The staff in hotel was very friendly and helps me with different requests with a smile and gave good advice about places, not the one you expecting from the usual hotel staff. the room was clean and nice, the hotel is a bit old so the elevator is a littel slow. There is machines with water bottles you can fill whenever you want. the location is great and just in the middle of things

We really enjoyed our stay here, for 3 nights over New Years. The location is fantastic. The check in process was smooth and the staff were very accommodating to our needs. The facilities at this hotel were great - the gym was fantastic, free laundry facilities and complimentary bottled water, wine & cheese, and other snacks. The only negative experience we had was having to wait half an hour for an elevator on our check-out day. It then took another half an hour to check out and get our car back from valet. It was New Year’s Day however so it was obviously a very busy time. We had a really great stay here overall and would stay here again for sure.

Our stay was enjoyable. The rooms, though small, were clean and comfortable. The hotel staff was friendly, helpful and courteous. The River is located near great dining and shopping. It is also located near the theater district. I would recommend it to any one who is thinking of going to Chicago.

Lovely exterior....1920's chicago landmark hotel at the Michigan Ave Bridge with great view of architecture along river. My room was small but comfortable...perfect for me. It didn't occur to doorman/valet to assist with door (on a very cold day) as I struggled to get in hotel entrance with luggage. Other than that staff were friendly and helpful.

Front door and front desk -- people were helpful and welcoming. Linens & bedding -- just dandy. Location of the HOTEL -- in the center of it all. Location of my room -- well, tucked behind the elevator has the potential for a little extra noise. Still and all, I slept well, felt safe, appreciated the morning Keurig coffee. Thanks.

Looks are Deceiving ”
I paid for a king bed and when we got there it was two twins beds pushed together and the front desk proceeded to tell me that is how they do the king beds throughout the hotel. I was then “upgraded” to a queen, which wasn’t really an upgrade except the window was now 5ft tall from waist length to ceiling where as the first room had about a 3ft window. While it was clean the from debri the carpet was coming up in the corners and stained badly. The bed was hard and lumpy as well. Despite this we did have a river view and there was an espresso machine on the second floor! The staff was friendly and moved me promptly with no hassle.

This hotel excellently located and has one of the best staff! From front reception to maintenance staff, they are all really friendly and warm! Our experience in Chicago is made sweeter meeting all these wonderful people at the hotel! My friend and I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. After 1 hour uber ride from airport and missing the junction to hotel, we were met by Mr Andreie from the hotel reception. A friendly face and warm welcome was exactly what we needed. Mr Andreie was really great - giving us a lot of advise on where to go, what to do, etc... We had a blast exploring places in Chicago based on his advise. The hotel bed was great though our room was really small. The air conditioning was not really working well. There was not much view either. Having said that the hotel was really strategically located, value for money, amenities are working superbly. We also like the idea that the hotel provide filtered water facilities and empty bottles to hotel guests so that we do not need to buy any drinking water from a store. Anytime I am back in Chicago, I will definitely choose the River Hotel!

90 year old building that used to be the tallest in Chicago, but as a result of its being one of the narrowest sky scrapers ever, only about 4 rooms per floor. No over crowded hustle and bustle. I guess the housekeepers are instructed to unplug the fridges. I didn't like that. Had to keep re plugging it in. Great location on the river and Michigan Ave.

Brilliant location would stay there again in future buses across the road and very short walk away best links for a hotel we have stayed in while I'm Chicago for that. Rooms bright and airy (minus view of trump tower) but great city views. Staff all very friendly and helpful. If there was just an include breakfast option at good value it would be perfect.

Best attention to detail ever!”
The River Hotel is by far the best place I have ever stayed in regards to their attention to the details. The shower knob is set close to the outside for easy reach. On the nightstand is a multi port charger and a clock with oversized thick numbers visible without glasses. They have a yoga mat in the closet, refillable "bottled" water on every floor, coffee machine that makes great coffee, and many more. I don't plan on staying anywhere else!

Nicely updated in an updated building deep downtown. Does charge an extra fee for a 3rd guest (young child in this case), despite having booked for 3. River view is actually Trump Tower view. In too HVAC is a little noisy and doesn’t hold temp all that well (too warm, mostly) and exterior sound insulation could be better. It was easy to hear all sirens through the night, but I don’t know how they fix that without changing the exterior of the building/windows.
