Waikato hotels & accommodations

We had a two bedroomed chalet for a night. This was one of the best self-catering places we booked on our holiday in NZ. It was well equipped, provided tea/ coffee etc. in the kitchen, a washing machine etc. The layout of the chalet was good and its location excellent, set on the hillside overlooking the lake. Never used spa facilities, so cannot comment.I would defin...

Having thought about the stay at the Hilton Taupo, and considering it is supposed to be a 5-star hotel, really it was as expected. The room size was good and the staff were attentive - room service was efficient and the secure parking was a bonus. Actually, the staff were one of the best features of the hotel. But $10 for wi-fi for a day was unnecessary, from the r...

We booked this venue for my family's recent trip to Taupo and it was the one of the best equipped accommodation from our trip. My wife personally felt that the venue is really thoughtful with the various items provided. The receptionist was courteous and helpful. Family also spent time at the spa bath - a good plus. It is a short drive away from the eateries and th...

This is probably one of the best places to say in Taupō. The staff was extremely friendly; when she realised I had just come from water sports (actually went swimming in the hot springs pool park at the Hilton down the street) she gave me a bottle of milk to cool down. The facilities were very clean. In fact, it is cleaner than even some of the more expensive hotels t...

This is the best affordable hotel we stay for 16 days in New Zealand. It's locate in quiet area yet near to the town, lake and Huka Falls with breath taking view. The hotel is super clean, equip with coffee making facilities, iron, microwave, balcony and private car park. The bathroom is huge, clean and with modern design. Guest also get a complimentary internet acce...

The room was clean and adequate for a one night stay. Breakfast was a help yourself affair in the lobby. The best part about our stay were the staff. Everyone we encountered including cleaning staff were very friendly and helpful. There was a nice atmosphere. The property was in a good location, it was very near to the bars and restaurants.

this hotel was a great find for us and we had a fantastic stay here. the first thing that strikes you about caboose is it appearance, it looks a bit like a swedish wood sauna on the outside and has an africa theme on the inside. this was enough to make us curious and want to stay. the owner was very welcoming, chatty and helpful but the real surprise came at dinn...

Agoda messed up our booking by booking us but when we got there it was fully booked. Staff was nice enough to give us a 3 person room. Since we originally booked a private queen room, he blocked our dorm room so nobody else can join us. Gave us free drinks too! Heater is a bummer since it shuts itself down after 30mins. You have to manually turn it back on to keep war...

I think that calling the Baycrest Lodge a 5 star hotel is going a bit far, but I did greatly enjoy our stay here. The room was very comfortable, and it had a good view. The WIFI speed was reasonable, and it was only a short drive to restaurants and Huka Falls. I did not try the spa or order the room service breakfast so I cannot comment on these things. I don't know w...

I've read the reviews before booking this hotel... most of the recent ones are pretty bad. However since im on a budget, i just cross my fingers and went with it. Turned out its wasnt as bad as i thought it will be. The state of the place you can read previous reviews its all pretty much true. PROS :my room was clean. Bathroom is a decent size. Internet was good. CO...

Being so cheap we thought we obviously get what we pay for, especially booking on the same day. But once we got there it was actually much better in person. The receptionist/owner guy was very friendly and easy to talk too. The best part of our stay was free wifi and allowing us to drink alcohol in our cabin. Overall our overnight stay was a breeze. No hassels or dram...

Staff were very welcoming and friendly. The on site cafe was perfect and the fish & chips were the best I had so far (seriously!). When we entered the cabin, we were all amazed at it! Rooms were a good size and had 2 bathrooms. Great lounge area with TV and heater. The kitchen was A-MAZ-ING!!! Fully equipped to the smallest detail! Had a coffee press, dishwasher, fridg...

Is really beautiful, clean, everything is quality stuff. Their service is excellent, been liaising with Stuart before my stay with a few questions and requests. All were met and he was very patience and helpful even when we called him after past midnight. Out best stay in New Zealand. Totally worth the money. Highly recommended! Anyone visiting Whitianga you can consid...

I was very fortunate to find a centrally located room on the weekend of the v8 Supercars, so grateful to them and found it to be ideal location for a guest who only needs a high quality single room that was comfortable, good amenities and air conditioning. Would recommend for visitors to Waikato, who travel by hire car or public transport

Had flown back from Australia to celebrate our sons 1st birthday in taupo and had booked 4 rooms for all our close family members to stay in with us for the night & it was the absolute best. Staff were so amazing & so understanding as we couldnt check out on time due to food preparations taking abit longer than we thought but told us to take as much time as we needed a...

superb location, with great parking and rooms. Owners lovely and easy check in and out. very nice & welcome surprise to receive complimentary fresh ground coffee on arrival. clean rooms and safe. (nb: kitchen & 1 bedroom ceiling light not working in rm 15, but was fine for us. loved the space for sitting & sleeping 3. had THE BEST shower pressure ever too! thanks for ...

The accommodation was perfect for our needs and immaculate by any standards. We received precise directions to a great restaurant and a grocery store for the few things we needed before retiring for a quiet night’s sleep. Most importantly, Michelle express shipped the black plastic envelope containing important reservations documentation and essential passports we inad...

The room was spotless. Only downside is that we booked for four adults and one baby; not realizing it wasn't really appropriate for a party our size (although technically it could fit 4 adults, 2 of them would be sleeping on the sofa or single bed in the main living area). In the end we booked another room. Not ideal but we should have read the fine print / room des...

We had a fantastic trip to Lake Taupo. Great little hotel, high quality facilities and very comfortable beds. Walking distance to bars and restaurants but a decent kitchen you could make breakfast if you wanted to. We highly recommend this hotel and Taupo, much nicer than Rotorua town, great holiday feel.

I have travelled quite a bit around the world & would like to state that this hotel rates first class in my books. The rooms are newly renovated modern and has everything you need. The service is A1 all staff are very professional & helpful. The location is handy to everything including the casino

The place has a nice view and very clean. The location is great, few minutes walk to the lake and few minutes drive to the city center where the restaurants are located. Very peaceful neighborhood. Wonderful room, spotless clean and nice view. The staff is nice and friendly too. With ample parking. I highly recommend this hotel!

It was the best stay I had during my 3 weeks in NZ. The unit is beautiful deco and very comfort, warm and cosy. Can't ask for more. The owner allowed me to check in earlier when I arrived Taupo at around 11 am, no fuss and thanks to his understanding (i even offer to come back later if the room is not ready, but he insist is OK). Great tips offer to do/eat around the b...

A lovely old Hotel with well maintained grounds in the beautiful rolling countryside of the Waikato. We came for two nights in mid winter for the Springs. While the setting for the pools is magical beside a surging river, the temperature was warm but not hot enough to give satisfaction. No doubt better to be here in the summer if the pools are the purpose. Fortunately ...

I've stayed at this motel before and have returned several times, as it is great value for money. Very clean, very conveniently located: 2 min walk to Pak-N-Save (grocery store) and 5-7 min walk down the street to CBD/Casino. Very friendly and helpful hosts, but not intrusive, which sometimesisan issue in smallmotels in NZ towns. Rooms are nice size, with 2 beds and...

Having married at the hotel 3 years previously, we were looking forward to staying there again. Unfortunately, the prevailing wind decided to blast its way across the lake for 24 hours. Our night's sleep was ruined by the constant crack and slap of a permanently fixed canvas sunshade located over the outside balcony of our room. For a 4 star hotel, we were amazed that ...
Cheap places to stay in Waikato

I've been travelling thru nz and this hostel is the best! (no "one of") I stay here everytime when I'm back to Taupo! Everything is perfect and the beds are definitely the most comfortable among all the nz hostels! Love the cute hostel dog! Friendly staff, clean kitchen and big but cozy common area! Small tips: the merch of the hostel are AWESOME!

we stayed here for 3 nights in economic double which was smaller than I expected. the best thing about this place is the kitchen. the kitchen here is the best backpackers' kitchen I have ever visited. very clean and well equipped. I should say it was more than enough. I witnessed that the staff was cleaning kitchen and toilet several times a day. the location was ok...

in a good location, kitchen is well stocked, helpful staff. Nice comen area nice view of lake, sister hostel good for bar good price drinks just around corner but much louder, meal deal not the best best to just use the kitchen has oven so can make a pizza..

This place is unique. It’s hard not to like it. Has a community feel, chilled out and good organisers who will help you out with any tongariro planning you might need! Also had a really cute tiny kitten which despite being allergic to cats I quite enjoyed! So yeah if you’re allergic to cats maybe this place isn’t for you, I had some fairly big hives! Good basic, homely...

In the picture the hostel SEEMS not ok but if u see it in person its totatlly GREAT being it the CHEAPEST its also great because its clean yes its small but they have a very big common area which i think is one of the most important for travelers like me so you can socialize with other people the owner is a FILIPINA so u can expect the kindest treatment "FILIPINO HOSPI...

We made a last minute booking and stumbled on a little gem. It was way better than I expected. It had lovely bed linen, a fully equipped kitchen, big spacious lounge with roaring log fire. Our spacious room had a great heater as well as a private tv microwave fridge kettle and toaster. The host was friendly and helpful. She gave us a very useful map that encoura...

When driving into Whitianga, you can't miss this hostel, it's like a rainbow landed on the earth. :) The dorm rooms are spacious and my favorite thing about them was the large window areas where you could sit, read a book and look out at the ocean just across the road. The kitchen is tidy and occasionally the local cat will come to beg food from you or just to curl up ...

I booked the double room for 1 night. My only regret was that I didn't stay longer. The Lodge is in a quiet location and the grounds are well kept. It was rainy and cold during my time there, but it seemed like the many outdoor spaces would make it a great place to stay and relax during the spring/summer. My room was well decorated, very comfortable, and very clean. Th...

Tatahi backpackers was amazing. So far it is the best hostel I’ve stayed in in New Zealand. I ended up having a whole room to myself and it was great. The staff was wonderful. The live in staff was great as well. I didn’t know these people but it felt like being a part of a little family. The bathrooms were so clean that I almost took a shower with no flip flops. This ...

Stephanie is very lovely lady who warmly welcomed us with her positive energy. She was so kind to offer us to choose the room we booked or a larger one which was still available without additional charge. And our son, chose the bigger one 😁. Luna, her dog was also friendly. The kitchen was clean with all utensils you need to cook. The living room was big and warm wit...

Attentive staff swapped our booking from large leisure lodge to motel cabin because we didn't have a dog so didn't need the 'dog friendly' environment. Loved the compact motel cabin. Room got warm during day cos no aircon. Cooled down in evening. Staff were friendly and not intrusive but helpful and efficient with room supplies and towels. Will come again in March...

Very central to many towns. Perfect for families and very quiet, even peak season.Pretty basic, but perfectly adequate . Te Aroha township very interesting and great restaurants and cool country pub. Township also good for families. Would definitely go again for a quiet break

It was my fault for not checking my booking online, but they charged me more than what was agreed through Agoda... I noticed several days later so decided not to dispute since the hospitality was great and the facilities clean and kempt with a great kitchen space.

I stayed in a single bedroom with a shared bathroom, it is a small bedroom, can only fit in a bed and my two suitcases, but it's really cheap, I think it is the cheapest hostel in Hamilton, so what more could you ask for? Besides, you only have to share your bathroom with another bedroom, not with all bedrooms. There is a small public space that is shared with two sing...

July 2019 we stayed for 1 night in a private double with shared bathroom. The backpackers is nice an brightly painted on the outside, and the reception staff are really helpful. However our room in comparison to other backpackers we have stayed was really quite small, and we were only provided with 1 towel (in a double booked for 2 people), and were asked to hire ano...

This cozy spot was just what we needed. It's not hostel style, we got our own cozy cabin for the three of us. Double bed with single bunk, table chair and TV. Kitchen and bathroom facilities were clean. As a huge bonus they offered FREE wifi! Hosts are very kind and hospitable.

We stayed in one of the motel rooms and it was one of the best decisions we made in our entire trip. The room was absolutely lovely, and incredibly spacious. The hot pools were wonderfully relaxing, particularly at night. The holiday park is located outside of the town, and I'm not sure how it would be accessed by public transport. This location is due to the location ...

This Hotel may not be 4 star but makes up for it in all other respects, the place is old style Art Nouveau outside and inside but this gives the Hotel its charector. The rooms were big and the beds clean and spotlessly clean, good size showers. Staff were friendly and helpful, this included the cleaner who made us feel like she was really interested in what we talked a...

The Nunnery is not actually a hotel. It is a delightful well furnished former nunnery with a very pleasant atmosphere in beautiful spacious surroundings. There are all the usual cooking facilities but we chose to sample Te Aroha's interesting cafes and restaurants for breakfast lunch and dinner. Plenty of advice available as to the best venues. Our bedroom was spacious...

Our room is a twin bedroom. Looks like bedroom of the owner’s kids. The toilet and shower are just in front of the room. There’s free water inside the room. We had rented car and we parked it in front of the house. Wifi is also available inside our room. Nice neighborhood.. Location: quite far from the town center. You need a car to go around.

We had such a great stay in Poplar Creek B&B. Aside from the welcoming ambience, Julz and her kids greeted us and asked for anything we need. Julz also responded so quickly on some of my urgent concerns/requests. Speaking of the suite, it has a homey feeling. They provide breakfast supplies.😊😊 Cozy beds and blankets, with toys for my son to keeps him busy. After a ...

We enjoyed out stayed at the Chalets very much. It is a wooden house hence there was nice cozy feeling staying here. My six year old daughter felt in love the place the moment she step into the chalet and said to the host 'this is best home in this whole wife world'. Unfortunately we only stayed for one night. However we were greeted with tea and milk and a complementa...

We enjoyed our night at the Aspen because it was so convenient. With Hamilton East just down the road there was a range of food options within easy walking distance. The unit was spacious with comfortable chairs to relax on. The complimentary tea making facilities were appreciated. Everything available to make our stop over pleasant.

Nice, new Motel near the University and only a few minutes by car to the Downtown area or Hamilton gardens. Lovely large rooms with good sized ensuite. Excellent kitchen favilities in room with both a microwave and a hotplate. The bed was very comfortable and we were nice and warm with the heat pump. Although there were no SKY digital channels, this has to be the b...

We booked a two bedroom apartment - but there was no stove - everywhere throughout New Zealand where we booked two bedroom apartments there were stoves - but not here. The receptionist said they expected us to eat meals at the hotel, but who wants to do this all the time? we like relaxing for breakfast in our apartment - they did end up providing us with a hot plat...

Great location with welcoming owners/staff. The executive unit was beautifully appointed, spacious and with lovely decor. The bathroom was luxurious with a nice selection of toiletries. The whole unit was immaculately clean and spotless. Loved our stay there! Highly recommend!

We didn't interact much with the owners as we only stayed 1 night but they were very friendly. We stayed in a triple studio and it's huge and modern. Both beds are super comfy and everything else you need is in there. The kitchen includes all the equipment, just BYO food. You can wash your clothes for free at the communal laundry (BYO soap or buy it there). There's a f...

We loved our stay here the place is beautiful, just far enough out of town along the coast but close enough to go in for a nice dinner. Sort of the gateway to the coromandel. Only problem I had was when I booked I booked a Chalet the a frame one that was advertised on the site, upon emailing and confirming as it was an anniversary stay, the lady at the front desk had s...

the bathroom has a bathtub, this is so comfortable (there's also shower) but there is only one bathroom. Staff was friendly as well as dog and cat. I had best view of morning scene around this hotel. Location was not far from Waitomo glowworm cave.

This was my favorite of the six hotels I stayed in during my weeklong travels around New Zealand. I LOVED this hotel. Great customer service, making sure guests have everything they need to enjoy their time in Hahei and the Hot Water Beach. I opted to go to the Hot Water Beach immediately after checking out and the hotel let me use the spade and beach towel if I return...

Great little B&B located about 1km from Whitianga centre and 150m from beach. Everything is spotlessly clean and the well setup. The room has a nice en-suite bathroom and built in wardrobe. There is a communal area for B&B guests with lounge with skyTV and small book swap library, dining area and kitchenette. Tea, coffee, biscuits, bread, milk, juice etc are all provi...

I stayed 3 nights at Bella Vista Motel during my stay at Taupo. I reached to the hotel very late and the front desk was already closed. However, I was pretty happy with how they leave the note for me. The put the note at front desk door with my name and studio unit number. They even remembered to leave the wifi password. The unit is pretty spacious, lovely and cozy. The...

new establishment, spotlessly clean everything, spacious well designed modern comfortable room and shower with attention to every detail even correctly placed TV set (no straggle with pillow adjustment for watching in bed), fully equipped kitchenette, friendly, helpful staff, makes you feel a guest invited to their home, nice extra: freshly ground coffee (for self brew...

Located steps away from Lake Taupo, Le Chalet is a cute, welcoming and well presented property with a bunch of apartments. We have stayed here twice and on both occasions booked a 1 bedroom apartment for myself, my partner and our cub. After a long day of travel it is so delightful being able to step into this spacious, modern two level apartment with everything and a...

The room was clean, fashionable, large and had a great view. The description of facilities was inaccurate however and this hotel is not part of the dunes gold resort and restaurant. The hotel is completely separate from the resort and the only restuarant within walking distance of the room is closed most days. When it is open, it is only open for two hours at a time w...

Our first priority for stay was a tranquil location with great views. The Harbour view motel did not disappoint! The rooms were spacious and clean. The bedding was soft and very comfortable! The best point however was the rustic looking wooden porch - which was perfect for just lazing around and soaking in the splendid view of the harbor, surrounded by well tende...

This place is amazing! Couples, Families or even solo! You need a car tho! getting to hot water beach or cathedral cove wasnt hard, all convenient :) It's such a beautiful place to stay, great restaurant too, it's a beautiful place, great cosy bed, lovely porch to relax, green surroundings and everything you need to make your stay perfectly romantic! :)

Late check in and early check out ruined our holiday. Arrived mid day and had to wait until 3pm with young kids until our room was ready. There was NO mention of a 3pm check in on any of the emails we received. Very disappointing. But besides that the Staff we friendly, place was clean and great facilities for the whole family.

We stayed for only one night but it was a little piece of paradise. We had a room with our own little terrasse overlooking the amazing lake view. The room was very comfortable. Everything perfectly clean. We had diner there in the dining room which was lovely. Ann was cooking and Ed serving and they were charming. Breakfast in the morning was first class. Highly recomm...

Brilliant. We were upgraded from what looked like a lovely suite to the house which was brilliant. I would certainly recommend the house for a family. David and Debbie were also very helpful. The place was within easy reach of the shops and restaurants.

This house is located in a quiet residential area. It is very comfortable, spacious and meeting the highest standards, being built only a few years ago. Breakfast (hot and cold) was prepared individually and served by the lovely hosts in the first floor. From there, you have a wonderful panoramic view over the lake. The bedroom was on the ground floor and had access to...

It was my fault for not checking my booking online, but they charged me more than what was agreed through Agoda... I noticed several days later so decided not to dispute since the hospitality was great and the facilities clean and kempt with a great kitchen space.

We stayed here 3 nights and had an excellent stay. We were greeted by Sharon and Eric who were house sitting for Robert and Gail and they were wonderful hosts and took care of us very well. The room and bathroom were of good size and with all the amenities. The highlight of our trip was the outdoor spa bath under the stars which is must do. Wonderful home stay with goo...

We stayed here for one night on Saturday after a long days drive. I was met by our host, Robyn, and found her very welcoming. We stayed in the 'Stall'. Everything we needed was available. It was very quiet at night and we had an excellent nights rest. Breakfast was served at eight as requested. Lemon curd was " to die for" . We would most certainly recommend this prope...

Where to start ... the perfect welcome from Giorgio; the beautiful and fully equipped apartment with its private terrace; to the stunning view across Mercury Bay. Giorgio introduced us to the area, made recommendations for the best beaches to visit and even booked Christmas dinner for us. Actually, we could just as easily just have sat looking at that view the whole ...

This lodge is outstanding, and it’s all thank to Jason for the great hospitality and friendliness. It is the best in NZ. 5 of us stayed there a week ago and loved it. Plenty of fruit, egg and cooking stuff, breakfast is included. It is super clean and both linen and towels have superb quality. Don’t go any further, book it here and enjoy it. We will stay again.

My husband and I recently stayed at Driving Creek Villas for the last 2 nights of a 2 week holiday in the North Island. The owner David was away so we were welcomed by his friend and neighbour Pete who was friendly and helpful. We stayed in Tokatea Villa which sits beautifully in the landscape. From the carpark right next to the entrance to the walled (tree fern trunks...

I have stayed at many 5 star hotels and I was surprised to find this boutique bed and breakfast took the cake. Set amongst beautiful surrounds, our room had a breathtaking view which created a beautiful romantic setting for my fiancé and I. Even though it was small, it felt very private like we were the only people there. The staff made our stay very comfortable and...

Could not have enjoyed our stay here more. Angie and Garth were incredibly friendly and welcoming and went out of their way for us. The food was absolutely delicious and the rooms were beautiful. One of the best places I've stayed! Wonderful! Would absolutely recommend!

My husband and I spend two days there we didn't have to plan too much but hang around in the fields and had a picnic. It was wonderful. If the weather had been warmer we would have set the tent to watch the stars. The farmers were very friendly and welcoming, Beautiful chat over a tasty dinner together at night. Highly recommend I want to go back with my kids ...

Great place to stay for waitomo area & caves. Lovely family owners & fabulous hosts. Bed was huge & very comfortable indeed, ensuite was generous & all our needs were catered for. Breakfast choices were numerous. Hot tub & pool included too. Ideal place to stay.
