Good value for price”
Royal Islander was a very good property in the sense that it was no frills, just a clean hotel with accommodations that fit four adults in a suite, had a kitchen, and was ocean front. Our ocean view was gorgeous, but I wouldn’t say the staff or facility was overly accommodating or exceptional. It had all the basic parts - a pool and access to beach. Really enjoyed the ThoMas more travel desk there to book excursions. The hotel concierge kept trying to sell us stuff at the other properties and we did not enjoy it. He kept selling while we clearly told him we were not interested in whatever benefits he kept pushing.
Moved to the Islander for just 3 days after a full week we own at The Sands. I wanted to stay longer! It is a beautiful resort - loved it! Even with the seaweed issue, I enjoyed the beach. Moved up to pool later in day - excellent. Food for breakfast and 1 great dinner Monday night in the Cayo Largo restaurant was lovely--service there is great. Loved the handy market, the laundry person was excellent, all in all a great couple of days. Thank you to all.
20s-30s Group of Ladies”
This hotel was beautiful and clean. Most of the guests are older and on time shares but that made for a quiet time. Very close to the nightlife but far enough to not hear it. Not far from the airport. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again!
relaxing and comfortable”
great place for the money. its more of a relaxing/family resort. no pool activities or resort activities. the rooms were very pleasant and warming...it has everything you need. there was this one guy that was working the front desk on the evening shift that was NOT very pleasant but other then that...a GREAT time i had
Love all the Royal Resort Hotels”
If you come to Cancun, stay at any Royal Resort. The shuttle takes you to each hotel for free, except on weekends. We take a shuttle somewhere and walk. Taking the bus is only 12 pesos or less than a dollar . Don’t rent car if there is only 2 people. Buying adventures online is cheaper than on the island. The Royal Resorts offer free kayak and mini boats. Double jet skii is only $40. Try the different restaurants in the different hotels. Your room key works like a credit card and you can use it at all hotels. Loved my trip
Loved it! But could of been more accommodating ”
This resort is beautiful! Absolutely loved it! However, my friend and I rented a room to only stay 7 hours in before we had to return home to the states. We were told that we could use our credit cards or Pesos to make purchases before we checked in and when it came down to it, we were only allowed to charge to the room which we did not want to do do to a group of us were paying separately. When attempted to get a cab for my friend we were harassed and questioned if we were checking out. I should be able to come and go from my hotel room without the third degree... the room is paid for, you have your money... it's none of the resorts business what I am doing as I come and go. They charge per person for guests who come and visit. I do like the resort, but it was a hassle. Def not like a hotel in the States. They question everything!
Excellent Beach Front and Friendly Resort”
The Royal Islander is a wonderful resort. The staff are very friendly, the suites are very clean and well taken care of and the view is spectacular from every room. We enjoyed sunning in the pool and at the ocean, always plenty of chairs and staff to provide cold drinks, if you wanted. They have sister resorts that you can visit on their free shuttle - we were there 12 days and enjoyed every day.
Lovely beachfront hotel”
First time in Cancun and enjoyed staying at the Islander. All staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. Beautiful beach and only a 1 mile walk on the sand to Playa Delfines. Would definitely stay again.
Good hotel in the Hotel Zone”
Located far enough away from the "party area" of the Hotel Zone to be peaceful, but close enough to be convenient. We stayed for 3 nights in March 2018, at $134 USD/night and I think that was a fair price for the amenities. Concierge was helpful and everyone was friendly. Located right in front of the beach, with a decent view from probably every room. Some resorts tout having a "private beach," but there are no such things in Mexico. We did not try the all-inclusive package or any of the restaurants. I recommend booking your transportation from/to the airport in advance (Thomas More requires 48 hours advance booking). Our round trip taxi for 2 people was $60 USD after some haggling at the airport. Booking with Thomas More would have been a little cheaper and less of a hassle.
The hotel is good-B. The staff is very good-B+. Agoda gets an F! I booked transportation from the airport to the hotel for my late arriving flight. They left me stranded. It cost over 2x normal cab fare + the original payment I made. I recommend booking on a different site and most definitely don’t book third party services.
Basic hotel for high price”
Pros: Clean room, friendly staff, plush soft towels. Cons: outdated appliances (toaster burned food rather than toasted), phone never worked, subpar restaurants onsite with tourist prices, confusing setup with stairs leading up and down to your room, added a donation charge to my bill without letting me know
Timeshare hotel with rude staff”
They would not let us check in until the timeshare sales associate talked to us. They put a $500 hold on your card and they charge your room to pay for restaurants or drinks. We only used the restaurant once. Everything is super far from this hotel. We would take the bus from the hotel to plaza forum for $12 pesos. The hotel has “complimentary” shuttle service but only to their sister hotels. Which is absurd especially if they e already charged fees for their facilities in your reservation.
Great place for relaxing in Cancun!”
Clean, relaxing place with very friendly staff.
We had a great time. Nice hotel!
Very nice and pleasant facility, and they maintain their property well. I found their grocery store on the premises a great benefit. Overall a satisfying experience!
Great place to stay ”
They rooms ar so nice and clean, great views and the staff goes out of their way to make sure your stay is a memorable one
this is a time share hotel so if you want connecting rooms or rooms near each other it's going to impossible
Hostile staff, including hotel manager Raul Dolores”
It is chilly in Cancun (early january). Room temperature is 70 F (21 C) inside the room and cooler outside, with a chilly wind. Turns out there is no heating in the entire hotel. I used the oven to heat the apartment in the evening and the next morning talked to Raul Dolores the hotel manager. His desk staff's and his position was (and I am not joking) that it is not part of their obligation to provide heat for the rooms. I proposed buying a small space heater, and he again confirmed that he felt no obligation to do this, had no interest in doing this, and would not help in any way in providing heat for the room. His desk staff even said, "Read the list of services provided by this hotel. Heating is not one of them." I have now written to the Regional Manager, Jesus Arguelles, to see if he cares or also doesn't care. Even the concierge staff were uninterested in helping me find a way to downtown Cancun, except for the older gentleman, Alejandro, who drew up a map of where to go to
Had to contact the hotel by phone because of something I forgot on my room and someone at the call center at 22:39 ended abruptly the phone call on my face. Very rude and unacceptable.
Very bad service Rooms are not clean No service after 11 pm
