A Good Spot in a Quiet Town”
Nong Khai doesn't get a great deal of tourist traffic, its chief claim to fame being that it's one end of the Friendship Bridge connecting Thailand and Laos. That said, one could easily while away a couple of pleasant days in this sleepy riverside town, where excellent food, great massages and plenty of greenery are all readily available. Should you choose to do so, the Royal Mekong Nong Khai Hotel can provide an intriguing experience to be sure. Nearly empty during my late September stay (as it apparently is most of the time), the hotel offered perhaps the largest room I've ever stayed in, complete with a fine view of the Mekong River and Laos just across it, a huge swimming pool, plenty of places to sit and relax and a truly satisfying American-style breakfast. I am told that the Royal Mekong is up for sale, alas, which isn't surprising considering how few guests it seems to attract; those of you heading for Nong Khai are advised to pay it a visit while you still can.

Good for car travellers”
The Royal Mekong Nongkhai Hotel is a large complex with a Convention Centre, located 2-3 kilometres from the city centre. It is ideal for car travellers with plenty of parking space, but not really suitable for travellers without their own transportation. The hotel is used by many coach companies taking tourist for trips to Vientiane in Loa. The north facing rooms all have good views of the Mekong River. There is also an excellent swimming pool popular in the late afternoon.

beautiful view of mekong river”
The room had a good view of the Mekong River and swimming pool from the window which was locked so could not get a good photograph. The room was spacious, but no tea or coffee making facilities. The hotel meals were quite expensive so I went outside for a meal locally. The swimming pool is not heated and was quite cold for swimming. The tw channels flickered because there was no proper reception and only 2 had English. There was no buffet breakfast cooked to order American Breakfast. The hotel is a bit out of town, so you need transport to get to Nong Khai itself.

Sweet old lady”
This is a lovely, but dated hotel over looking the Mekong. The room size was excellent, but they need to replace the beds (old and he staff was courteous and helpful.

Great View!”
We enjoyed the view of the river from the 5th floor with a view of Friend Ship bridge and Laos and the sunrise. The room was large and comfortable. Very few hotels in Thailand have bathtubs which we took full advantage of. It was a 4 star hotel 20 years ago. During our stay I counted seven staff members. All shops, exercise room, and bar were closed the entire time. The internet never worked and the front desk did not attempt to repair it. I would stay here again.

great view mekong river and bridge”
The hotel is clean and comfortable with a reasonable breakfast but most of it was very spicy. Fantastic view of the Mekong River and the friendshp bridge, but you need a car to visit Nong Khai.

A nice getaway for me n the wife”
My wife and I really enjoyed ourselves. Yes, it is old and tired, but it was also clean and pleasant too. It is def a mark to a day long passed and it shows, but enjoy its history and other offerings. We'll go back, it was pretty cheap too. Beats most of the stuff in Nong Khai in terms of character and charm anyway. We say do IT!If you're in a car, theres a great restaurant about 3 miles up the road toward the Lao border. Eat there before you arrive to the hotel. You can't miss it, on the right side, hige beautiful wooden restaurant, fancy lights and all. Great great food.

Good location and value”
This was a nice, but very outdated hotel. Turns out they never got my reservation I made on Agoda and said they didn’t use Agoda, but they had plenty of room. I think I would try to stay at a newer place next time I’m in that area.

lovely view of mekong river”
The bathroom is clean and the shower was only hot when I complained at reception, who fixed the problem. The TV reception was terrible, I found only one English channel which hed bad reception. They sent a guy to fix the problem but the pictuer was still not good. This must be the only hotel where you are given a usernam and password for the internet, and it expires after you have used it for a short time. So if you use the Internet for business then you have problemd. Breakfast was very good buffet style which was enjoyable. The swimming pool was full of stones and around the outside of the pool you had to be careful walking in bare feet as there was glass and stones all over the place and no oe cleaned the pool at all.

Far from The Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge”
Its a good place to stay if you arrive late by car in Nong Khai and cannot cross the bridge that night. As its far from the town you either need your own car or a taxi to get there (5km). Staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast serves it purpose with an array of different choices which even westerners will enjoy. Hotel is old, so do not expect a new hilton or dusit. I am sure when it was first opened it could have been compareble to them

not a pleasant experience”
My booked room was unclean and not made up from the prior guest. The next room had no internet access despite them advertising internet, and only Thai channels on TV. Not what I would expect for the price. Internet would cut in and out every few minutes, very frustrating. The restaurant had none of the basic Thai food dishes that were on the menu.

Dirty room, dirty corridors, full of dust.”
Magne from Norway. This hotel smells old. Also smells dust. You can feel the dust in your nose at all time. The room walls were very dirty, carpets on the floor should be thrown out long time ago. The paining under left side of window is falling off, too the floor. The furnitures very old and worn out. Carpet in coridors were full and dust along the walls. The table-cloths in the restaurent were also dirty. We did not eat in that restaurent, only little bit breakfast. I will not come back to this hotel. We only stayed there for one night and that was enough.

Old Pictures”
The pictures on the internet were at least 25 years old. Images were not representative of the reality. Swimming pool area is grubby. The place is very old and in need of refurbishment.
