good again, top-value in CM for single traveller”
It was my third stay at this hotel, and as I have been staying in more than 15 different places in CM over the year, I know where I can get great value for money. Depends what kind of traveller you are. If you are one of those who prefers to stay at tiny, dark, worn rooms in "guesthouses", and think this is the "spirit of CM", then the PANERAI is not for you. But if you prefer clean and top-value NON-NONSENSE-accommodation, then the PANERAI is a very good choice. particularly for single traveller, as booked through agoda you can opt for single occupation, which makes the room even cheaper (as there is only one breakfast included then). really, for that amount of money you will not get any better value for money, considering the fact that the WiFi is now FREE (last time I stayed there was hundred THB per day if I remember that right), and there is a pretty decent breakfast-BF included - just keep in mind that 95% of the guests are Thais and the food is geared towards them. The rooms are of a decent size, spotless, good-sized bathroom. mattress firm but not as hard as a rock. Locationwise it is a stone-throw away from the SRIPHUM-corner of the moat, where shared Sawngthaews and TukTuk can be hailed down almost immidiately. About 15 minutes walk to Thapae Gate, if for some reason you want to hang out at the tourist-Ghetto. The breakfast is usually being served in their sister-property Royal Peninsula (which is more expensive and not half as good value as the Royal Panerai), a walk of about 200 Meters down the road, which should not bother you at all. I actually planned to stay 4 nights, but could only stay 3 nights, as it was full the last day of my stay in CM. Full on a regular weekday - this says all. If you are not scared to mingle with local guests and don't require to stay at Tourist-Ghetto accomodation, I strongly recommend this great Non-Nonsense Hotel. Easily the best Value for money in CM for a single traveler, and I will be back next time for sur
fantastic price/value Hotel”
i had a great stay in royal panerai considering the eleven euros paid i got a clean big sized room with all comfort and well maintained.i travel a lot in thailand and this was by far the best deal i ever got in a bigger city. the rooms a clean and the beds are comfi.even i arrived early the friendly staff let me check into my room with no hassle.location is quite but in the middle of the city.i know prices can vary a lot during season but if you reach a deal of 1x euro than this is the place to stay in chiang mai.
Ooooppss, I did it (extended the stay) again”
and yes, i extended my stay again for a further day, so here we go again: as previously announced, i again had to travel to chiang mai and again chose the panerai for its extraordinary good value for money (room only). no other place in chiang mai offers such decent 3-star facilities for such a low rate of just little more than eleven euro. free wifi worked again, and the staff was friendly as always. for a more detailed review, just scroll down a little to read my earlier reviews of may 2012.
Great deal on a hotel close to the city”
We loved our stay here! We were used to budget accommodation, mostly hostels, and for the same price, we were able to get a nice, large hotel room with nice bathroom, air conditioning, and a refrigerator. They happily stored our luggage for us after we checked out. As an FYI, there are two FX Hotels in Chiang Mai, so remember that this is the Royal Panerai. If you get it wrong (we did), they are only a block or two apart so you can walk!
top-value for money during low season in all of cm”
i have stayed at royal panerai several times before and always found it top-valur for money. first i was not so happy when i learned that furama has taken over the hotel just weeks ago, as i know its ceo jason peck loves to impose ludicrous charges on even the most basic amenities (internet), but then it turned out that the in-room-wifi is still free. hotel and rooms are not new, but well-maintained. the staff is very friendly, location is okay for me, as the hotel is located at the sri-phoom-corner of the moat, where u can easily hail down a sawngthaew or tuktuk. i would have loved to have a kettle in the room, but at less then eleven eu ro per night, room only, this would probably have been too much to ask for. this hotel will continue to be my favorite place if i want an inexpensive place to stay in a good location, without forgoing some essential amenities that you usually can not find in cheapo-guesthouses. strongly recommended, at least during low season when the room-rate is ludicrously low.
ooooppss, i did it (booked it) again”

Best value hotel”
the royal panerai offers sometimes very good deals, prices a vary a lot so my comments are considered on a room rate of ten eur. and for that you get the best value for money in cm if not in thailand. roooms are of big size beds are comfortable and even the hotel is located close to the city center you are granted a quite good night sleep. staff is friendly and i would always stay for this rate again. internet had some interruptions.
A wonferful stay”
Our stay at Royal Panerai Hotel was a right move. The hotel provides free wi-fi, two bottles of free water everyday, the rooms are huge, and it is in good location, right at the northeast corner of the old city, and they have nice staff, always smiling. The breakfast included in our room rate was ok, not great, but sufficient for us. The roomrate was very good too. Except there was a few mosqidos(how to spell?) in the room, need to spray everynight before going to bed, nothing negitive we could think about.
Excellent Value for money and friendly people”
i wonder why this place is not more popular. staying at 30-40 different hotels in asia every year, i have a certain knowledge what to expect and what is good value for money, and usually i am quite a critical reviewer, this place offers excellent value for money. the location is not exactly in downtown, but just a 3-minute walk away from the cornber fo the moat at sriphum, from where u can easily hail down a tuktuk or sawngthaew. thapae gate is a leisurely 15 minutes troll away. rooms are big and clean, though a little dark. bed big and good mattress. wifi costs 100 baht per day. a lovely breakfast buffett is included, which will usually being served in the sister-hotel royal peninsula, a further 200 meters down the road. staff is friendly. as the hotel is set back a little from the main road, there is no real noise annoyance. strongly recommend this place for visitors who know how to get around in chiang mai and therefore can bear the fact not to stay inmidst of the tourist-trap-area
Our stay in Royal Panerai, was very satisfying, my parents enjoyed the place. I will keep on coming to this hotel, because i find it's very worth it. So if you want to visit Chiangmai, consider staying at Royal Panerai, it's worth your money. You can also find friendly staff ready to help you any time.
A little hidden but a lot for the money”
I've stayed at the Royal Panerai on two different occasions now. The value for the money cannot be beat. Rooms are a wonderful size as are bathrooms which is certainly in contrast to many of the budget oriented establishments with good locations in nearby areas of Chiang Mai. Service staff are knowledgible and polite. It's also great to have a Seven-Eleven Convenience Store just around the corner.
Friendly staff, clean room, nice location”
The Royal Panerai Hotel is a nice place to stay. The checking in was easy and the staff were polite when they had to tell me they were fully booked the following day. I did have to walk to the partner hotel for food but it was decent enough, but for 119 baht it could be a little tastier. The room was clean and the hotel is located close enough to Tha Phae Gate to be convenient and far enough to be quiet. I would stay here again.
Great location with lovely service”
nice hotel with great location just turn right at the corner, then you are in the old city area also, the airport pick up is so comfortable with affordable price the wifi is free of charge, n there s a computer available at the lobby however, if you want a twin-bedroom, you might stuck only on the 2nd floor, which is not a nice scenery. all in all, royal panerai is great for everyone.
Pleasant stay, in a conveniently located hotel”
The hotel room was comfortable, the staff was polite, the location is good (about 800 meters from the Chiang Mai inner city wall. Since the hotel has no restaurant, it is good to look around for restaurants soon after arriving. I would recommend getting the breakfast at the sister hotel (Royal Peninsula) about 100 m away from the hotel. I would be happy to stay again at the hotel.
Royal Panerai Chiang Mai”
The Royal Panerai while not central is still not too far from the centre of things. It's about a 10-minute walk to Tapae Gate and about a 20-minute walk to the Night Bazaar. Rooms are very good value for money, being very clean and spacious with Satellite TV and minibar. The breakfast buffet is good for those who like Thai food but there could be a bit more selection of western food. Overall, though, a very good place to stay in Chiang Mai.
I had a chance to catch up on much needed rest my return trip to Thailand. I suspect the Royal Penninsula and the Royal Panerai are sister hotels within in a few feet of each other! Great places to stay!!! I hope they keep up the great work!
Royal Paneray Hotel”
The hotel is right outside the city walls of Chiang Mai with a very short walking distance to the center to explore temples. It appears that the hotel has been recently built. The room was very large and spatious. The hotel staff was very friendly. There is a tour desk next to the reception with a large variety of tours, where a friendly gentelman can arrange tours and hikes. The hotel has airconditioned van taxies that are more comfortable than tuk tuk and cost only 20 bat more. They offer the same price of 100 bat to the bus station and the airport. The only con is that the breakfast is quite poor.
Nice hotel near Old Chiang Mai”
Our stay was pleasant. Hotel staff was very nice and accommodating. Internet was reasonably priced. Amenities in room were good. (Hair-dryer is in the desk drawer and it is chained there, with no mirror within the chains reach.. you can always unscrew it) 7-Eleven was right near the hotel, but breakfast was at the other hotel down the street (not even a block away). Old Chiang Mai was literally around the corner but be prepared to play Frogger as you try to cross the street. And as long as you don't jump in front of a car or bike, they slow down to let you cross, just do it quickly!
Big, Clean Hotel. Well Located.”
Royal Panerai is an all-round decent place to stay in Chiang Mai. The rooms are comfortable, the price is usually decent and the Hotel is well located right at the North-Eastern corner of the Old City. This place make is easy to get to Muang Mai Market, Thapae Gate, The Old City etc... whilst not being in a noisy, party area.
Thanks Agoda & Royal Panerai Hotel, I enjoyed my stay at Chaing Mai. Will use you again if I travel somewhere.
