Had a great stay at RIHGA Royal Hotel Kyoto. It was great that there was a shuttle bus for us when we got to the station but it didn't take long to realise it is literally around the corner from the station which made it easy to catch trains to visit areas of Kyoto. Beds were comfortable and breakfast was ok. The rooms were very large, clean with lovely amenities. The only disappointing thing I would have to say about this hotel is you have to pay to use the pool. We tried the teppanyaki restaurant at the hotel which was amazing (expect to pay though). We also found a fantastic teppanyaki restaurant just down the road.
Convenient big hotel, showing its age”
Great location, very convenient to walk to the Shinkansen as well as the local bus routes (note: no Japan Railway pass can be used on buses, need change). It looks old on the outside but the rooms are good/fine --> good value for money. Great restaurant choices nearby. Be careful catching the main bus route (205) to ensure you get on the correct side of the road as this route splits around the hotel area. Follow Google maps for bus routes.

We travelled to Tokyo in Mid-May and this was our favorite hotel experience. From the minute we walked up, we were greeted with kind smiles and the process was easy to check in. The room was clean, had wonderful light and had a tea pot for us to enjoy some green tea right away. Perfect walking distance from the train station and overall, great convenience. We highly recommend!
Clean and central hotel”
We had a family/dbl room with 2 queen beds and it had a central lounge area, nice big bathroom with separate toilet and entrance space so very generous compared to Tokyo hotels. Although near to train line, it was not noisy as the windows are sound proofed so we had a nice view of the bullet trains, and were very close to the central station and large shopping mall. The Hotel pool and gym are clean and well managed - the kids used the pool on their own every day and enjoyed themselves - the staff were helpful. a great experience here and would recommend for any traveler.

Pro’s - rooms were beautiful. We stayed in a Kyoto style room. The room amenities are superb and there is a box of goodies waiting in the bathroom for you. Staff were great and very helpful. There is a regular shuttle bus that takes you from the hotel to Kyoto station for free. Con’s - the WiFi is awful. Pretty much non-existent, which wasn’t a major issue as we weren’t there to use the internet all the time. The food restaurants within the hotel are very expensive, although delicious. The bar is very expensive compared to other hotels around Kyoto. expect to pay extra for the swimming pool and saunas etc at around 1650 Yen. We we very disappointed about this. They also expect all people that enter the pool to wear a black swimming cap. We refused to pay that price and wear the swimming cap so didn’t go for a swim. Overall - I would stay here again but I wouldn’t eat here purely for the price. There’s are great smaller places around the hotel which I would recommend.

3rd time stay in 2 years that mean something. Close to train station and Lawson. Room is nice, breakfast good! Have problem to call JR due to a lost item, happy that the concierge willing to make the call for me . Very polite and helpful. Definitely come back again!
Great experience ”
Hotel exceeded my expectations. While not located at the station, it is a short distance away and with the hotel shuttle buses running at short intervals, location was not a problem. Hotel staff was phenomenal. Rooms were spacious and well appointed. Very pleased. Third time staying there and have never been disappointed.
There is a shuttle service from Kyoto main station to the hotel every 15 minutes, though its within walking distance from the train station. Hotel is very luxurious. The only minor problem is the mini fridge not cold enough. Our ice cream melted inside it. Overall, we would love to return, if ever there is a chance.

The room was nice and the bathroom supplies were lovely. The staff were attentive and helpful. It's a shame you have to pay for the pool, with the rates you pay it seems un-necessary. The pool is nice but the spa is way too hot to be comfortable.
Great hotel facilities and staff”
It about 10mins distance from Kyoto station. Also, hotel provide shuttle bus services for each 15mins. The hotel inside design are great and the room also. It value to the price.

Fantastic Hotel in a Great Location”
This was one of the top hotels in which my wife and I stayed on our honeymoon in Japan. The staff were amazing and provided us with superb service from start to finish. The hotel from the lobby to our room was immaculately clean and beautiful. The room itself was spacious, well appointed, and comfortable. Another great thing about the hotel were the six restaurants inside. We never sat down to eat at any of them, except for breakfast, but we did order room service on our first night there because we were too wiped out from site seeing and traveling to go out. The food was fantastic and we were very satisfied. Before I forget, this hotel is well placed near Kyoto station which made it easy for us to access using our JR Rail Passes. To repeat myself, this was a fantastic hotel and among the top three hotels that we stayed in on honeymoon in Japan.
Room was spacious with excellent amenities. Staff were efficient and friendly. Shuttle bus to and from the Kyoto Station was very useful. My husband and I enjoyed our stay in this hotel very much.... Also the bed was super comfortable. Would recommend this hotel.
Great staff attitude but non-existent WIFI”
I left my phone in the hotel room after checking out and the staff was very helpful in assisting to get it sent back to me in my home country. I just wish you had better WIFI, if any!
Warm and friendly staff. Rooms are very comfortable with all the amenities we required. Can't beat the location for convenience and proximity to restaurants and train station. The breakfast buffet was wonderful.
Item missing from the room”
I have only bought 2 items during the kyoto visit and the night before we checked up, I realised a purse that I bought in Gion is missing. The shopping bag still standing nicely on the desk but the item is missing. Of course I understand hotel policy they do not compensate the missing Item. But I feel there is a need for me to file a complaint of the missing item. To my pleasant surprise, the personnel I dealt with suggest hotel will compensate for the value of the missing item. To be honest it wasnt a valuable product (only 2700 Yen). He asked for price and receipt. But it was late and I am lazy to go settle it on the spot i offer to get the compensation while i check out. But the next day, hotel refused to compensate and deny the offer they made. To be frank, I didn't ask for it in the first place and it was offered to me. it doesnt make me feel too good when i was rejected for something i was offered to me, the staff i dealt with was rather arrogant.
Hassle when checked in. Item missing from the room.”
There are alot hassle when we check in the room, the hotel got the booking all mess up and it took up a long time for everyone to get into our own room. E.g. putting the extra bed on the wrong rooms and with wrong quantity. New item missing from the room, only left an empty shopping bag on my desk.

Location-wise: It looks very close to the Kyoto Station however with a suitcase with 4 wheels and walked under the summer weather for 15-20 mins. It was a drainer. They offered shuttle bus service to Kyoto station however pick up point is south gate of the Kyoto Station. It takes a short walk in the station underground to be picked up. Unfortunately, I was not aware of where to be picked up when I first arrived to Kyoto Station. So I walked all the way to hotel 20 mins. Facilities and room decor: It was absolutely a 80s decor. Bathroom was old but still acceptable clean. I cannot image that there is NO USB at all. This hotel is situated in a "business suburb with Omron Corporation and Wacoal. It surprised me with that short of supply for USB charger. English communications were a bit not too good for front desk. Basically when I asked for help, they politely distracted without offering solutions. I took that as they are polite but seem they did not quite fully understand English
Good hotel ”
The hotel has free shuttle bus to Kyoto station. It is centralized station for many subway line. The shuttle bus is very convenient for us to travel from/to hotel and Kyoto station. Kyoto tower is just opposite the Kyoto station. Bear in mind, the Kyoto station is really huge with many levels. U might get lost to find your direction.

We booked a room for 4 pax and the room is big, enough space for 4 big luggages. Bed is comfortable. Hotel provided a complimentary bus to and fro hotel and Kyoto station which is a plus. Will stay again if we are back to Kyoto.
