Excellent hotel”
Chiang Mai is only a 3 hour flight from my home in Singapore so it's very convenient for short breaks. Royal Lanna is well located in the heart of the Night Bazaar area so it's very convenient for shops, markets and restaurants not too mention the famous night bazaar with its hundreds of stalls. It has a swimming pool which is both adult and child friendly and it's clean and well maintained and ideal for sunbathing and having a dip. The rooms are big, spotlessly clean and although not important to most tourists I would have prefered a more modern TV as we do not go out at night. It's perhaps an issue the hotel could consider although for most tourists its not important as they will be out and about at nighttime. The buffet breakfast is extensive, catering for both Asian and Western tastes. The food is fresh everyday and it's so tasty we tended to overeat. For the first time we used the hotel coffee shop which I would describe it as a "hidden jem". The food menu is excellent, it's presentation is very skilful and thoughtful which makes a very refreshing change to the rough and ready service and overcooked food you will experience at the nearby pubs and restaurants. The Royal Lanna is not the most modern hotel but it has a timeless quality and classy atmosphere .... it is an elegant hotel as can be observed by relaxing for a while in it's magnificent foyer .... very stylish The reception staff are both efficient and friendly and it's a pleasure checking in and having a wee chat. Usually we book a superior room but this time we decided to treat ourselves and booked a deluxe room for 200 bhat more per night. But really other than adding an armchair it provides no added value over the superior room which is the same in all other respects ... so go for the superior room and have a nice meal in the coffee shop with the saving.
Great Location half block from night market”
Great value for the money if you stay at the Royal Lanna Hotel. I wish I would have stayed here for all 3 of the nights I visited Chang Mai. The next two nights I stayed at the Ban Sabai Village Resort & Spa at a rate of four times the rate of the Royal Lanna Hotel and it was a total disaster. Don't EVER stay at the Ban Sabai Village Resort & Spa. It is the MOST over priced, dirty filthy, in the middle of nowhere. Don't let the name fool you ... the Ban Sabai Resort is NOT a resort of any kind ... we checked in at 2pm and could not use our bathroom until 2am since black dirty water came out of every facit including the toilet. The bedspread had a blood stain from a women's period and there were bugs running around the room. Save yourself a bunch of money and grief and stay at the well priced, well located Royal Lanna Hotel instead. You'll be glad you did.
Great Location, big room, exellent services.......”
we travel to chiang mai and chiang rai for 5 days ( 3 nights at chiang mai and 1 night at chiang rai ).... we arrived at 17th august at night, the night bazaar is only a few steps from the royal lanna hotel, and we can easily find some foods and shop until midnight.... it was great to stay at royal lanna because the receptionist help us a lot, we left our luggage when we go to chiang rai the next day , and we check in 19th august back to the royal lanna hotel until 21st august..... but when we stay there the hotel is under renovation so that we cannot use the swimming pool... but that's ok, still if we have plan to go to chiang mai again, we surely will stay there again ....
Great location loads of entertainment”
it was great to have stayed at royal lanna hotel, chiang mai. the hotel is located right in the center of night bazaar which was really awesome. we walked all around night bazaar and was tired but the hotel was close so it was great to come back and rest after long fun walk/shopping.
Probably the best hotel considering value of money”
We stayed in this hotel for four nights. The hotel is located at the center of Night Bazaar which makes very easy access of all kinds of restaurant and great shopping. From my room at 9th floor, the city view with mountain was great. Internet speed was very fast and free of cost. Good parking facility. Both hot and cold water with a bath tub was available. The room was big and spacious but there was a few furniture in the room. No minibar with coffee/tea facility was available. A refrigerator with some chocolates was there. Two bottles of water per night was free of cost. All other things are chargeable. There was limited breakfast items. No security safe/cabinet. However at THB 1100/night including all taxes and services charges, our staying in Royal Lanna hotel was great and highly recommended.
Chiang Mai holiday ”
We love the Royal Lanna and have stayed there many times the breakfast is good but don't be late because after 9 they start to wind up. The tour desk is good and reliable and the rooms are extremely well maintained . There's no better location in Chiang Mai than the Royal Lanna,it's right in the very center of where you want to be. Pool isn't big but definitely adequate and like the rest of the hotel is extremely well maintained . I will definitely stay there again
Convenient Location in heart of the Night Bazaar”
Upon arrival into Chiang Mai we were actually supposed to stay at a different hotel but there was a problem with our room so we were put up in one of the suites at the Royal Lanna. The suite was very spacious and included a kitchen, dining table, living room area and separate large bedroom. If you can afford it I would definitely upgrade to one of their suites. After the first night we decided to switch to one of their deluxe rooms which was still a good size but was fairly basic. I was a bit surprised that the rooms did not include a safe for passports and other valuables but I believe they have safety deposit boxes at the front desk. The bathroom shower was a bit interesting in that it had a window that faced into the bedroom with wooden slatted blinds. I'm not sure why they designed it this way as it really didn't serve any purpose. Also, the way the tiling around the tub was done water would travel onto the floor making the floor all wet. Not a big deal but more of a nuisance. Our room at it's own small water heating unit that would activate when the hot water was turned on. It did an adequate job of providing endless hot water. Overall we were satisfied with the room. The staff was extremely helpful on all occasions and in one instance when we had issues with our A/C in our room they took care of the issue promptly. One thing to note is that the pool is very small and there are not many lounge chairs around it. If lounging by the pool is important to you I would probably pick a different hotel. Oh and one more thing... the bed in the suite was much more comfortable than the bed in the Deluxe Room. I found the bed in the Deluxe room to be very stiff and it make it slightly difficult to sleep sometimes.
Great Location, good service...”
We are italian resident in thailand, live on an island in the south of thailand go to Chiang Mai for a week end and stay on the middle of everything as in Royal Lanna is a pleasure. we like be there for the kindness of the staff, hotel give free wifi internet and it's quite difficult to find in those big hotel. Nice room a wonderfull bath...and just 5 steps from 7/11 (how didnt know is a small market selling everything open 24 hour) our 2nd home....be back again and again.
Great Hotel in a great location”
fantastic location right in the heart of the night bazaar district, the hotel is really well maintained.the pool is excellent and very very clean.excellent choice at breakfast and really friendly and helpful staff with a good tour desk in the lobby.loved the scenic elevator, with it's all glass sides that lets you look out on all the night life on the way down.we love chiang mai and we love the royal lanna.we were only going to stop there for 4 nights but we changed our plans and stayed for 10.we will definately be going back there again
Good value functional hotel”
good value hotel which is located at the chiang mai night bazaar. had a pleasant surprise when i first entered the room. i had expected an old run-down hotel but the room was clean and modern. the shower stall is separated from the room by a large glass window equipped with retro wooden blinds. cool! the room was kind of elongated with space for coffee table. i read some comments about internet connectivity issues but my experience with the room wifi connection is entirely pleasant. i was able to access the internet without any problems and the connection speed was good. the breakfast spread the next morning was expansive. there's the usual american breakfast, eggs cooked to your specifications, porridge (rice soup - which was rather bland) and selection of fruits.
Return Trip”
6 years ago we bought our family for a holiday to Chiang Mai and chose the Royal Lanna Hotel for service, pricing and location. Once again all our expectations were meet and the buffet breakfast was excellent.
Great hotel in a great location.”
We spent 3 nights at this hotel. The staff were superb, very welcoming, helpful and friendly. On our arrival, we were given a room which was not too good - however the manager promised that we will be given what we requested for - high floor & king-sized bed - the next day as such rooms were already occupied when we checked in. He kept to his promise and we were glad cos the first room was really not up to standard. Besides the staff and the excellent room service, the hotel is located at a most central spot especially for shopping. Just about 300 meters away is the night bazaar! Also food is easily available - local as well as international fast food (there's McDonalds and Burger King a stone's throw away). Breakfast was superb - excellent spread of local and western buffet. Will definitely stay at the Royal Lanna again.
Excellent Location but Weary Hotel”
The Royal Lanna is ideally situated by the Night Bazaar. There are numerous restaurants (both western and Thai) within walking distance with Burger King, McDonalds, Subway and Starbucks literally around the corner. You can shop to your hearts content with shops galore surrounding the hotel. It's also a relatively short distance to the central square where the Sunday Walking Market is located. Tuk-tuks, taxis and songtaews are easily found all around the hotel so traveling around the city is very easy. The hotel itself though is a little tired. The rooms look old with big box TVs, slightly stained and tattered sheets an the bathrooms also had chips in the floor and the bathtub. Also there was hair on the floor in the bathroom upon check-in. Also, I had asked for two beds and the Front Desk gave me the key to a room, went up and there was one double bed. Went back down and told them this one had one bed so they gave me another key, went up to a new room, and again just one bed. I went back down and said this one also had just one bed. At least third times the charm as the third room finally had the two beds. Also we had two lights burn out in our room during our stay. We called the Front Desk and asked if someone could come up and change them. They said yes so we left for the day. When we got back that evening the lights were not fixed yet so I called again...then they sent someone up to fix it. Would I stay there again, probably not. I'm sure there are other places in that same price range that are in better shape and still easily accessible to that area.
Big rooms & perfectly located”
The Royal Lanna is a perfectly located hotel right in the middle of the Night Bazaar, perfect for the shopaholic. This hotel has really large rooms so you don't feel confined. The best feature for me is my favorite restaurant, The Red Lion, is right out front.
Wish the hotel could be better.”
Having stayed in a different hotel in chiang mai, I truly appreciated the location of Royal Lana hotel. Just right in the heart of the night bazaar with lots of restaurant and massages nearby. Bars aren't too far away either. The entrance to the hotel was pretty grand and being one of the taller buildings in the vicinity, it offered a great view of the city. However, upon entering the room, I felt as though I stepped back in time and was entering a room in the 90s. Everything felt old in the room, with the interior design, TV, aircon, furnishing and lighting similar to that of the 90s. With all that said, the room was generally clean and livable. Aircon and hot water working well. Unfortunately, no in-room safe. But they compensated that with safety boxes at the reception. The room doors were also pretty flimsy with only a knob lock for the door. The buffet breakfast was good, really enjoy it. Staff were friendly and willing to help. Also have a private carpark in case you're planning on renting a bike. I really do hope they renovate and modernize the rooms a little and make some changes to the doors and upgrade to keycards instead of the traditional key with huge room number keychains. This would make Royal Lana a great place to stay in Chiang Mai.
Lovely Hotel very helpful staff”
The rooms were of a good size for 2 adults comfortably, with all amenities needed in the room. Breakfast at the Royal Lanna Coffee shop is excellent, a-la-cart everyday something different or have them cook your own choice of omelette. Having the Night Bazaar's starting right our the front of the hotel and continuing for blocks makes strolling at night enjoyable and exciting. You can even walk (20 minutes)down to the flower, fish and local markets to buy things even more cheaper than the Bazaar's.
Great location just in the middle of everything!”
This hotel is an awesome value for money. Although the rooms are a bit oldish, I didn't see this as a problem. Room I stayed was a very large with good selection of TV channels. Still the main attraction of this hotel must be the location. Famous Chiang Mai Night Bazaar is just at your doorsteps and 24 hour McDonald's, if you require some late night food is just next door. Next time I'll definitely be back at Royal Lanna!
Perfect location for Night Bazaar”
we stayed at this hotel on the recommendation of friends and it proved to be as good as promised. the hotel has been around for a few years but i saw that they are slowly updating the rooms. nevertheless our room was very good. big room with very comfortable bed and good bathroom. tv was an older crt type but worked fine. the aircon worked well but was a bit noisy but didnt interupt our sleep. the hotel is located in the heart of the night bazaar area which made it very easy for eating out, shopping or travelling around the great city of chiang mai. buffet breakfast was great with excellant brewed coffee. will be back again for sure.
Good value hotel in a great location. Free WIFI”
We enjoyed our stay at the Royal Lanna. The rooms, although dated and a little dull were clean and very spacious. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was sufficient but a little poor in the choice department. It suited us to be close to Night Market and still have a quiet location. We did opt for a Deluxe Room on a higher floor.[This may have helped} Air conditioner worked well. We have stayed at other hotels such as the Centara on previous visits, but the lack of free WIFI there made us try the Lanna this time. We were pleasantly surprised. We also got an "early bird" discount through Agoda, making it excellent value.
Comfi and central”
Great stay at the Royal Lanna - good value for money, also because the wifi is for free. But the internet in the room was good for the first 3 days, after that got really bumpy and by the 6th day non-existant. For the rest the hotel is in the middle of the buzzing night bazaar, but is high and quiet enough to find rest too (especially with small kids). So we would come back to Ryal Lanna, if they fix their internet.
