Sheraton Mustika Yogyakarta Resort & Spa
Yogyakarta Airport,Yogyakarta - View on map
"We took a bit of a stab in the dark with staying in Yogyakarta as no one we knew had been there or knew about any of the sights. I had seen a documentary about Borobudur however and was determined we were going to see it. We chose the hotel purely on reviews and to be honest, the reviews do not do the place justice! There were many safety procedures as we arrived and in one way felt it was a little over the top but then realised during our first day how much it was needed. Safety and security at the hotel was very important and we felt happy to be staying there! We arrived at night so went straight to our room, the room was large as well as the bathroom and the balcony had a lovely night view of the swimming pool. When we woke up in the morning we were completely blown away with the view of Mount Merapi in the distance. The view from our room didn’t quite match the one from the breakfast area/restaurant where we were literally stopped dead in our tracks. The hotel certainly feeds off the volcano as an attraction point with big floor to ceiling windows and balcony areas so you can stare in awe. The first day we wanted to explore a little of Yogyakarta itself but were soon stopped in our tracks. The taxi driver we ordered from the hotel tour guide wouldn’t leave us to explore and instead insisted on showing us around the tourist shops etc via car. The distance between the places were no in walking distance and it soon became apparent we needed a car for many reasons so were grateful. Yogyakarta is trying to be a creative hub and there are many artistic marks on the city, sadly the place is not exactly “tourist friendly” yet but it is a very authentic Javanese city and we are glad we visited the area. The next two days we booked a driver from the hotel to take us to Borobudur and Prambanan the first day and Ketep Pass the next day to see Mount Merapi close up. Our driver Agung was fantastic, he was very friendly and made the few hours we had in the car each day go a"

Rajaklana Resort villa and spa
Bantul,Yogyakarta - View on map
"We are setting all expectations low when booking online. It always pays off. Rajaklana gave us new experience, especially for our two little boys. They called it forrest houses. Because the route to Rajaklana passes lits of hills and forrest. And better yet, the locations of Rajaklana surrounded by tons of jati trees. They love both swimming pools. The infinity one being our favorite but the boat one is our kids favorite. Because it is practically just us that day, we cannot experience Rajaklana fully all out. Definitely will be back again soon. "

Queen of The South Resort
Parangtritis,Yogyakarta - View on map
"I can say that they are the only beach hotel/resort in yogyakarta, with stunning view and great location. However the hotel facilities are very standard. Our room didn't even have a shower head (probably gone). The view is undeniably gorgeous. Must try."

The Westlake Hotel & Resort Yogyakarta
Sleman,Yogyakarta - View on map
"We enjoyed our week at this hotel and had a really good time using it as a base for trips around Yogyakarta (Borobodur, Prambanan, Yogyakarta city). The lake view rooms are great as you can watch the fish swim past your room or even feed them (great for kids). Everything was in good condition and well tended, the breakfast buffet was huge with a lot of different things to choose from. Things to know: There isn't much to do within walking distance of the hotel (apart from eating at the Westlake Resto), so you do need transport for everything else (not a problem though, just use Grab or BlueBird). You can have your clothes cleaned at Mama Laundry on the main road, but brush up your Indonesian as the owner doesn't speak much English (you'll manage though). Don't be afraid to ask for a knife at breakfast, they actually do have knives (at least one :-))!"

d Omah Hotel Yogya
Bantul,Yogyakarta - View on map
"yogyakarta is known as the centre of art and culture in java. we found all of it in a single place, wrapped in a package called hotel d'omah run but a man called warrick purser. not enough can be said about this garden of eden.  this isn't just a hotel. it is a living breathing village that just happens to take in guests.  with warricks personal touch we believe this hotel is one of our favorite  five star hotels at much less than standard five star prices.  lived in a little village called tembi south of yogyakarta for 15 years where he founded his business 'out of asia' which exports the work of yogyakarta's artists to the world. in 2006 the village was leveled by a massive earthquake which damaged much of yogyakarta including warrick's home. instead of pulling the plug warrick decided to utilize the remains of many of the village houses (principally the housing joists and carved wooden doors) to build a hotel styled on the theme  of a javanese village with each room showing some of the unique character of the area. with new walls and modern conveniences (beautiful open air but under cover bathrooms) each set of rooms at the d'omah has a wonderfully old style javanese feel with modern conveniences, their own beautifully set out and comfortable lounging areas and pool. the amenities are meticulously planned, rooms come with ear plugs for the local mosques, mozzie spray, international  adaptors, emergency lamps and ours had its own aviary.  the hotel is full of magnificent pieces of art that we wanted to take home (if our house was big enough). this hotel felt like the indonesian home we have always wanted and the staff made us feel exceptionally welcome and met out every request (some we haddn'te named) with a smile. the really impressive bit however is engagement with the tembi village. to bring money into the decimated village has funded a number of micro-credit projects (i believe 16) whose businesses he then supports (guest laundry "
