clean, comfortable hotel in a central location”
This is a great location, close to the moat of the former palace and central for the main attractions in Mandalay. Short motor cycle or taxi ride to Mandalay Hill area in one direction or to U Bein's Bridge and Mahamuni pagoda in the other direction. Several local restaurants in neighborhood. Quiet at night. Rooms were clean and spacious with plenty windows and great views of the city from roof top terrace. We didn't eat in the hotel because we had an early boat departure but they provided us with a boxed breakfast which we appreciated.

Good value for money and exceptionally helpful stuff!”
I was staying in Royal City Hotel in Mandalay for a one short night arriving in the late afternoon to take 4am bus to Hsipaw. The hotel location was within 10min walk to the railway station, one block away from the Golden Palace, on the street with many restaurants just 10 min walk away. The hotel stuff was exceptionally helpful with the suggestions and the guy in the hotel even offered to give me a motorbike ride at 3:30am! Even though I said no need, he insisted he will do it. Very sweat people! The room quality was pretty good by Myanmar standards. Open views from the window. Shower was without the curtain though, just near the toilet. But if you are in Mandalay for a short stay it's really not a big deal. Internet connection was very good!

best thing about Mandalay: this hotel”
we didn't really enjoy Mandalay gut this Hotel saved our stay in the City. the staff is extremely friendly and willing to help at any time. we dropped a spoon at breakfast and 10 seconds later they came RUNNING with a new one. breakfast is amazing one of the best we had in Myanmar.there was even Papaya smoothie on sunday! and breakfast is served at the rooftop so you enjoy a nice view and fresh air. the rooms are spacious and comfy. 10 Points for this wonderful Hotel

clean, good size room, good location”
We stayed here for 2 nights and we would recommend this hotel for a stay in Mandalay. The rooms are clean, spacious and cosy with enough windows. The bathroom is typical Myanmar style were the shower is in de middle of the bathroom, but it has good waterpressure and hot water. Hotel staff is friendly and helpfull. Breakfast is mediocer. The Hotel arranged a driver for us for a whole day to take us around the Amarapura and other cities around Mandalay. Unfortunately his English was not very well. Internet is only available in the lobby downstairs, which is slow.

Friendly place in a great central location”
Located on a quiet street close to some good restaurants and the south wall of Mandalay Palace, it's location is hard to beat. The staff are really good and helpful: breakfast is in the roof restaurant with great views over the city and towards Mandalay Hill. Rooms are clean and functional, but the decor is dated, and the furnishings somewhat tired, the only things that are a negative.

We got what we paid for with smiles to boot.”
Quite location close to train station, Royal Palace and Mandalay Hill. We felt the Royal City Hotel delivered well for it's two star rating. The staff were delightful. Only complaint would be the breakfast was a bit ordinary compensated perhaps by the roof top views.

Royal City”
Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. Great location. Immaculately clean. Lovely breakfast on charming rooftop terrace. Spotless bathroom. Comfortable bed and decent amount of channels to watch on Tele. Oh and great air con. The staff take a lot of pride in presentation and service. Overall the best value for money in Mandalay and maybe even Myanmar. Wonderful.

Value for money.. Great staff”
Hotel has some great and helpful staff. Breakfast is nothing extravagant.. you can't ask much for that price. Hotel is bit old. Quite near to the mandalay palace area. We only stayed one night here. Don't expect much from the hotel . But certainly it was value for money.

Nice, comfortable and convenient”
The hotel is very competitively priced for Mandalay. It is close to the moat and the Palace, and also to major shopping precincts. The main train station is a short walk away as well. The staff are very helpful and allowed me to check-in quite early. The rooms are quiet, comfortable, with good TV and air-conditioning. Although not modern, it is very clean. For a few days I would recommend it.

A well run, comfortable hotel ”
Our standard twin room was on the top floor and had 5 windows. It had plenty of room and comfortable beds. The cable TV was adequate but the Internet was slow and unreliable (probably not the fault of this hotel). It had a "wet bathroom" with very hot water. We chose from the Burmese breakfast menu most mornings and enjoyed all the dishes a lot more than the standard eggs and sweet toast. We found a great bar/restaurant near Great Wall Plaza called Beer King. Above all the staff at Royal City made our stay very pleasant.

It was a brief but pleasant stay.”
The hotel is a fair budget choice. It has all the basics, is clean and has good staff. The rooms are a little odd with the thrown-togeter decor and strange bathroom layout but for an affordable price in the second largest city in Myanmar, it was perfect. Getting around Mandalay at night without transport is also difficult so it is good that this place is within walking distance of both Burmese and foreign food resturants.

great location and staff”
If I'm honest, I'm not sure where the best areas in Mandalay are. I can say that I was happy with this location though. The hotel is great. Good, free internet (which you don't often find in Myanmar) and a bar just down the street which also serves food :) Really would recommend this place.

Lovely, pleasant”
Stay was comfortable and friendly. the AC didn't work at the time, but anyway, the fan was enough for me. The view of sunrise was surprisingly lovely from the 5th floor window, overlooking the city. The breakfast was nice, bread, eggs and fruit which is standard Myanmar hotel breakfast in hotels. The staff were lovely, helpful and efficient. It was in a good location and just round the corner was a nice restaurant - BB's (or something like that).

Good place to stay in Mandalay”
Nice hotel with confortable rooms and a lovely place on the roof for breakfast. The staff is amazing; there is always two or three people to provide you anything you need. They arranged a lot of details (rent a motorbike, reservations for taxi and boat) that have made our stay much easier. Quite expensive as most of the hotels in Myanmar but with the current prices, it remains a good deal.

Money was the issue”
I really wanted to like this hotel, but the money thing spoiled my stay. The bills were presented in dollars and every other hotel or restaurant would accept 1,000 local for $1, which is good for the hotel since $1 equals 972 local. So a 1,000 local already gives the proprietor an exchange rate benefit. Royal City wanted 1,100 local for $$1, which made using local currency punishing. That was just greedy and made me more critical of the little things. My room was ok but there were three little changes in floor level that kept causing me to either stumble or stub my toe. The bathroom plumbing was more like a cheap hotel than a $100 a night place. My first choice was the hotel next door, the Bagan Thande, but it was booked solid. The Royal City was virtually empty, and now I can see why. I ended up taking meals and drinking at the Thande since the prices and exchange rates at Royal City were so unfriendly.
