Excellent service ”
Could not heap more thanks and praises to the staff at RIHGA Royal Hotel, Kyoto. The assistance from the concierge staff is amazing, they went out of their way to make reservations for us and also provided practical recommendations for day trips - a special shout of thanks to Stephanie and Sarah. The housekeeping staff are so accommodating and also helpful and kind. The biggest praises to be heaped on our ever so consistent and considerate shuttle bus drivers - what an amazing job you do. I am floored at the level of service, dedication and hospitality received at our visit to RIHGA Royal Hotel, Kyoto. A definite recommendation to stay here. For us a return is on the cards.

Great Hotel, location and friendly staff”
I love my vacastay at Rihga Royal Hotel Kyoto. I booked Deluxe Twin Non-Smoking Room which can accomodate for 4 peoples with 4 single beds. Spacous and luxurious room with very good quality of amenities, clean and comfortable beds. Helpful and frienfly staff that always provided us clear direction on how to go places around kyoto. Location is great, close to Kyoto Station. Hotel provides free shuttle bus from/to kyoto station. The only one cons is we have to pay for using the swimming pool. Very recommended for friends to stay at Rihga Royal Hotel Kyoto.
Dear Guest, Thank you for the great review of our hotel! We are always happy to hear when guests enjoy themselves in our recently renovated, modern Kyoto-style rooms. Our staff strive to provide a friendly, comfortable atmosphere so that our guests can truly relax during their vacations. As we are conveniently located near Kyoto station, the transportation hub of the city, it makes travelling around the city, shopping, and dining easily within reach. While we understand that it is not usual for pools to have extra fees in some countries, in order to maintain the quality and low prices of our hotel, we do only charge those who use the pool for its services. We apologize for this inconvenience and hope you will choose to stay with us again. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again very soon. Sincerely, Manager
Excellent Choice to Celebrate Our Birthdays”
RIHGHA Royal Kyoto is a beautiful hotel with the most friendly and attentive staff! My friend and I stayed in the Kyoto Style Superior Twin. I was very satisfied with the size of the room, given that often rooms in Japan are too small. I found the bed and pillow to be comfortable, and I loved the sitting area with the sliding shoji-screens over the windows. (Note: is it very easy to see into the room from outside the hotel.) Our amenities were Laura Ashley, with facial products from Pola. There is a free shuttle bus between Kyoto Station and the hotel every 15 minutes. As it was a short walk and we had little luggage, we did not use this service but it certainly is handy. It is too bad that guests with tattoos are not allowed to use the pool. However, we spent out time site-seeing and eating out, so we did not have time regardless. The best part was the cake I ordered for my friend, delivered at midnight! It made for an excellent birthday surprise. Thank you all, RIHGA Royal Kyoto :)
Had a great stay at RIHGA Royal Hotel Kyoto. It was great that there was a shuttle bus for us when we got to the station but it didn't take long to realise it is literally around the corner from the station which made it easy to catch trains to visit areas of Kyoto. Beds were comfortable and breakfast was ok. The rooms were very large, clean with lovely amenities. The only disappointing thing I would have to say about this hotel is you have to pay to use the pool. We tried the teppanyaki restaurant at the hotel which was amazing (expect to pay though). We also found a fantastic teppanyaki restaurant just down the road.
A 5* quality hotel in Kyoto”
The Rihga Royal Hotel Kyoto is a lovely Hotel in the main centre of Kyoto. It is well placed, just a short distance from the railway station and its Shinkansen high speed trains. The rooms are very well appointed and spacious with a good range of quality toiletries. The whole place is spotlessly clean, and the rooms are well serviced. I would rate the hotel as being 5 star, when compared with other 4 star hotels I have stayed in. Overall, the best hotel we stayed at in out tour of South Korea and Japan.
Decent Hotel near Kyoto Station”
We stayed in RIHGA Royal hotel for three nights and we has a good experience. The hotel is very close to Kyoto station and the hotel offers free shuttle bus to Kyoto Station every 15 min, which is very useful on raining days. The staff was able to change my room to a non-smoking room when we arrived to check-in. The Quad room size is decent compared to the Japan average. We didn't try the hotel dining since there are a lot food choices near the hotel and inside the Kyoto Station. Using the public transportation such as subway and bus is very convenient as Kyoto Station is the central hub for everything.
Lovely stay at the RIHGA Royal Hotel”
Recently stayed at the RIHGA Royal Hotel while visiting Kyoto and had a lovely stay. I had booked my accommodation through AGODA and was pleasantly surprised to be told that when I checked in that I had been upgraded to a suite, which was simply wonderful. First time I've ever stayed in a suite and the experience was terrific. Had so much room to move around in and it was tastefully appointed as well and clean and functional. The location with regards to its proximity to the main Kyoto railway station was about a 10-15 minute walk and once there you were able to go pretty much anywhere in Kyoto. Staff were helpful and courteous and the shuttle bus which runs every 15 mins to and from the station was also a nice bonus particularly if you didn't want to walk in the heat. Ate at their all day dining restaurant on a couple of occasions (had the lunch buffet and a la carte dinner) and everything was well presented, fresh, tasty, enjoyable and I thought reasonably priced for that sort of thing. Yes I enjoyed my stay in Kyoto and would recommend the RIHGA Royal Hotel to anyone who was thinking of going there.
A friend who travels to Kyoto for travel highly recommended RIHGA Royal and now I know why. They think of all your needs, from the bus shuttle from Kyoto Station to all the amenities. The service and kindness sets this hotel apart from the rest. My son got sick during our Osaka portion of our trip and by the time we got to Kyoto, he was miserable. The staff was so kind and helpful and went out of their way to help us. This is a large and luxurious hotel with compassion to really take care of its guests. If you are looking for a beautiful, clean, first class hotel in a great location with all the amenities and top notch service, you should stay here.
Dear Guest, Thank you for the great review of our hotel! We are truly humbled by such high praise, and we are pleased to hear that the staff took great care in helping you when your son became ill. RIHGA Royal Hotel Kyoto has wonderful and friendly staff. The hotel facility was very clean and comfortable. Our hotel room was spacious and perfect for our family of 4. I would highly recommend this hotel.

The RIHGA in Kyoto is a large hotel, a easy 7 minute walk from Kyoto station. The room was large for Japan, quiet, clean and comforatble. The staff spoke English very well and were happy to accomodate any questions. The Kyoto subway was a few minutes walk away, where there were several good restaurants, some shops and easy access to the surrounding tourist sites and places of interest. We would stay there again.
Dear Guest, Thank you for the great review of our hotel! Our staff truly appreciates your kind words. We are pleased to hear that you had no difficulty accessing Kyoto Station, popular tourist sites, and local restaurants. During your next visit, feel free to try one of our six restaurants, including Kouka Ryuho, or Chinese restaurant that serves rare and exotic dishes. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again very soon. Sincerely, Manager
So far so good.”
So far no big issue. Expect the housekeping lost my glasses. But the team found it back to me on the next day. They got very convenience service. E.g. shuttle bus to/from kyoto station and courier post service. We sent our luggage to osaka accommodation. Very good service. Clean and spacious room. Just the pillow are not so comfort. I will consider RIHGA again next time i visit kyoto.
Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We apologize that your glasses were misplaced. We have taken actions so that this may not happen again. We appreciate your understanding and patience in this matter. However, we are delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay and took advantage of our various convenient services. We hope to welcome you back to our hotel very soon! Sincerely, Manager
Probably the biggest room you'll find in Kyoto.”
Our first visit to Kyoto for a pre-wedding shoot. RIHGA was excellently located close to the central train station, had buses to nearby attractions and we even found a really good hipster coffee shop just across the street. The room had more than ample space compared to hotels in Tokyo which made it a really luxurious stay.
Dear Guest, Thank you for the great review of our hotel! Our staff truly appreciates your kind words, and we are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the size of the room, as well as easy access to Kyoto Station and local shops. During your next visit, feel free to try one of our six in-house restaurants, including Top of Kyoto, our revolving restaurant that offers fine French cuisine. We are glad that you had a pleasant stay and hope to see you again very soon. Sincerely, Manager
Professional & clean hotel”
We really enjoyed our stay at Rihga. With it's super convenient location close to the Kyoto train station, it means transportation is not a problem. The pricing of the stay was very affordable and we feel the quality of the rooms and service were high nevertheless.
Spacious & clean Hotel Room but wifi is weak”
Overall it was a nice stay. Taking into consideration Japan hotels are generally small, the room was spacious to fit our family of 4 with 4 beds. Well maintained interior and classy hotel lobby. Check-in & check-out were quick. They accommodated our request with a birthday card & local snack to surprise our little gal. There’s also a free shuttle service to Kyoto JR station which made it more convenient. However, the wifi was weak. This is definitely an area for improvement. We will consider staying with Rihga again.
Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While we are pleased to hear that you enjoyed speedy check-in and check-out service, as well as easy access to Kyoto Station via our complimentary shuttle bus, we deeply apologize for the poor Wi-Fi connection during your stay. Please know that we are working to improve this issue, so we hope to welcome you back in the near future with faster, stronger internet service. Sincerely, Manager
We had booked a family (quadruple room). The room is very spacious with 3 large single beds and a sofa bed which could easily accomodate another adult/ child. The room amenities were very good (incl USB fast chargers) and provided with premium toiletries. The staff is friendly and prompt. The hotel is within walking distance of Kyoto station (900 metres). A useful feature is the free shuttle drop & pickup to/ from Kyoto station. This service runs every 15 minutes and is convienent for travel with luggage to journeys in Kyoto or beyond. It is also with walking distance of Aeon Mall (less than 10 min) which gives good shopping and dining options. Ours was a hectic 2 day trip to Kyoto and hence did not avail of the inhouse dining facilities. Overall , we loved the room and would definetly hope to return on our next visit.
Nice and comfortable stay”
I have stayed in many Kyoto hotels, but found the Rihga Royal to offer good value for money. While the hotel looks old from the outside, it is nice and clean inside and the facilities are fine. They even have a nice-looking swimming pool, which we did not use. The hotel is walking distance from Kyoto station, but is about 10 minutes. Overall, it was a pleasant stay and was very good value for what we paid (around JPY 20,000).
Very Good Hotel”
Yet again AGODA booked had requested smoking rooms when I had booked non smoking. This time the hotel was very helpful and as they had no no smoking rooms of the same standard upgraded us to non smoking room and moved our cases while we were out sightseeing. We didn't really explore the hotel as we had a full 4 days sightseeing. Our 3 bed room was lovely with 3 full size single beds and enough room for 3 adults plus suitcases They do have a shuttle bus to Kyoto Station but it is a very easy walk once you find your way out of the station!!. Check in and out were very quick and smooth. We arranged for our cases to to sent on from Tokyo to Kyoto and back to Kyoto while we took an overnight bag to Hiroshima. This worked very well and would recommend rather than struggle through the trains stations with bags.
large hotel complex with great view over Kyoto”
The Rihga Royal hotel is located a 5 min walk from the main train station where a variety of bus lines stop including the two sight seeing lines for tourists. There are some restaurants close by but it is recommended that you go into the city center for dining and having some nighlife.
Clean but dated, and slightly expensive”
Rihga Royal retains the feel of a grand Japanese hotel of the 80's. Marble surfaces, wide spaces, and hence, larger rooms that you would find most other places in Japan. The size makes you feel that it would be staffed by a small army of people, and perhaps it was true but now Rihga runs a leaner crew. The reception is well staffed and speaks good English, especially the women who are eager to help and go out of their way. Sheets are clean and they provide Japanese-style robe pajamas (aka yukata) but the mattress is a bit older and you can feel the springs. Bathrooms are similarly clean but dated. The toilet is fitted with one of those fancy Japanese seats that are heated and have a bidet function. However the flush is located in a hard to reach corner. Location can be a plus or minus depending on the purpose and length of your trip. The hotel is a convenient 3 min walk away from the Kyoto train station, but is a good distance away from tourist attractions and downtown area of Kyoto. Net net, this is a solid hotel with great service, clean sheets, and a nice-sized room close to the station, although with older fittings. If you prefer to be in middle of all the action, perhaps another hotel may be more suitable. In my opinion it is slightly over-priced for the experience but perhaps this is because our stay was during Golden Week holidays.
