Find Resorts in Con Dao Islands, Vietnam

Religion aside, the island offers beautiful beaches and islands where you can go scuba diving and outdoor activities. If you are here to relax, choose a resort (Six Senses, Sai Gon Con Dao, Con Dao resort or ATC) to maximize the pleasure of your stay. Otherwise, a small hotel would be more affordable.

Great beach near the airport to spend the day with couple local restaurants. Rainbow dive provided an excellent service...two awesome dives included seeing a sting ray, moray eel, various coral and fish species. Black squirrels and monkeys in SoRay rainforest....pay a small fee to national park....and explore the beach.

The prisons were converted into a tourist attraction after installation of communist rule in the South of Vietnam in 1975.

The diving has nice corals but beware that if you have a medical emergency while on the island you must have $5000 US in cash before a helicopter will come to evacuate you- even if you are insured.

It is worth your time and money to visit this island. However, be careful about the rainy season as many tropical storms and hurricanes will appear and ruin your trip. Even you would be stuck in the islands for several days as no flights and boats can work.

Aside from the expensive Six Senses Resort, most of the hotels and resorts on the island cater to Vietnamese tourists who come to the island to visit the historic sites. The island has alot of potential for nature lovers with good diving, snorkeling and jungle trekking potential. There is already a good scuba diving company on the island called 'Dive! Dive! Dive!'. The island has an interesting history which includes royal visits and a dark period when the island housed horrific French and later American prisons. It's worthwhile to spend a day visiting the museums/prisons to understand Vietnam's turbulent history (especially the grave of national hero Vo Thi Sau, a 19 year old female freedom fighter, executed on the island by the French). The town's museum is simple but has interesting old photos. The beaches are pretty but not as nice as Phu Quoc island. Overall, Con Dao is a nice/interesting, history and beach break from Saigon/HCMC (45min. by plane).

The town is quiet and romantic, we were there during the vietnam holiday but it was not overcrowded like other places. The food was great, the people was honest and friendly. It is absolutely safe on the island, you can leave your motorbike unlocked and no one would touch it. You can see sunset and sunrise on the island, discover different beaches and the national park. This island is absolutely beautiful and breath-taking.

The hiking is ok, nothing out of this world. The food is expensive. The diving is more expensive then anywhere i've been before. But the views around the island are amazing. It's just sad that a lot of the island is starting to get developed and it will soon be destroyed. Go now before it's over run with houses and buildings that have no consideration for the beauty around them.

This is a real Vietnamese town that does not necessarily cater to tourists, let alone western ones. That said, it is wonderful for relaxing, nature sightseeing, and diving/snorkelling. It is an important historical place too. It is more expensive than other places, but bear in mind that everything must be shipped in, so it costs to do that. Lovely place to unwind and recharge.
