This historic hotel in the heart of Ho Chi Minh is a classic blend of the old world and Eastern charm. The Rex Hotel Saigon has long been a favorite hotel among visitors to Ho Chi Minh, not only because of its central location close to the city’s many attractions and restaurant scene, but also because of its stunning architecture and quirky decor. The property has recently undergone a complete refurbishment but still manages to maintain its unique charm. Rex Hotel Saigon is located right in the city center and offers guests easy access to some of the city’s best restaurants and shops, including the famous Ben Thanh Market. The rooftop restaurant offers stunning views of the entire city and is a favorite hangout spot for most guests here. If you’re looking for the most convenient choice in town offering great value for money, look no further than Rex Hotel Saigon.

Rex otel - back again”
The Rex hotel is one of the 'classic hotels' of Asia, without the price tag to match. It does not have the glitz and glamour of the likes of Raffels or The Peninsular, but it has a lot more genuine 'atmosphere'. It's in a great location right in the centre of Ho Chi Minh City - Saigon - and many sightseeing locations are in easy walking distance once you get accustomed to crossing the roads with motor bikes swarming around you but carefully avoiding actually hitting you! The hotel is going through a long and drawn out renovation process which is gradually upgrading rooms. I usually book at the basi level and that level is inproving ... but with a little loss of 'atmosphere'. The breakfast is usually included in the very reasonable tarrif and has a good range of Asian and Western food. The rooftop bar is a great place to have a beer before going elsewhere for a better meal. A real positive is free wireless internet access with quite good bandwidth. I've stayed elsewhere in HCMC but nothing matches The Rex.
Hotel at the Center of Saigon”
my stay in rex hotel saigon was one of experience, because in 3 days and 2 nights, we occupied 3 rooms.the first room when we checked in was ok but since i booked at agoda and simply chose the cheapest rate available then, we were placed at the old wing, so we decided to be transferred to the new wing at additional reasonable rate which is way above the comfort of the old wing, however, the following day, we were moved again to the same new wing but the comfort room does not overflow and the bed bigger as compared to the second room that we occupied. nonetheless, it was a good experience because the hotel staff are friendly and quick to accommodate customer issues and concerns, i found the hotel management as being flexible despite its hugeness. not only are the front desk personnel were friendly but the waiters, doormen and housekeeping as well. the location was perfect as it is in heart of ho chi minh city, everything is accessible by taxi or walking.
Brilliant hotel, great amenities with good staff”
We got to the hotel quite late, so weren’t so keen on traipsing around at that point for a drink. Thankfully, after a smooth check-in, we found that the rooftop bar was open till about 2am so we managed to get a couple of drinks before bed. The room is clean and quite comfortable with all the amenities you would find in a good 4 star hotel. The breakfast buffet, was a decent spread of asian and western options which will keep you going till late afternoon. There is wifi through out the hotel, but it worked best at the roof top bar so you can put off your roaming and still be connected to the rest of the world. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the service at the bar/restaurants was pretty decent. When you do go out, you might need local currency and if you haven’t had the chance to exchange it, worry not because you can do so at the reception at a very good rate. The best aspect of the hotel for me was the location. The hotel is situated in the heart of District 1 and everything is walking distance from the hotel. You can find a city map in your room or at the reception and hold onto this for your trip, it’s very useful. Ranging from 5 to 20 minutes you can reach, the Ho Chi Minh city museum, War Reunification Palace, the War Remnant Museum, Notre Dam Cathedral, the Central Post Office, the Opera House, Ben Thanh market and even the riverside for a nice evening walk. You don’t feel like eating in the hotel, there are plenty of nice restaurants spread around the hotel ranging from local vietnamese pho to exotic french cuisines. There are quite a few bars around if you do take the effort to locate them if you want a good mix of the locals and expats. I however enjoyed drinking at the rooftop bar for nothing else but the fact that I was just knackered by the end of each day and didn’t have the energy to go out drinking. Everything is reasonably priced within the hotel as well. PS: Carry a bottle of water while you're out.
Excellent historic hotel with great service”
This is the third time I have stayed in the Rex Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Each time I have enjoyed the suites which are luxurious and reasonably priced. The tours are very organized and punctual. This time on one of the tours we had to return early as a relative was not well and this was handled considerately and very professionally. This hotel has a grand white marbled floor and red carpet entrance and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. There are 2 well maintained rooftop swimming pools plus a rooftop bar that has appeared in numerous travel magazines. At the moment they are renovating some of the older room so there is some slight noise in the daytime but otherwise it was not too intrusive. The suites are lovely with large beds, clean linen and good facilities. When next I go back to Ho Chi Minh I hope to return here.
Luxury hotel in a great location”
We stayed in 3 hotels during our 11 days in Ho CHi Minh City(HCMC, the first is Nikko hotel, second is the Duxton and the last one is Rex. We like the Rex the best since the room is very airy compared to Duxton, we have a problem with their air conditioner and the room is very damp from the high humidity level since there is no air circulation in the room. The Nikko is good as well except it is a bit far from the city center. Also, the Nikko staffs in the restaurant where we had our breakfast is not friendly. When we ask to put two tables together because we have 6 people they seem hesitant. The staffs in the Rex is very friendly except the bell boy took us to the staff only elevator when first arrived which makes us confused as to which elevator to use. Overall, excellent hotel. I would stay there again next time I am in town.
i really enjoyed staying at the rex. the location is truly perfect - my room overlooked the ho chi minh statue, 5 minutes walk from the refinery, 5 minutes from ben thanh market and saigon square, 10 minutes to apocalypse now, 10 minutes to notre dame, 10 minutes to the river, 20 minutes to bui vien/pham ngu lao... the room was super clean, modern, but with a vietnamese character. noise wasn't an issue. breakfast was great and service was efficient, friendly and helpful. free, fast, open wifi everywhere around the hotel (which is huge). the rooftop bar is a nice place to relax in the evening and the live bands were good, although obviously aimed their music at a certain age group. the swimming pool was well maintained but nothing special, just a standard rooftop pool. the gym was good, many (affluent) locals actually have membership there although i never saw more than 3 people in at one time. i've stayed at park hyatt before a couple of times but enjoyed my stay at rex much more - it's brilliant, and great value. i highly recommend it. by the way i stayed at a premium room which i think means new wing.
The Rex Hotel”
The Rex Hotel is in a great central location of Ho Chi Minh City. It is a really big establishment with many features such as the rooftop bar, open restaurant, swimming pool and beauty spa. The rooftop bar is a great place to get a cocktail with views of the city. The spa has many pampering treatments at reasonable prices. The staff would have to be one of the best aspects of the hotel - they really go out of their way to be so friendly and helpful. The rooms are a bit out of date, but perhaps this adds to the history of the hotel. The new wing is very fancy and there are more developments happening at the moment. Overall a wonderful stay at the Rex.
"Great location with excellent service"”
we stayed at the rex hotel, ho chi minh, for one night during tit (lunar new year period). as it is located in the center of the city, the street was crowded with people and bikes. fortunately the room we stayed was in new wing, and we can avoid the noise. the premium room was not as large as we imagined, but extremely clean and modern. there was no problem of water shortage. both large bath tub and shower booth were equipped, so it was comfortable for us. what i liked best was that they were kind enough to keep our luggage after checking out. our return flight was very late at night (23:55), we could see around the town and ate dinner without heavy luggage before leaving for airport by taxi. the clerk called a reliable taxi for us. it is a very convenient location for shopping, eating, and sightseeing. we also recommend you to stay at new wing as it is much quieter.
It's in the details”
The Rex Hotel has a lot of old Indochina charm and I'm glad we tried it . We booked the Rex Suite, since we like a spacious room. In the photo it showed a king bed only, which is what we wanted. What we got was a king bed plus another bed alongside. That left little space on one side of the bed and only one night table for one person. There is a partition in the room so that there is a small sitting area when you walk in the door with some, pretty stiff looking furniture. The bathroom is older decor, a little tired, and the "blackout" curtains had gaps at the sides and allowed light throughout, more like greyout curtains. The wood floors look good but creak when you walk on them. The breakfast is definitely the best we've had in our many stays in Saigon and the pool and health club were lovely. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Ran out of time to try the spa, which had a good menu and not bad prices for a five star hotel. The location is good, especially if you like high end shopping. Overall it was pleasant; we will continue to stay at a more secluded hotel in District 1 when we return
Excellent service,, but rooms were overrated”
Rex is known to locals as the top hotel in Ho Chi Minh City due to it's very cental location, if Ben Thanh Market is the heart of the city, then this is the right lung without a doubt. The service provided by the hostesses during breakfast was great. They know how to do their job very well. Both Swimming pools and gym facilities were top notch, however the swimming pool mattresses did need a bit of a clean and the workers seemed too keen to hang around the bar to care. However, rooms did not feel 5 star. Great but not quite earning that last star. The bathroom door did not close properly. Certain power points did not work well with the lightboard which was confusing. Wifi was only available in the first metre or so inside the room, but I brought this up with reception and they got someone to install a separate router in the room which was great. However the router depended on power points controlled by the silly lightboard, so when you switch certain lights on/off, it messed with the power of the router. Coming into the hotel, the welcome was not quite the 5 star greeting I was expecting. But in a country where people are struggling to put food on their plate, I don't think I'll even bother with 5 star accommodation in future. It just felt wrong if you know what I mean.
Lovely Hotel and Service with a Smile”
what a great hotel it was...yes...maybe there is some misunderstanding in some cases but the way hotel to handled it...really shows a 5 star hotel service...really hold the line of "customer is king"...and have a great place or location because really near to the place that we are looking for such as ben tnanh market...hard rock cafe...so for sure really looking forward to come back there again if we visiting ho chi minh city in the next future and for sure really highly recommended for all the traveller who wants or have a plan to go to ho chi minh city... the price just like 3 or 4 star hotel but the service & the hospitality is really really really like 5 star hotel... have a great day all <<...>>
Stayed here for 3 nights and booked the Rex suite. The hotel is very centralized which means that you can literally walk to most tourist sites in HCMC. It's located right across the Cityhall. The hotel itself is an attraction as I found out from some local tour brochures which included a visit to the Rex hotel. The famous rooftop bar is just located at the top of the hotel. The cho Ben thanh market is about 15 minutes walk away. The notre dame cathedral and the central post office is just a 10 minutes walk. The war remnants museum is about a 20-25 minutes walk and the HCMC museum is a 10 minutes walk. The hotel is located in the main shopping belt and the are tons of eateries, some famous ones just around the hotel. If you want to visit the Saigon river, it's just a 20 minutes walk, passing by the Bitexco financial tower. The location of the hotel is simply fantastic. Check in was quick and the front office staff was very friendly and attentive. They speak pretty good English too, and it's a bonus here in Vietnam as I found that not many people can speak English. They always smile at us when we were walking past the reception area. The lobby is huge and there is also a casino located within the hotel. The Rex suite was huge, with 1 queen and 2 double beds. There is a separate living room, dining room and another room with the 2 double beds. There is also a balcony overlooking the city hall. Basically, the rooms are cleaned everyday and one day, the room attendant even knocked on our doors to ask if we may need anything. Our beverages were refreshed everyday. The closeness to the main street also meant that it can get a bit noisy at times. Our suite is located on the old wing, which is not a problem at all. In fact, we had our breakfast every morning just one floor up. The swimming pool and the gym are also located on level 5. Breakfast offers a great selection and it's simply great. Overall, a fantastic stay and I will surely booked this place again if I am
Very good experience”
We had no complaints about the service and performance of the staff at the Rex Hotel, Ho Chi Minh City. They were excellent. The location of the hotel wonderful as it is within walking distance of some great restaurants and the Ben Thanh markets. The open air restaurant at night is great entertainment, and the breakfast is first class. Overall, we had a great time at the Rex Hotel and would recommend it to other travellers.
Quiet, elegant luxury”
We arrived earlier than anticipated, and within minutes a room was available for us - we were anticipating to be able to leave our luggage and go off to explore Ho Chi Minh. The suite (old Wing) we had booked was amazing with a view over HCM Square and the central round about, but with little traffic noise. Being directly under the Roof Garden we did get serenaded by the music until 2300 hours a couple of nights, quite pleasant. The room itself was large, comfortable with the most amazingly comfortable bed we had for our 5 week stay in SE Asia. The roof garden is a true experience - the drinks are Western prices or better. We chose to have dinner one night at the SH lounge opposite so the we could view the Rex from across the road (highly recommended for the food, experience and view). We were also able to organise a delayed check out by a couple of hours to match our flight, however we were there in the off season.Check in and check out was greatly appreciated, fast and efficient. There is a security presence in the hotel and we did experience it. All in all The Rex is an iconic hotel that well lives up to its reputation. The most beneficial comment I can make about the service is that I did not have to ask for anything - everything that I could have wanted was there, if it had been requested at booking, the issues were all noted and carried through without further prompting or enquiry. A lot of work goes in to make a guests stay as effortless and seamless as it was at the Rex. Exceptional.
good location with good service”
Rex hotel is located in the City center of Ho chi minh city which is the heart of Saigon. The service in the hotel is very good which make you very comfortable. The bathroom is very big and clean. Breakfast is very good with variety of foods. The fitness center and swimming pool is very big.
Great hotel, central location, exellent service”
This is the third time we have stayed in the Rex Hotel in Ho Chi Minh as it is our favourite choice. The suites are elegant, large, reasonably priced and comfortable. There are 2 rooftop swimming pools with a fantastic bar that has a great city view. The service is incredible - everyone is so obliging, friendly and professional and nothing is too much trouble. We had a breakfast option included which is good value as the buffet offers a mixed selection of fresh local cuisine.
A Gem in HCMC”
The Rex is one of the grade dame hotels of Ho Chi Minh City. Given that the hotel has been expanded several times and renovated in different eras, there is a wide discrepancy in the quality of the rooms. Ours was on the 4th floor with a restricted view of an interior courtyard. Given that the Rooftop Bar is on the 5th floor and has live music every night, we could hear all the lyrics quite clearly in our room. But the delicious breakfast buffet, free wireless and gym, and rooftop swimming pools all made this a trip to remember.
Oasis in a Sea of Insanity”
After two weeks on the road, we decided to splurge at the Rex Hotel before heading to Cambodia. Great move. The hotel is in the thick of things in Ho Chi Minh yet remains relatively calm and quiet within. The history behind the hotel (journalists during the American War stayed here) adds to its romanticism. The hotel has two open air pools which are so nice, esp at night, after a day of sweating in the streets. We also got a drink on the rooftop, which has stellar views but also sells the most expensive drinks we had while in the country. So beware. The rooms were clean, comfortable, everything worked. All in all, a good experience.
Brilliant Rex Hotel”
i would recommend rex hotel to any tourist who wish to stay and visit ho chi minh city for a week or more. the location is very central and all tourist attractions in the city is within walking distance. also can find good shopping center just next to the hotel. hotel gives welcome fruit basket and also nice swimming pool. the room rates is a good value for money. it is a 5 stars hotel.
Wonderful Rex Hotel at Ho Chi Minh City”
I have been staying in Rex hotel from Jul.28~31th and it's very nice hotel with good price. The service is very nice especially at reception desk and tour desk. The hotel has very nice car for trip arrangement(Bens or Camry)and you could get the support from Ms.Thuy(Tourdesk manager).I strongly recommend this hotel for the guests to Ho Chi Minh city and i'm sure you will have the same feeling as myself.
