Traveling to New Zealand? Find Waikato hotels

We had a two bedroomed chalet for a night. This was one of the best self-catering places we booked on our holiday in NZ. It was well equipped, provided tea/ coffee etc. in the kitchen, a washing machine etc. The layout of the chalet was good and its location excellent, set on the hillside overlooking the lake. Never used spa facilities, so cannot comment.I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Having thought about the stay at the Hilton Taupo, and considering it is supposed to be a 5-star hotel, really it was as expected. The room size was good and the staff were attentive - room service was efficient and the secure parking was a bonus. Actually, the staff were one of the best features of the hotel. But $10 for wi-fi for a day was unnecessary, from the room to the restaurant outside (and some rain) is bad design (I did not trust my car in the car park given the location), and while it is expected to be expensive, it did not represent value for money given other hotels I have stayed in recently.

We booked this venue for my family's recent trip to Taupo and it was the one of the best equipped accommodation from our trip. My wife personally felt that the venue is really thoughtful with the various items provided. The receptionist was courteous and helpful. Family also spent time at the spa bath - a good plus. It is a short drive away from the eateries and thus, we do appreciate the quiet surroundings and there is an English bar just down the road. Within a short walk, we are at Lake Taupo where we witnessed some lovely sunsets. It is also close to the jetty and also the supermarket, making this a wonderful stay for my family with young kids. highly recommended.

This is probably one of the best places to say in Taupō. The staff was extremely friendly; when she realised I had just come from water sports (actually went swimming in the hot springs pool park at the Hilton down the street) she gave me a bottle of milk to cool down. The facilities were very clean. In fact, it is cleaner than even some of the more expensive hotels that I’ve stayed at inmy life. It is in a great part of the city, close to all the attractions. It is definitely worth your money. I got the last room at the lowest price (that was available on the day I stayed: $79/night). I didn’t expect much, but when we got there, it definitely was worth more. The beds were extremely comfy, very clean, and the bathroom (my favourite part) had features I really appreciated such a towel warming rack, a space heater, and a spa tub (the bubble action continues!). Overall, it is definitely a winner in my book and the next time I find myself in Taupō, I will want to stay here again.

This is the best affordable hotel we stay for 16 days in New Zealand. It's locate in quiet area yet near to the town, lake and Huka Falls with breath taking view. The hotel is super clean, equip with coffee making facilities, iron, microwave, balcony and private car park. The bathroom is huge, clean and with modern design. Guest also get a complimentary internet access. I really recommend this resort for north Island visit/holiday.

this hotel was a great find for us and we had a fantastic stay here. the first thing that strikes you about caboose is it appearance, it looks a bit like a swedish wood sauna on the outside and has an africa theme on the inside. this was enough to make us curious and want to stay. the owner was very welcoming, chatty and helpful but the real surprise came at dinner time when we stayed in one night. they recently had a new chef and the food was excellent! this is one of the best meals i have had for quite a while and would recommend going there even if you are not staying in the hotel. the view from the restaurant looks right over lake taupo and the sunset on the other side of the lake was an added bonus.

Agoda messed up our booking by booking us but when we got there it was fully booked. Staff was nice enough to give us a 3 person room. Since we originally booked a private queen room, he blocked our dorm room so nobody else can join us. Gave us free drinks too! Heater is a bummer since it shuts itself down after 30mins. You have to manually turn it back on to keep warm during winter. A bit of improvement on cleaning maybe.. found a wrapper of chips on the bedside. No elevator to the 3rd floor. Only up to the 1st floor. Bar across the hostel has loud bands playing and can be heard from the room. Not a biggie though. Slept our way through. I'd stay here again. Location is the best. Restaurants and lake just behind the hostel.

I think that calling the Baycrest Lodge a 5 star hotel is going a bit far, but I did greatly enjoy our stay here. The room was very comfortable, and it had a good view. The WIFI speed was reasonable, and it was only a short drive to restaurants and Huka Falls. I did not try the spa or order the room service breakfast so I cannot comment on these things. I don't know why Agoda doesn't provide an N/A box.

I've read the reviews before booking this hotel... most of the recent ones are pretty bad. However since im on a budget, i just cross my fingers and went with it. Turned out its wasnt as bad as i thought it will be. The state of the place you can read previous reviews its all pretty much true. PROS :my room was clean. Bathroom is a decent size. Internet was good. CONS : no phone in the bedroom and electric kettle (but can ask for a jug of hot water from the restaurant). Not advisable to wander around the hotel alone at night... its pretty haunting imo. LoL

Being so cheap we thought we obviously get what we pay for, especially booking on the same day. But once we got there it was actually much better in person. The receptionist/owner guy was very friendly and easy to talk too. The best part of our stay was free wifi and allowing us to drink alcohol in our cabin. Overall our overnight stay was a breeze. No hassels or drama. Would highly recommend.

Staff were very welcoming and friendly. The on site cafe was perfect and the fish & chips were the best I had so far (seriously!). When we entered the cabin, we were all amazed at it! Rooms were a good size and had 2 bathrooms. Great lounge area with TV and heater. The kitchen was A-MAZ-ING!!! Fully equipped to the smallest detail! Had a coffee press, dishwasher, fridge looked new, and so much more! We also loved that it came with a BBQ on our deck. We bought steak just so we could use it haha! Of all the Top 10 Holiday Park I've been to, this is so far the best! Also love that they had their own mini grocery on site. Hot water beach was a nice 10 minute walk. Place is simply beautiful. Would definitely come back!

Is really beautiful, clean, everything is quality stuff. Their service is excellent, been liaising with Stuart before my stay with a few questions and requests. All were met and he was very patience and helpful even when we called him after past midnight. Out best stay in New Zealand. Totally worth the money. Highly recommended! Anyone visiting Whitianga you can consider to stay at this hotel. Love it!!!

Had flown back from Australia to celebrate our sons 1st birthday in taupo and had booked 4 rooms for all our close family members to stay in with us for the night & it was the absolute best. Staff were so amazing & so understanding as we couldnt check out on time due to food preparations taking abit longer than we thought but told us to take as much time as we needed at no extra charge. You dont get that often & would definitely be back aswell as all our family members we took. Thank you so much for the hospitality & hopefully be back again soon.

superb location, with great parking and rooms. Owners lovely and easy check in and out. very nice & welcome surprise to receive complimentary fresh ground coffee on arrival. clean rooms and safe. (nb: kitchen & 1 bedroom ceiling light not working in rm 15, but was fine for us. loved the space for sitting & sleeping 3. had THE BEST shower pressure ever too! thanks for having us, we'll be back..

The accommodation was perfect for our needs and immaculate by any standards. We received precise directions to a great restaurant and a grocery store for the few things we needed before retiring for a quiet night’s sleep. Most importantly, Michelle express shipped the black plastic envelope containing important reservations documentation and essential passports we inadvertently left in our room to our last accommodation before leaving New Zealand. This is the best customer service we have received anywhere in the world. Michelle is an absolute champion. She genuinely cares about her customers and will extend any effort to meet their needs. She is to be commended!

The room was spotless. Only downside is that we booked for four adults and one baby; not realizing it wasn't really appropriate for a party our size (although technically it could fit 4 adults, 2 of them would be sleeping on the sofa or single bed in the main living area). In the end we booked another room. Not ideal but we should have read the fine print / room description closer. The service from the woman at the front desk was so great - we needed to do laundry but the facility was being used so she did our laundry for us in her own house!! For that reason alone I would highly recommend this place.

It was the best stay I had during my 3 weeks in NZ. The unit is beautiful deco and very comfort, warm and cosy. Can't ask for more. The owner allowed me to check in earlier when I arrived Taupo at around 11 am, no fuss and thanks to his understanding (i even offer to come back later if the room is not ready, but he insist is OK). Great tips offer to do/eat around the beautiful Taupo. I regret that I didn't stay there for more...

A lovely old Hotel with well maintained grounds in the beautiful rolling countryside of the Waikato. We came for two nights in mid winter for the Springs. While the setting for the pools is magical beside a surging river, the temperature was warm but not hot enough to give satisfaction. No doubt better to be here in the summer if the pools are the purpose. Fortunately hotter pools are also to be found nearby in Matamata and Te Aroha. The golf course looked good, and we were upgraded to the Chalet room which had a large bed (two singles pushed together) which was very comfortable. Quiet location ensured a good night's sleep. The Restaurant provided Euro food with no stand out dishes.

I've stayed at this motel before and have returned several times, as it is great value for money. Very clean, very conveniently located: 2 min walk to Pak-N-Save (grocery store) and 5-7 min walk down the street to CBD/Casino. Very friendly and helpful hosts, but not intrusive, which sometimesisan issue in smallmotels in NZ towns. Rooms are nice size, with 2 beds and a good size writing desk with enough space to put a laptop AND papers/diary, which is important for me and not always the case in some motels. Bathrooms with separate toilets,all have spa baths and a shower. This motel actually gives you THREE large towels AND a face towel + washcloth. Ceiling fans in every rooms (great in summer time) and portable heaters in winter. Large flat screen TV. Tea/coffee/electric kettle in every room, also a small fridge and dishes. This place provides you with a knife and a larger plate,which is great, as I do enjoy my cheese platter and a glass of wine in the evening and so many motels neglect to supply the knife. Plenty of parking inside the motel parking lot. Very quiet at night-important to me,as I do need my night's sleep. There is indoor pool on the premises, which is heated, so could be used both in summer and winter. Rooms are a bit dated, but that's 95% of motels in NZ, to me more importantis the fact that it's clean. This motel CONSISTENTLY provides great value for money and does not gauge during the holiday/high season. I recommend the place

Having married at the hotel 3 years previously, we were looking forward to staying there again. Unfortunately, the prevailing wind decided to blast its way across the lake for 24 hours. Our night's sleep was ruined by the constant crack and slap of a permanently fixed canvas sunshade located over the outside balcony of our room. For a 4 star hotel, we were amazed that such a cheap form of sun shading had been installed. It ruined our romantic weekend away.
