Bit of Bali in Mie”
Arrived by boat in rainstorm to discover hotel had no electricity…but with candles and Balinese gamelan tinkling in background quite romantic. Staff handled difficult situation well although blackout meant had to wait until evening for hot onsen in lovely outdoor bath. Dinner was very good with fresh sashimi. Rooms are fine…porch bath is an option…views over sea toward mainland are nice. Be sure to walk around the tiny town and Pearl Beach where views are more spectacular and sweeping. Staff is well trained and welcoming. Out the backdoor see the buoy art installations!! and there is a ryokan that accepts pets. There are are some abandoned hotels on the island that suggest halcyon days past. The resort aims for a Balinese vibe…it is a romantic setting…and the baths make up for the rather standard hotel layout…its one of three large boxy hotels on waterfront. Alluring detour…but closer to good than superb.
