There is so much to say about the My Dream Resort, warm welcome from the manager when we arrived she was very nice making sure all our needs were met. Hotel with a feeling of home, nice clean rooms, quite location, just a 3 minutes walk to the local vegetables and fruits market where you can get a feeling how Lao people live, i had the best coconuts from a shop where a very pleasant woman worked. The owner of a resort is a wonderful young man who was born to work in hospitality a person who is constantly learning and improving, humble and very kind man. The stuff in the Hotel will take care of all of your needs in a pleasant manner. Breakfast buffet is so tasty, i had the most delicious vegetarian dish in my life green beans and pumpkin i had to go refill my plate 3 times and i could not get enough of it, even the eggs tasted so good, food made with love and care, organic ingredients you just just feel the difference in every bite you take. I stayed at the le bel air resort for two days and there i felt i was constantly being watched food was not so delicious. My mother was pleased with everything, i wish we could have stayed longer at the My Dream Resort. I also liked the swimming pool nice place to relax and cool off and very quite garden on the nam ken river. I loved a 15 minutes walk across the old bridge to the city as i rediscovered this beautiful, romantic city forgotten in time. I recommend this Hotel to everyone, feeling of home, i was relaxed i felt i can do anything i wanted. the best selling point is the food, after My Dream Resort it is hard to eat in any other Hotel because nothing comes close to their food. Make sure you meet Mr. Bounsa. As we were leaving the owner took us to the shuttle said good buy and waited until the shuttle left, little thing like this that make the difference. I want to use this chance and thank Mr Bounsa and all his staff for a wonderful experience that stays for a life time. Thank you My dream resort!

The design of each room in this luxury resort are inspired by one of the eight ethnic minority groups found in Laos (Akha, Hmong, Katu, Lanten, Lao Lum, Tai Daeng, Tai Lue and Yao.) . Each room also have a card describing the profile of the ethnic group it is designed after. I had a Katu room. The rooms are very stylishly designed and is very comfortable and clean. The balcony also offers a magnificent view of the rock formations across the river from the hotel. The hotel also has a very nice garden and swimming pool. Relaxing in the pool and looking at the view of the rock formation is relaxation to the max. The hotel also provides bicycle to explore the area around the hotel. i highly recommend getting a bicycle to ride to the area across the bridge next to the hotels to explore the area as it offers impressive views and great photos shot opportunities of the limestone formations and rice paddies. The hotel charges USD 6 for a normal bike and USD 7 for a mountain bike if you book the hotel through other sources like agoda.com but offers the bikes for free if you book directly through the hotel. I highly recommend this hotel. It is one of the best resort i ever stayed at and the price i paid for such a beautiful hotel with such stylish room is very very reasonable. I will definitely stay here again if i visit vang vieng again.

My friend and I stayed here for 2 nights during our visit to Vang Vieng from 25-27 July. Seriously, the photos of the hotel from the internet are exactly the same as what you going to get when you see it with your own eyes. It's breathtaking and looks like the view that you can only obtain from a postcard. Value wise, the hotel consider well worth it with this kind of view. Not to forget, the breakfast served are superb - the best I had tasted throughout our visit in Laos. The staffs also very friendly, especially Thorn which often serve us at the restaurant. One downside, in order to get to the hotel from the town, you need to cross this man-made bridge that the local charge a tol fees - different price for walking, with bicycle or bike, and by tuk tuk. Hence not many tuk tuk willing to send you to the hotel. They will just stop you at the bridge and you need to walk 5 min to reach the hotel.

This incredible boutique hotel is really something!Under the caring and ever watchful eye of hotelier Philippe Bissig my wife and I Felt we were guests in a private home. La Residence Phoh Vao is so unique its worth the trip to Laos just for the experience. We are a couple of foodies and rate the Lao inspired French cuisine at the top of the best we have tasted and an excellent wine list, all at sensible prices.Infinity pool, and pampering Spa for the girls

Four of us (two couples) spent a wonderful weekend here. The beds were very comfortable, and the rooms spacious with large clean bathrooms. The garden is really beautiful and looked after by the owner who takes great pride in showing you all her plants if you show interest. Breakfast is included and although basic, it's fresh and more than adequate. We thought the real Lao coffee (with sweet milk) was especially good! The daughter of the owner who speaks excellent English was particularly hospitable, allowing us to extend check-out til very late and writing us note in Lao to assist us with local requests. Our weekend was very relaxing and the environment most enchanting. The river is right there if you want to take advantage of the various forms of water craft. In addition, the whole experience was very good value for money.

Having compared high end resorts in Thailand, China, and now Laos, I can say that this one is very well done, and a good value for money. The same quality of design in China costs far more. The resort is laid out along the Namkat River. Every guestroom has a big floor-to-ceiling window looking out directly on the flowing river. The resort is a bit spread out, but the footpaths linking the different areas are pleasant to walk on, and there is a free golf cart service, too. Kind staff, excellent breakfast buffet. Lunch and dinner at the restaurant are good, too. Expensive compared to standard restaurant costs in Laos, but that's to be expected at any resort. The grounds are beautiful, especially the main lodge and the swimming pool area. We did the 9-zipline course in the neighboring park, which was a good deal at $35/person. It's about an hour of ziplining and the course is very well designed, very high up in the trees, and covers more than 1 km in distance in all.

We had a good time here. The view is very nice and the rooms are fantastic. The food was good and the prices, while being much higher than in town were good for a resort. My only complaint is the same complaint I have basically everywhere in Laos, the staff leaves something to be desired. There must have been 3 employees for every one guest at the resort while we stayed there but they weren’t particularly attentive. We ate breakfast while being watched by six employees but no one ever filled our coffee. Not a huge deal but the resort has such potential. My other complaint was that on the first night an employee followed us out to our vehicle as we were leaving, to go explore the town,to tell us that we couldn’t go without paying our tab of $6.50. The hotel allows you to keep a tab for the length of your stay. We explained that we were coming back. Again, not a huge deal but very unnecessary. We had prepaid for two rooms for two nights so skipping out to save $6.50 absurd.

The resort is in a quiet area but we were able to walk into the main town within 10 mins. the restaurant offers good food and overlooks the river. the pool is clean and refreshing. The staff are very helpful and happy - the room was clean and very comfortable but a bit small - it didnt bother us though. The bathroom was huge with top ups of all the lotions and potions every day. the bungalow has a patio where you can sit and unwind. The wifi was a tad slow but we got through ok in the end. There was some building work going on which is necessary to keep a resort fresh and modern - building work seems to be happening all over Laos. The town was not full of drunk teenagers due to new laws concerning the high death rate of drownings when tubing. We enjoyed our tubing experience alone of the river for 2 hours drifting with the current amongst the fantastic scenery. We stayed at Villa Vang Vieng Riverside for 5 days and loved it.

After having the best sleep we had on our trip on a nice firm comfortable bed and on a quiet and peaceful resort, we began to really appreciate our stay. The host offered us a SIM card so we can use wifi anywhere we want. We began to get used to the boat ride and the bus shuttle into town, even it is a bit of commute. The resort was very accommodating wherever we want to go into town and anytime of the day including the morning trip to alms giving. The manager and his assistant were wonderfully helpful to everything including late check out and letting us to leave the luggage on the shuttle bus and meet up at a later time to catch the bus out of town. The breakfast is limited but it was tasty served by very pleasant servers. I was glad that I booked at the resort to appreciate the perfect stay instead of staying in town.

This villa is well situated with pretty gardens and a beautiful view over the Nam Song River and the karst mountains. These are best enjoyed from the terrace which offers wonderful sun sets. The breakfast was great the first day when there were only two other couples but slightly disappointing the following day when it got busy. All the other meals we had were very good and the service was excellent. Despite the rooms being ever so slightly dated, they are immaculate and very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. All in all, this was a very pleasant stay and I would definitely recommend it if visiting Vang Vieng!

I chose this resort for a last few days of R&R at the end of my holiday, as the pool and beautiful grounds appealed. There was a problem with my booking on arrival as the internet had been down the previous day and I had only booked online 2 days previously. However after a conversation with the duty manager later, I was accommodated at the town hotel for one night together with a room upgrade, free lunch and complementary bottle of wine. My next two days back at the resort were fabulous and very relaxing! The free shuttle works well and an evening visit to the town for dinner or night market shopping is very manageable. I loved the Royal Lao Cuisine cooking course in their restaurant, though would have enjoyed a market visit as part of it

Due to not being able to make the nearby Thai/Lao border crossing at Chong Mek/Vang Tao the day of my original booking, I called the Thai manager to let him know I would only be arriving the following day. This was accepted, although once I arrived, the manager claimed he would need to check if he can move the booking one day ahead, such that I keep all my 3 originally booked nights. I thought this was strange, especially since after the first night, I was the only guest in the entire resort for the remaining 2 nights. Given the somewhat isolated location out of town, the resort is practically speaking only accessible to those with their own transport and tour groups, most of which tend to be Thai. The villas were beautiful and just about perfect except they were missing the all-important desk to do your work on. Having a nice sofa was all good and well, but without a desk it was difficult to do any work and even the way the sofa was located perpendicular to the TV didn't make it very practical to watch TV from the sofa. The gardens were very nice, though perhaps a pool or something would attract more guests. Breakfast was basic, just a couple of Thai-Vietnamese choices, but given the lack of guests, I guess they can't justify having a buffet. Otherwise, definitely the best resort east of Pakse, and far better than anything located at nearby Ban I-tou or Paksong, where only very basic accommodation is offered. The resort, being located at lower elevation is also a bit warmer and therefore more pleasant to stay at than Paksong, which can get a bit chilly especially in winter.

If you would like to experience authentic Laos countryside life and hospitality go to Nam Ou. Our family stayed in Nam Ou for 6 nights. We stayed in one of the superior double villas. The villas are made of Rose wood,with high ceilings and all are tastefully decorated . All the villas have balconies facing the Nam Ou River. The beds are large and comfortable and there is strong water pressure and hot water. (Thank goodness as we did not know Laos temperature could drop to 10 degrees in the evening during winter!) We were travelling with our 4 and 10 year old daughters and we thought they would be bored but we were able to relax, visit Luang Prabang and the villages along Nam Ou and the Mekong River. The resort guide took us by boat to authentic Lao villages along the Nam Ou and Mekong River with absolutely no tourists but us. The villagers were very friendly. We enjoyed an afternoon with the elephants in the resort. There was a baby (9month old) elephant and she was very amusing. There is WIFI only in the common areas like the pool, restaurant/lobby which was a good break from constant use of electronic devices. The resort is located 35 kilometres from Luang Prabang City centre but the hotel arranged a vehicle and a driver for us for a reasonable price. Mr Outsama, the hotel manager was very helpful, kind and sincere. He speaks English, French and Lao. Breakfast is very good (a la carte). Allocate an hour for breakfast (there is no point in rushing the staff) and enjoy its beautiful views of the river and the mountain. The restaurant serves delicious Lao dishes at reasonable prices. Service is always with a smile. They could have included a few Western dishes for those longing for a change from Asian food.

We had a very pleasant stay of 2 nights at the resort with a spacious room, nice staff, tasty food in the restaurant and it's beautiful surroundings. On the second day with did the half day tour to Tad Champi: a great hike through the coffee plantation, local village and old mountain fire (dan xinxay) to the waterfall. Really worth it!! With it's great location close to the waterfalls (tad fan, tad yeang and it's own tad Itou) the resort has great oppurtunities. It could offer other excursions e.g. mountainbiking to the waterfalls, or a trip to tad lo or having rental bikes.

We had booked for one night - and as soon as we arrived and sat on the terrace watching the dramatic sky prepare for sunset over the stunning views of the hills and river, we immediately decided to stay an extra night. That was such a great idea as the Sanctuary Pakbeng Lodge is such a comfortable and relaxing and well run hotel in a remarkable setting. A tip to travellers: Book your journey by slow boat in two parts, so you can stay a few days at the Sanctuary. Another highlight: You MUST visit the Sanctuary-run Mekong Elephant Park - on the opposite bank of the river. Here we walked with 3 gentle elephants and their mahouts & the wonderful park manager, Wendy, slowly through the forrest whilst they munched bamboo and we learnt interesting facts and stories about Lao elephants. This was a highlight of our trip in Laos as one of the few places in the world where one can see that the elephants are so well looked after and cared for and walk with the elephants untethered. Very special

We loved our 3 nights here, this hotel is on a hill overlooking phonsavan so suggest a Tuk Tuk to get you here from the town if you have bags, otherwise it's only a 25 min walk into town ,so unlike other reviewers we walked in and out with no problem. They are little wooden chalets, with a sitting area which has the fireplace and the staff will give you as much wood as you want for no charge, and even light the fire for you. We loved this, every night when we got back from town after dinner, to sit next to a real fire reading a book in what is best described as a Swiss chalet on a hill..the dogs are super friendly ( and numerous) and will walk around with you if you walk in the Forrest, they know the best paths! The breakfast is one of the best in Laos. Can't recommend this place enough, you will love it if your not to fat and unfit. Don't mind walking. Or have your own transport. The two young lads who seemed to be running the place where fantastic and couldn't do enough for you..great place to stay.

Laos Spirit Resort is a truly incredible getaway in the beautiful Laos jungles. The location is extremely beautiful and the entire resort is impeccably designed and run. The individual bungalows offer an excellent balance of privacy and exposure to natural beauty. The bungalow architecture and construction are themselves scenic and made of local materials on site. The various excursions (e.g., trekking, elephant rides, kayaking) are well-organized and well worth their modest costs. The restaurant food, though a bit pricey relative to the ridiculously inexpensive standard of food throughout Laos, is very good, locally grown, and prepared to order anytime of day. The fruit shakes, coffee, and homemade coconut ice cream are truly exceptional. The entire staff are remarkably friendly, competent, and accommodating. They strike a perfect balance between anticipating their guests' needs and respecting their guests' privacy when they want it. On top of all this, the resort works closely with local village communities to employ local villagers and give back to the community. Overall, one of the best vacation experiences we've ever had. Overall, though, a truly exceptional and wonderful resort and vacation experience.

It was a last minute decision to go to Nong Kiaw and we are so pleased we did. A lovely small town and a very scenic part of Laos. The Nong kiau resort was a wonderful place to stay. Our bungalow was spacious, peaceful and everything we needed. The resort organised a day trip on a boat further north to a waterfall, some villages and to muang ngoi ( wished we could have spent a few nights here as well). What a great day we had with Nick our boatman and Vong our guide. After the comparative rush of Luang Prabang we thoroughly enjoyed the laid back no rush feel of the town and the resort.

Great place to stay with huge balcony overlooking the Mekong River and amazing views throughout the resort and very good food. The place was completely empty of customers for some reason so had the resort totally to ourselves. Location is only 10 mins away from main centre of Pakse which doesn't actually have much to offer so was nice staying here in a sleepy paradise by the river. Definitely recommend staying here.

Just got back from a week long stay at the View. The owners, Lek and C were absolutely wonderful. They were attentive to our requests and made sure that we were comfortable and taken care of. The place was the perfect getaway. Very quiet and serene. The rooms were simple but clean (the staff don't wear shoes inside the individual units when they service the roooms) and had all the basic amenities. Our unit also had air conditioning that worked fine although we didnt need it most nights. The view of the sunrise was much better than the pictures on the website, and many Westerners sat out on the swing sets, recliners and chairs each morning in quiet awe. The place itself is close to tiny food stands and offered several tours with transportation for day trips, biking, Vat Phou, waterfalls, and the city markets. But the best part was definitely the food which ranged from pizza (excellent with homemade dough) and burgers to Pad Thai and Papaya salad. Best place to stay in the area!

We decided to splurge and stay here while doing the loop. Liked it so much that we stayed for a 2nd night (see 2nd review). The grounds are amongst the most beautiful we have stayed at in 9 months of travel. Absolutely gorgeous gardens, plantations and chalets. We requested to eat at the balcony overlooking the Red Creek and it wasn't a problem. Our room was very cool, the walls decorated with cross-hatched rattan and fully-furnished; the balcony with garden view was our favourite part. The food & beverages, though pricey as expected, was always delicious, especially the hot chocolate. They have a puppy, two dogs and a cat, all of which are incredibly friendly and a pleasure to play with. The only thing that did throw us off were some issues with the staff. The owner, Phillipe, is a highly educated and multilingual gentleman. He can be friendly, but at times was a bit disconnected from his customers. Upon check-in, he asked us where we're from, and when my Chinese-American girlfriend said America, he followed up by pulling his eyes at the corners to make them slanted (like Asian eyes) and asked where she was originally from. I was pretty appalled by this action since it's discriminatory behaviour that only very young children do to taunt their Asian counterparts, so I hope he never repeats it with any East Asians he meets in the future. As for the Lao staff, they were always courteous, however, they brought us a different breakfast than what we ordered and also forgot to serve us the fruit that was supposed to be included with it. We loved our stay at Sinouk and hope to return one day!

...we knew it wouldn't be easy to get to a "real" Nirvana. The location is so nice, directly by the lake, surrounded by many trees. Wooden bungalows, simple but cosy and with terrasse. Simple but sufficient bathroom. We didn't search for luxury but for some quiet days in the nature, so the circumstances could have been great! Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed. The great pizza promised to us in other reviews didn't exist, nor did breakfast or lunch (nobody there who could cook). So we had to go to Sanctuary nearby (amazing food) or to the upper bungalows run by a nice lady (food ok but not spectacular). There also was no possibility to join an advertised "Boat tour with BBQ". The owners are friendly but somehow a bit indifferent (as long as the customers are not French ;)) so we felt a bit "forgotten". The resort itself lacks some tidyness, it's all a bit too "laissez-faire" for our taste. But a nice plus: The owners take really good care for their animals! We loved Bouba bear!

Traveling with family in Oudomxay province, we chose this hotel for our 4-night stay in Pakbeng, so we could relax and enjoy quiet time altogether. The location is amazing, benefiting from an exceptional viewpoint. The pool is a delight, the room is great (missing some seating furniture inside or on balcony) and the staffs are wonderful (smiling, caring). However, standards are not meeting expectations for this price range... Gym, sauna and spa are advertised on Agoda page, but there was nothing there!! We paid $15/pax for breakfast, which is completely overpriced considering the food offered: egg/bacon, croissant/bread, coffee/tea.. and that is pretty much it. We had many more varieties for cheaper in other hotels in Laos. Without mentioning $4 for a tiny glass of orange juice from a bottle that cost $2... Unfortunately, it feels like management is absent or overwhelmed. Overall, disappointed but thankful to the staffs who really did their best and made this stay remain a good one.

I've stayed at Kingfisher several times, and never been disappointed. The rooms are basic, but very comfortable. The restaurant serves the best Lao food in the south of the country, and the staff are helpful and friendly. If you're not comfortable with critters and insects, this may not be the place for you. There are lots of insects, reptiles and amphibians around - including large geckos in the rooms. As long as you go in expecting that and knowing they won't bother you, it should be an entertaining part of the experience. Hikes arranged by the lodge are well-planned and usually good value.
