Yunnan Province hotels & places to stay

Just okay. Our room had a air conditioning problem and we slept in lukewarm conditions, not very comfortable especially with thick comforters. The bathtub also had a problem draining, at least the help came quickly. But all he did was pull out the stopper and told us curtly not to put it back in, leaving a gaping drainage hole. The room furnishings were quite worn as well and some of the bedside table light switches weren't functioning. Despite these issues, we found that we missed Jinjiang hotel once we traveled further on to Lijiang and Shangri-La. A word of advice, do not trust the star ratings on hotels in Yunnan or be prepared for disappointment.

5-star treatment at 4-star price. Staff was excellent and extra cost for breakfast buffet on the 28th floor was well worth the price. Centrally located next to upscale shopping mall, pedestrian area with large selection of shopping and dining choices and an informative, well-laid-out Yunnan Museum. Short taxi ride to park to the north and the Yunnan Minorities Village -- both worth the effort to visit.

This is by far the best accommodation we've stayed at, in our 9 days Yunnan trip. We've had to climb a short flight of stairs to reach the hotel but it was well-worth the effort (the owner came to the main road to greet us and helped us carry some of our luggages). The place was well-maintained, clean and comfortable. We were given a map and directions on how to tour the old town without even having to ask for it. Breakfast served was simple and nice. Will definitely stay here again if we're in town.

This hotel was hard to find...the taxi driver dropped us off at the Plateau Pearl Group and when we tried to check in, we were told that was not a hotel. The girl there was very nice and called us an uber using her phone. We paid her cash and she made sure to tell the driver to take us to the hotel. Apparently this happens all the time as there are other businesses with similar names in proximity including a large mall. The hotel was not close by the airport as expected, about 40 minutes away. Lots of food vendor close by. Room were adequate. Hotel staff was very nice and helpful, but I was disappointed when I was told that they could not make taxi reservation for me. I arranged my own transportation to airport using an application called China Taxi. This was my first time in China and learned a lot as to what to expect and not to expect. I didn't like the location of this hotel and would not stay there again.

This hotel is located on a hill right behind songtsam monastery. It's facing a grassland with herds of Tibetan yaks, and beyond that, it's the grand monastery. Rooms are expensive for Yunnan standard, but the view and the services make it worth every cent. Geusts are basically bounded to have meals in the hotel but the food is good and reasonably priced. Tips: there are complimentary activities, such as meditation, guided tour of the monastery etc., provided by the hotel every day. Do consider those when you plan your daily activities. There is a spa: staff are very genuine and warm, but not very well trained on techniques.

The manager spoke excellent English. She was one of the nicest people we met on our trip, Nothing was too much trouble. Our room was fantastic and the service was extremely friendly. We felt at home. One word of caution. The hotel can be a little hard to find. Keep your booking sheet and ask locals. They all know this place. Fantastic! And they have beer in the fridge! Have cash. This is a small family hotel and credit cards aren't accepted. There are many ATNs in the town.

In Southwestern China, it's best to come with no expectations. Nowhere is geared towards international tourism and that was part of the charm. The reception staff could communicate in English, but that was about it, and more than can be said for much of the rest of the city. The hotel itself probably gets a lot of domestic families and tour groups, and it's also a popular local wedding venue. My room was large and quiet and the air conditioning was seldom turned on by the hotel, but if you simply open a window, nature takes care of it. I could use a little more western variety at the breakfast buffet, but when in China, one should attempt to eat like the Chinese! Especially as I think there were no other western tourists at this hotel anyway.

We traveled from Lijiang to Kunming via overnight train. The train arrived at 6am and we arrive at the hotel at 7am. Surprisingly, the hotel allowed us to check-in and we could take a rest before experiencing Kunming. It was very nice. Without that early check-in, we couldn't take a rest and would not have enjoyed Kunming so much. The hotel was conveniently located at the downtown and was only 5-10min walk from the busiest district of Kunming. Nice location. The hotel room was clean and price was reasonable, though that price would actually be high with the price standard at Kunming. But that hotel was fairly high-class and convenient in Kunming nevertheless. When we checked-in in that morning, we were given two piece of apples as gift. Warm reception. We thought there were no breakfast as indicated at Agoda but when we checked-in, we were given breakfast coupon as well. Surprise Would surely consider that hotel again.

My wife and i enjoyed our stay at the Econmic Tade Hotel. Right from the moment we entered we felt comfortable. The receptionists were friendly and even if they were not sure with English, they always called for someone who did. Which we greatly appreciated, as most questions were speedily answered. Once in our room we were very pleased with the overall quality. Maybe a little dated but it was full of freebies and helpful information. The bed size was on the large and there were any amount of toiletries in the bathroom, even a set of weighing scales. We ate at the hotel as well & the food was excellent with massive portion sizes. Although, i had to go downstairs and buy a bottle of coke from the shop, because the restaurant had none. Not the end of the world by any means. All in all, our stay was very successful, so much so that we booked to stay again a week later.

Aside from the fact that I found Lijiang to be one of the nicest places in China, this “inn” I would consider worthy of calling a “4-star” hotel. It was tasteful, comfortable, and impeccably clean. It’s relatively easy to find, about a 7-8 minute walk to the South Gate of the Old City; safe because it’s right next to a major artery commercial street, but also not exactly in the busiest center of town (that’s say, another 7-8 min walk further north). I absolutely intend to stay there again if/when I return to this town, although I can’t tell you which room # was the best situated, haha. Lastly, the inn manager “Little Fat” (小胖) was a delightful, friendly, and helpful host. The owner is lucky to have this young man communicate with and treat the guests as well as he does. I would believe it if this place is owned by his family (who knows). He’s always smiley and happy. Which water has he been drinking? 😉☺️ I don’t usually bother writing reviews to be honest, but this place deserves it.

I spent weekend in Dali with few colleagues. We booked 2 rooms. Hotel ambience is perfect, homey with nice mini garden and tea table. Room is clean and complete. Location is strategic: 5 min walk to Dali Ancient Town West Gate and close to Mountain. Easy to find food, water, etc nearby. The best of all is the hospitality from the owner and hotel manager. They let us check in earlier because we took morning train to Dali. They provided us with free breakfast on that day. They served us with nice tea with ceremony. They helped us book cable car, taxi, etc. I can say that this is the best hotel that I experienced so far. Very value for money.

Environment good cost-effective location is very convenient, the boss is also very enthusiastic, to arrange the pick up, driver teacher also special enthusiasm of lijiang is introduced, introduced the, every place have probably understanding travel is a good arrangement! You can also have tea and chat with your boss, naxi. It was in the old town, and it was quite close. There is a sparerib in the side of the food, which is also very special. It is convenient for you to go anywhere. The five-star recommendation is that lijiang must live in the ancient city, and li jiayuan is in the heart of the inn! Also sent a map, to explain! Come and stay here!

When we arrived we were told that we don't sleep in the new and main building, but in the old one across the street which we could not see from the main building. This is what we booked they said. It was quite late in the night and we didn't want to walk to the other building. We piad additional 200 RMB to stay in the main building. The rooms were ok. The breakfast very Chinese and thd breakfast hall very cold. Staff was ok but not great hospitality.

This place is $27. For that money, it's worth getting a hot shower, and a good rest. I had 12 hour layover in Kunming, and I really wanted to get a good shower and place that I can lay before another 12 hour flight. I was a little skeptical after reading all the reviews, but hey I'm glad I give it a shot. When I arrived at Kunming Airport, I went to the information centre, and I gave the guy the hotel's info and their phone number. He called them for me, and a guy from the hotel came to pick me up in 20 minutes. They paid for the toll fee, and it was absolutely free. They also offered airport drop off for free. It's not a super nice bus, so don't expect fancy bus. The hotel's also not 5 star hotel, but it has hot shower, a decent bed, and a clean toilet (no smell)- you will appreciate this after using toilet at the airport! MAKE SURE YOU SCREENSHOT ALL THE INFO! - your connecting flight info & the hotel's address and phone number, cuz wifi doesn't work at the airport.

We are happy with our stay in this clean and neat hotel. The best thing is their restaurant provides Cantonese food of fairly good standard, which we missed dearly after travelling for 10 days in Yunnan, as most of Yunnan food are oily, chilly hot and not suitable for us. The restaurant is very good and they have a no. of private rooms (if you want non-smoking) and staff are also very attentive & courteous. For breakfast, a lady cook, Ms Bai even bothered to heat up the soya milk each time when requested. The room is good except for a little dim at the wash area. Room attendants are also very helpful. The hotel is conveniently located as it is walking distance to the Bar area and also near to city center (Jin Ma Pi Chi).

Booked the Bivou based on your high rating and their very well designed web site. Bivou turned out to be everything it claimed and more.The moment we booked the hotel, Bivou immediately sent a very detailed and useful list of information of what to expect or bring for our maiden trip to Lijiang. Thereafter, their responses to our queries were prompt and friendly. When we actually arrived at the hotel main lounge, it felt like we stepped into a friend's home rather a hotel reception. Check in was done while being served tea and cakes without the usual dry and protracted form filling. In truth, the public areas like the gardens, patios and dining area are nicer than the room itself, but they have made sure the rooms are well equipped with all your need. However is the little things like the hand drawn maps, handmade lip balms and warm and friendlystaff that made Bivou such an amazing place. A special thanks to Hui Ling and her amazing team for a wonderful stay. Great job, ladies.

Highly recommended. Certainly one of the best hotel experience I've had. This boutique hotel in the Lijiang Ancient Town (Gu Cheng) has everything u would need, Air-con with functioning heater, Good audio system, DVD, Wi-fi, and computer in the rooms! This hotel was formally an Art House! While keeping the historical design and feel, they renovated the bathroom with luxurious modern fittings! The hotel staffs were excellent, very friendly and helpful. They assisted us in all the things that we need, providing maps, recommending the places the go, things to take note of, and arranging for all our tours and transports! They could even arrange home cook dinner for you at the hotel. The only thing is to book your room/s early as there are only 9 rooms in this hotels and try to get those rooms in the 2nd level as there are less privacy and may be quite noisy for those rooms on the ground level.

This was a really nice stay, one of the best I have had in China on this trip (stayed in 11 hotels). The staff are extraordinarily nice and really look after you to the point that they come and look for you when you are lost! Andy was a really helpful guy, carried my suitcase from the wrong hotel to the correct one and booked tours for me by walking a kilometre to the tour agency. He also walked with me a long way to show me another ATM when the one in the ancient city ran out of cash. Iwa was also very helpful. She helped me plan and book a day trip to Balagezong which I had not even heard of and was truly breathtaking (pun intended - it was at 5000 metres altitude). In the evening she helped me with jewellery shopping and stayed with me showing a lot of patience when the credit card machines wouldn't work. She was also very helpful in offerring a very late checkout because my flight was late in the evening. The lobby of the hotel is very impressive and tastefully decorated. The room was huge and very nicely furnished. A very good quality hotel - I cant sing its praises enough. It is situated in Ancient city next to Tea Horse museum. Petrol vehicles are not allowed in Ancient city so you have to take a taxi to South Gate (Naan men) and call the hotel, they will come and pick you up in an e-trike. Best to call the hotel a night before and confirm arrangements for pick up or book a transfer. Food was not served in the branch I was in (there are 3) and it was a short walk to branch 2 for breakfast which was by far the best I have had in China.

Located in the heart of Lijiang Old Town which is very convenience to explore the city. The atmosphere of the hotel is very nice , quiet and beautiful with the ancient Chinese Style decoration. Facility in the room is in the good condition and make me stay comfortable. The area of improvement : If the breakfast time could start earlier than 8.30 PM then it will be good for guests who plan to leave hotel early for the day trip.

Songtsam Meili is one of the beet hotels we've ever stayed in Aisa. It's located in a valley surrounded by clouds, 4-5 Tibetan families and farmland. We coiled see the grand Meili snow mountain from the rooftop and our room. We haven't seen so many stars at night for a very long time. The services were fantastic: the staff were genuine and caring. They even cleaned our shoes after our trekking trip. The food was ample and delicious. We can't say enough good things about this hotel. If given a chance, we will stay in other hotels under Songtsam group in Yunnan province.

We have received two ground floor rooms that were beautiful but a little bit noisy (on the way to restaurant) I appreciate a lot everything in the restaurant : up to the music at breakfast. The Minus points are the prices of side services : Touristic organization, bicycles, it is only for people not aware of the common price outside the hotel. But maybe the quality is very (very very) good. We didn't tried them. I truly recommend this hotel to senior people (more than 35) and not to backpackers and their smaller budget. I recommend it for honey moon as well. Do not hesitate to contact me for your own question The food is very good. But it is not the best we have found in Yunnan at all. And it is too much expensive for what is it. But is it safe and tasty. many worse places serve better food. It is a good restaurant.

Due to the closure of their Springland branch for renovation, they have upgraded us to their Skyland branch. It was located up the Lion Hills, apart from the climbing, however there are eco tram which you could ride on. Prior to our arrival, as we are staying at their inn at Shangarila, they contacted us about the upgrade and also give us clear instruction and getting there and the pick up. Truly, the experience was great! From the receptionist to the room cleaning aunty and the coffee house assistant, they have upkeep their best service level, making our stay very comfortable and well satisfy. The environment was magnificient great. You could see that the owner take in great effort in the decoration to provide te best experience. Free free to ask them for any assiatnce and information about day trip etc, they will be most glad to assist you. You could see the sincerity and friendliness in them. The warmth they have extended during the stay had given us much confidence to look for the in the future and not to mention to give them great credit. Well, we stayed at their inn at both at Lijiang & Shangarila, and it was definitely the better choice. Bottomline... surperb service, nice home cooked breakfast and warm environment.
