Right price point”
Everything was great. Restrooms are secured by key cards despite being shared. The area of downtown SF unfortunately is very unclean and full of homeless people going around. Just be careful during evening.
Good location, but awful environment!”
Make sure to survey the area (Tenderloin) of this hotel. Seriously I don't feel safe here at all. Drug addicts and dwellers right in front of the hotel entrance. Be prepared to walk past homeless people and addicts who ask you for cigarette and money. I even got followed by one guy into the hotel. Luckily, the staff was brave enough to chase him out. Checked out the same day I checked in.
Great stay at Minna. Very clean and tidy with handy extras in the room, sink, fridge & microwave. ”
Clean and tidy hotel. Lovely accomodating staff. Basic breakfast included. I thought shared bathrooms might be a pain but actually it was completely fine. Enough seperate toilets and shower rooms to share. Minor thing but I think it would have been handy to have a mirror in the room. Wifi worked well and the tv was also a bonus. Fridge and microwave give you a nice home comfort touch and you can self cater a bit easier. Paul
Hotel or is it a Hostel ?”
This Hotel is like a Hostel no a hotel, If you don't like sharing toilet or bathroom don't book here at this so called hotel ! Never mind I'm to Los Angeles and staying for 4 night on our old British Ship Queen Mary. D .J. B. from London Thank you.
A value hotel - everything except location is good”
Location itself is great since everything is in vicinity, so that it will be very nice to be taken as a basecamp for the solo travellers. However, the streets around this hotel is quite poor. It is safe but with a lot of homeless people, so that taxi drivers advised me not to walk around at late night. Nonetheless, this is reflected to the great deal this hotel offers. I satisfied quite much!
Good place to stay in SF”
I don't know why so many people said the area is bad. OK there are some homeless people around but it's not dangerous at all. At nights we were getting back to the hostel through mission street and could hardly see any homeless. The shower and bed linen were clean.
downtown, challenging to find parking, friendly staff”
the place was filthy. used socks under the beds, hair on carpet, toilets had grime. but the staff were super friendly and accommodating., made up for the dirty place. they were very helpful and gave a lot of information.
I like this hotel. Unfortunately there are few homeless outside and sometime they make a noisy”
But, I like it and has planning to stay in this hotel. There are coffee free and softdrink for 24 hours. Then there are microwave too. It is nice for guest who would like to eat at hotel. Some food restaurant are close to hotel.
Good but can improve”
The room per-se was fine but there was a horrible smell outside of the room which came from the carpet on the floor. Bathroom was ok although someone should constantly clean them. Breakfast very basic but ok. Staff was fine. Location wise, beware there will be lots of homeless people in the vecinity which could compromise your stay. We would always uber to the hotel just in case. Other than that you are very downtown which is great to move around the city and not pay a fortune.
Value for the money”
If you dont have very much of money, choose it. If you have, dont choose. So simple it is! What are the problems? 1)Awful neighbourhood: homeless people with drugs. Dirty and very noisy streets. 2) I suggest to owners to make an experiment: try to live in a room for one week. You will know what does mean if you dont have any place for putting your clothes, tooth brush and other items. If there is NO ONE hanger in the shower room! But the staff is very kind!
I loved the easy access to the buses, the homeless people kept to themselves, and the staff were very helpful. As a single woman traveling lone, I felt safe there. I also appreciated the reading lamp was fixed, access to an iron, and a nice continental breakfast. My only complaint was the shower drain was plugged, and even though I reported it, the drain was not unplugged during my days there.
Was nice! Foi legal!”
Actually, was very nice! I do recommend this hotel for everyone. The front staff was very kind and helpful. The room was little, but confortable. Whenever you want it clean, just let them know. The room has a sink inside, what helps manytimes. The restroom is shared. In spite of this, I had no problem with that. All the time that I used, the restroom were clean and nice. On the other hand, the location was kind of weird! But, Just ignore the people walking crazy on the street, and you'll be fine. And also, it was around three blocks away from the main street. That's fine. Just be aware.
Awful facilities and not safe”
First of all, the shared bathroom is nasty, and the bedroom smells terrible, but the window cannot be opened unless you put something on the window sill to support the glass. Something even worse is that the window glass doesn't fit the frame, so the glass tends to fall from and my room which on the fourth floor! Another safety concern here is about the door, I can only push it 45-60 degree open due to the uneven floor, and this situation not just happen to my room but also the shared shower. The worst hotel I've ever seen in my life. Please do not book this one for your own good.
My 2 kids & I were in SF for a weekend getaway. The Minna is located within a short walking distance to public transportation and Little markets. The price is very reasonable for where and what this hotel is. The front desk staff is very friendly & accommodating. Breakfast was nothing special but it was ready & there was really good coffee. Our room was on the 3 floor & right next to the bathroom. It was big enough for the three of us to stow bags & crash at night. It has a mini fridge, microwave, sink, & tv. It’s not fancy but we didn’t spend much time in it anyway. It was very noisy from slamming doors, talking through walls, and walking in the hall. The bathroom was large enough for me but if you’re very pregnant or a wide person, it may not be. It was not sanitized but was clean. The shower room was less clean. It’s really a closet that’s been converted into a shower. The water ran under the door and out onto the hall floor. The neighborhood is REALLY scary after 9pm.
Value for money”
Yes, location might be a bit intimidating but over-all nice, new, clean rooms. Even the shared rest room and bath rooms are squeaky clean too. With free breakfast too ! Would definitely stay here again :)
This is not a hotel. It’s a HOSTEL. Shared bathrooms, which is fine, you know that on booking, but the photos on AGODA are NOTHING like the property. My room was a dingy tiny room (403) two single beds pushed together for a double with no room to move, no fly wire on window, glass had to be propped open with the bin. An aircon in the room but disconnected. FILTHY STICKY carpet. Bathrooms are ok but you have to wait for ever for hot water to come thru! Location is not great. I paid $205 AUD a night, fully knowing it’s a 2 star property, but thought we would get something resembling the room in the picture!!! DO NOT BELIEVE the description on the booking sites!!!!
solid accommodation for a reasonable price ”
the personnel was always very forthcoming and helpful, the rooms are perfectly fine for the price (pretty dusty at the edges between the carpet and wall, but well, in that price range acceptable imo). breakfast was included and perfectly fine as well. union square area has some problems with the homeless people, but we never had issues and also left our "luxury" type rental parked right outside on minna street for one night without a problem. I would come here again.
Not the best, but cheap and did the job.”
Minna Hotel is in a very bad area of town. However, the hotel itself is very safe. You have to swipe a card to get into your building, elevator, room, and restrooms. The room is much smaller than the picture. There was no dresser and there was no screen in the window. There is also no A/C. The bathrooms felt dirty so bring shower shoes. There are towels provided but there are no paper towels in the bathroom. On the floor I stayed in, there was a bathroom with 2 toilets and 2 sinks, another bathroom with a shower, sink, and toilet, and another room with only a shower. There are no hooks to hang your towel or clothing in the bathroom and the floors feel dirty. Since we were only at this hotel everyday from 11pm-8am, it was worth the stay. You get what you pay for! If you are on a budget and don't mind dirtiness or small rooms, I would stay here. I do not recommend this for families. Also, the breakfast was very limited.
