a fantastic getaway”

River Rai only has 5 rooms, all facing the river. Not all of staff speak English well, but they go out of the way to satisfy your needs. One of them even took her motorbike, drove to the local market, and bought something we were searching for! The owner Greg, a Singaporean, greeted us with a tour of the property. You can tell he is very proud of it, and he should be. One issue was all the bugs and mosquitoes. It's hard to minimize them since the hotel is sitting on fertile land beside a huge river. Just be careful where you step. The tiles beside the pool can get very slippery when wet. I slipped and injured myself. Inside our (humongous) suite, bugs weren't a problem. Large floor-to-ceiling windows. The open interior brings in a lot of natural light, but without a divider between the living room and bathroom can be a hassle. When you're showering or using the toilet, you have to close not only the curtains in the bathroom but also the ones in the living room. The bed was very comfortable. The weird thing was that the blanket was only a duvet cover with no duvet/blanket inside it. The room does come with a throw towel in the closet/storage area. It wasn't a big deal because we didn't turn the A/C on very high anyway, but that was odd. Reminds me of Sri Lanka. Some of the furniture looked cheap, as if by an amateur carpenter. Staff explained that there isn't enough hot water to actually fill the bathtub, so we would have to boil additional water. Very strange, but we didn't use the tub anyway, as beautiful as it was. Very little counter space where the sinks are. Why not shift the tub and extend the sink area? Overall, the rooms are beautiful. The best part really is the staff. They remembered that it was my anniversary with my girlfriend, so they delivered a plate of beautiful desserts! Plus the welcome drink and fresh coconuts. We so wished we had more time in Chiang Rai to really enjoy River Rai and their top notch level of hospitality. And we missed the spa!

Riverside getaway”

My stay was excellent. The rooms are beautiful, large and fully equipped. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive and spoke English reasonably well. The location on the river is really impressive but it is a bit of a ways from town so you'd either want to rent a car or will need at taxi any time you'd like to go to Chiang Rai. I think the food and drink is a bit pricey and I think it would be better if the breakfast was included in the price (even if that means a price increase, it helps psychologically and there are no other options for breakfast really). All and all I would definitely recommend River Rai for a relaxing experience.

Perfect stay in Chiang Rai”

River Rai Resort is the perfect place to stay in downtown Chiang Rai. The front terrace and pool are situated next to the river providing peaceful, beautiful sunrises and sunsets. The food was off the charts good. The owners and everyone who worked there were very friendly. We only planned to stay one day, but extended a day because it was such a relaxing place. I highly recommend checking it out.

Wow wow wow”

We booked and stayed in a Junior Suite for 2 nights. The suites are brand new, large and have a great feel. A super comfortable bed, a great bathroom with free standing tub with room for 2 and a separate shower with great pressure. Our first night we were treated to a 5 course dinner of some of the tastiest Northern Thai food I have ever had. Breakfasts were fantastic (worthwhile staying here just to experience the breakfast). Nothing is to much trouble for the wonderful staff. They are warm and friendly and really made our stay. We extended for 2 more night and were upgraded to The Tara Suite. WOW, What a great room. We took advantage of the resort massage services which were top notch. Best place we have stayed in Chiang Rai for sure, cant wait to go back.

tranquillity by the river”

This is a perfect place to relax and escape the crowd. It is located on the riverside being about an eight minute drive to the centre of Chiang Rai. Several Thai restaurants are within easy walking distance serving authentic local food. The staff are truly outstanding and make your stay a real pleasure. There are only a small number of rooms. We had a junior suite which was very modern and well equipped to the highest standards. This boutique hotel is an home from home.

A true discovery”

An unforgettable experience. The location next to the river was very picturesce, the staff was so welcoming and extremely helpful throughout our stay. We did get valuable advice regarding sights, food options, travel routes and felt at home and taken care of from the first minute. The rooms were brand new, impecable design, very spacious and equipped with all amenities you could ever ask for (tub and shower, walk-in wardrobe). The bed was very comfortable and the texture of the bed linen was just adorable. Breakfast was extra tasty, we had the best egg Benedict plus a delicious Thai curry and fresh fruit and fresh juice. In the evening we enjoyed a massage outside on the river deck. The two therapists were well trained and had in mind our individual health conditions. I practiced yoga in the morning while my friend enjoyed the pool. We wished we could have stayed longer than two days but these two days will remain in our memories for long. Many thanks to Greg and his team who did take such good care of us and all the best for his small yet very special hotel endeavor. Disappointed ”

We were the only customers of the hotel. I guess I know why: absolutely not a fair price for the standard of the hotel compared to what you can have for that price in Chiang Rai along the river. We paid 4000 thb for 1 night while a fair price would be 2000 thb. Moreover breakfast was not good: really few choice to order in advance ( due to the fact we were the only one I guess)

The service was outstanding from a friendly and helpful staff. The junior suite was very clean and comfortable with all the amenities you would expect in a first class boutique hotel. Breakfast by the river was perfect. A very relaxing and romantic 3-day get away.

Very nice hotel with updated design”

The design of Garden View Deluxe Room and the owner's service are attentive and update. Bed linen is in good quality. The Owner introduced a Northern Thai Restaurant - Gallery Restaurant at downtown is very nice and with reasonable price. Porridge, in the breakfast (not included in the room rate) has made me surprise of its delicious. The owner also prepared the toast with butter and jam (even eggs) when I said I want some others.

Lazy Days”

Great for just relaxing and watching the slow place of life on the river. Staff are superb here and will do anything for you. All the reviews for this place speak for themselves.

The Best in Chiangrai”

This brand new riverside resort is located opposite to Le Meridien. The room was large,clean,had all the neccessary items 5-star hotels have. There's a truevision box with platinum package so you won't miss your must see shows/matches. The wifi was okay, not superfast but can do the job. The staffs were really nice and attentive. They surprised us with a nice fondant for our special occastion. A small downside was that the road to resort was not so good, and there might be small flood on the road during heavy rain day.

While we were only able to stay 2 nights, we had a lovely time. The room was beautiful, and the staff was helpful and friendly. I needed flowers to be placed in the room for my wife before our arrival, and the staff went above and beyond their normal duties to accommodate our late arrival and make us welcome. Very nice hotel!

Nice boutique resort but pricey?”

Nice little hotel next to the river, we've enjoyed our short stay, and breakfast with a sunny view on the river.

River Rai Relaxing”

Staff very helpful in making arrangements for our outings, making sure we were comfortable. This is a little distance from downtown Chiang Rai if that is your interest, but we were on a scooter so no bother to us. The food was very good, but expensive, so we generally ate away from the hotel, but that was part of the fun. They have a ride into town at night and a pick-up.

Food for lunch very overpriced and limited choices. Location a plus (quiet) and a negative (many taxis either refused to go or had no idea where it was.) Staff try very hard and largely succeed however problems with communication ( English ). Owner was onsite and very friendly.
