Only pro is it's price is usually cheaper than ones around it..also location is great as you are in middle of town so a short walk or ride to get any where. Other than that the hotel is very averages, with very small rooms, no really amenities to speak about .. bathroom is tiny, and no water pressure in shower. Room is good if you don't care for any space. Free water is good, but at 200 plus a night...not much value for the dollar...shop around you can get a better hotel for around same price with more space. I would not stay at again given this experience.
Better options for a lot less”
Historic hotel, but otherwise very overpriced for what you get. No view (except the dumpsters and homeless in the back alley), next to no amenities, parking is absurdly expensive, regardless of the cost paid for room , and desk staff is totally lacking anything like personality. Valet attendants were great, water pressure was excellent and there was plenty of hot water, that was nice. Beds were comfortable. Tv claims to be able to connect with smart devices to use streaming apps, but actually does not allow any streaming apps to work, that was a BIG disappointment, since it was a major determinant in choosing this hotel. No military discounts and they refuse to apply program rewards points if reservations are made online through a 3rd party booking site (most hotels do, since they get paid either way), and the on-site restaurant was closed for renovations without notice. Having paid $300+/night, I expected a heck of a lot better. I doubt very much that we will return.
Good Hotel on the river.”
Nicely updated in an updated building deep downtown. Does charge an extra fee for a 3rd guest (young child in this case), despite having booked for 3. River view is actually Trump Tower view. In too HVAC is a little noisy and doesn’t hold temp all that well (too warm, mostly) and exterior sound insulation could be better. It was easy to hear all sirens through the night, but I don’t know how they fix that without changing the exterior of the building/windows.
Great location! Brilliant public transport links”
Brilliant location would stay there again in future buses across the road and very short walk away best links for a hotel we have stayed in while I'm Chicago for that. Rooms bright and airy (minus view of trump tower) but great city views. Staff all very friendly and helpful. If there was just an include breakfast option at good value it would be perfect.
Great value. Great location. Nice acomodations. Fun.”
Wish the windows were cleaned so we could really enjoy the great view of the Chicago river. Still nice though.
The location is key! This was our second stay here and we had a great view both times. The hotel is clean and the service is quick! Great restaurants and shopping near by. Only a 20-25 dollar cab ride to Wrigley. 25 minute walk to the train station and they will store your luggage before and after check-in/out.
Best Hotel at the right location ”
The hotel is perect for the location. Everything is walking distance and the service was perfect. I really recommend this property.
Location location location”
This hotel excellently located and has one of the best staff! From front reception to maintenance staff, they are all really friendly and warm! Our experience in Chicago is made sweeter meeting all these wonderful people at the hotel! My friend and I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. After 1 hour uber ride from airport and missing the junction to hotel, we were met by Mr Andreie from the hotel reception. A friendly face and warm welcome was exactly what we needed. Mr Andreie was really great - giving us a lot of advise on where to go, what to do, etc... We had a blast exploring places in Chicago based on his advise. The hotel bed was great though our room was really small. The air conditioning was not really working well. There was not much view either. Having said that the hotel was really strategically located, value for money, amenities are working superbly. We also like the idea that the hotel provide filtered water facilities and empty bottles to hotel guests so that we do not need to buy any drinking water from a store. Anytime I am back in Chicago, I will definitely choose the River Hotel!
good location，valet parking is too expensive. room is small.
the location was very nice, near the riverwalk. located on big street. near 7eleven shop. the room was standard but enough.
Just big enough. Historic building.”
90 year old building that used to be the tallest in Chicago, but as a result of its being one of the narrowest sky scrapers ever, only about 4 rooms per floor. No over crowded hustle and bustle. I guess the housekeepers are instructed to unplug the fridges. I didn't like that. Had to keep re plugging it in. Great location on the river and Michigan Ave.
Exactly what we needed!”
Convenient and affordable - kitchenette was very useful. Spent two weeks here, and it was a great experience overall!
Stay elsewhere. The dread euro wet room”
What is the dread euro wet room? It's when there is no real shower. The shower is just a fixture on the wall of the bathroom. You'll see it in Europe where space is too tight for a separate shower. The water splashes everywhere. Messy, not clean, yucky. The river hotel has room but didn't bother putting in a tub or glass enclosure. Cost cutting? Speaking of, the shower controversy in the reviews, I can explain. The jet is as strong as a normal shower, so technically the water pressure is ok. The problem is the jet is less than half the size of normal - very narrow and the actual volume of water coming out is low. So it'll take twice as long as normal to take a shower. And thanks to the handicap bars and the shower curtain waviness you only have 2.5 feet of width in the shower, tight quarters for a guy. They should move the curtain out a foot, there's room. Sheets clean n comfy. Towels clean n rough. One wash cloth, one thin hand towel, two bath towels only! Near empty rough kleenex box. Only half a roll of TP. Dirty carpet and filthy chair. But, above average service people. I think you can find somewhere better for the same price.
Good location near the CTA station and by the river.
I was there for a couple of extremely busy days so I can only comment on the location, lobby, elevator and room. On the highlights, the staff was kind, the hotel was clean and the rooms were a bit old but well functioning. The main point was the hotel's ideal location and the good value for money. My 2 nights very satisfactory stay as you have everything you need for a business stay and I therefore recommend this hotel.
Chicago River Hotel”
Not enough ”
To expensive ! Nothin was complementery no breakfast generally not sufficient hotel
The location is quite good. It is near to the main attractions. I took metro from airport to the hotel and it took me about 15 min to walk from the metro station to the hotel which is acceptable. Actually there is another metro station which is 5 min walk from the hotel and can go directly to the main shopping street. It is also close to the "The Gate". The staff are nice but just a bit careless as they spent half an hour to find my luggage which I stored at the hotel for a week.
First rate. I would come back!
