Royal Park Hotel and Hostel

Room was nice. Shower light was out but not the end of the world. The vending machine on our side/floor of the building was out of water but we just went to the other side to get a bottle. The elevators took a really long time to arrive at your floor. The area is very nice, easy walk to the underground metro and lots of shops and parks in the neighborhood. The staff was also very nice and accommodating.

My friends and I stayed in the Hotel in November. I loved the hotel, the staff is friendly and veru helpful the manager is amazing, they let us leave our bags before the check in for $2. The room had a lot of space, the bed was good and very clean. The best part about this hotel besides all above is definitely the location, its super close to the Central Park (only 3 blocks) and great location Upper West Side, close to restaurants, pharmacy, grocery stores and the Metro station is only 1 block away! Its not fancy, its very simple, but if you are looking for great location, nice clean place on a budged this is definitely for you.

Room with owne bathroom. On first floor, View a wall on the building next to mine. This room had no heating and in April I say it's cold inside. Friendly staf. Walking distance to Central Park, subway in the next block, I think it's ok if you only need a place to Sleep,

It was a great accommodation, very reasonably priced. The staff are friendly, and always very helpful in tourist information and advice on anything. This hostel is probably best for it's location because it's extremely near to the MTR, so it is easy to go anywhere. Also, there is walgreens, macs and supermarkets nearby that makes this is an excellent hostel especially for young adults who would appreciate such convenience with such a relative low price paid for the hostel. I would strongly recommend this hostel

This isn’t a hotel, it is a building of rooms that most likely used to be apartments and can be rented long term, it doesn’t feel safe with the lock, no lock box, people coming in and out . The room was fine, comfortable bed, good shower. Little ementiries other than that. For the money, hotels in midtown are better.

This hotel is the best value for money we've found. NYC is expensive and The Royal Park is clean, the staff is polite and the area is not dangerous (but also not in mid-town). The cable TV is not the full package, the wifi is not strong enough to stream a video and there are no fancy little soaps in the bathroom (just regular soaps). But the price is reasonable, and so we've come back here.

We just finished a 6 night stay at this hotel and we were very happy with it, particularly for the price in comparison with other hotels in manhattan. The location is good - near Central Park and just an express subway ride away from Times Square. Most of the hop on hop off buses also go two blocks away. The rooms were great - decent size, queen bed and hanging space for clothes and we had two large suitcases open the whole time on the floor also. Still had extra space to move around. Nice bathroom. Our room also had nice exposed brick walls which was lovely. Super helpful staff also - each time we asked for directions they printed a map for us. Would definitely recommend if looking for an affordable comfortable place in NYC.

Budget Hotel with great location and helpful staffs. everythings good, but the building is so old. EVERYTIME when we have to use a hair dryer, the power goes off. me and my family even unplugged every thing (TV, fridge...etc), but the power still went off. :( I suggest some of the facilities need to be refurbished.

What can I say except to lower your expectations! We got a 2 twin bed room and the mattress must have been 20 years old cause I could feeeel the springs in the bed and hear them as well! So uncomfortable! It was like they put the thinnest layer of padding and called it a bed. No real blanket but I can understand why- there’s no Air Conditioning so it was HOT hot hot when it’s 40/50 degrees outside. Felt like 80s inside even with window open. Ah yes our window was open upon entering our room, there was no screen so bugs probably crawled in some where as birds could have flown in. Shared bathroom was the size of a tiny walk in closet. Water pressure was way off and the cold water in the sink kept turning on/off when it was turned on. There’s no ice machine. Wouldn’t book here again.

Great location, good value for money but most of all the staff were so friendly and very helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. We enjoyed our short stay there and would definitely stay there again. Steve and Nancy from Exeter England

To begin with, the Hotel was a block away from the 96th (Red 123) Subway which was perfect for easy transportation. The Hotel itself looked representable near a 7 eleven for convenience. Now onto the Hotel, the staff was acceptable and very nice. We requested a microwave and fridge which they certainly accepted to place in our room. The elevator was very old and slow, so I recommend anyone to take the stairs from wasting any time. We got bunk beds for the first day because the booking was packed. It was very claustrophobic, like an extremely small walk in master bedroom closet. The restroom on the other hand was shared so we had to wait an hour to shower, go to the restroom, or to wash hands. The walls were very thin which made sound viable outside. The next day we got a bigger room with a full size bed (called a double room). The room was very tidy and nice for the floor plan overall came with a booger on the side of the bed. We woke up the next day and my daughter had pink marks all over her body. It was confusing because we couldn’t recognize if it was from bed bugs or if she got chicken pox. When I mentioned that I requested a microwave and fridge, they still hadn’t placed it in our room so I had to go downstairs to request again. The WiFi was absolutely horrible. And my daughter has even more spots after 3 nights. Not to mention, when we placed our drinks in the fridge, we came back with Clorox smells inside and on our drinks. The hadn’t seemed to be made either. Never going again.

I enjoyed my stay. It was close to everything.

The hostel is located in a nice place in Upper West Side with good access to convenience stores, the train station and Central Park. It was easy to go around from there. The private room with private toilet is spacious with good enough leg room for travellers with a lot of luggage like us. There were a lot of sockets that weren't working though and it was hard to get staff assistance since the rooms didn't have phones to call the reception.

First, The room was totally different with pictures.Room was too small to use even alone. When i opened my suite case on the floor, there was no space to move. And bathroom which was inside my room was also too small. Moreover the room was cold. Staffs were nice and friendly. Last day of my journey i asked sending service from hostel to airport, the price was reasonable and comfortable. You could find starbucks,bakery,mcdonald's and walgreens near there.

I first booked my room that every moment when I landed in NYC. I booked a one bed room however when I got to the hotel, a larger class of over seas students needed nearly every single one bedroom size. In return, the hotel upped me into a two bed bedroom size with no extra charge.

I stayed 2 nights with my friends. The hotel is just 5mins walk from the metro and local and rapid both train stops at the 96st station. Room was quote small. We hardly could open up our luggages but still good deal in NYC. Wifi was ok in the room. Hot water was ok. Staff was helpful. Towel and sheet were clean. I would recommend you to stay in this place if you prefer practical benefit rather than a fancy service.

I chose this hotel as something of a last resort - as a broke graduate student, New York conventional hotel prices are out of my reach! But the Royal Park delivered. On arrival, I was greeted by the friendly desk manager. When I went to my room, I discovered that it had an A/C (which I was not expecting.) The room was clean and had fresh, high quality linens. The shared bathroom was spotless - the staff cleans it every morning, along with the hallways. The place can be a little noisy, especially in the evening - lots of young travelers stay here, and they are not always the most courteous. But the staff works hard to make sure things stay good for the rest of the patrons. With the A/C on, I did not notice any noise and slept well on the comfortable bed. I recommend this place for anyone who is travelling on a budget.

it was a great location, close to the mta (red lines), supermarkets and local drugstores. the neighbourhood is really pleasant, also close to food outlets, such as macs. we were lucky to have wifi access directly from our room as we had a room almost directly above the reception (hence it is always good to check-in early, we checked in about 1). however, do rmb to checkout before 11am as we incurred a fine for checking out late. the shared bathroom was bearable as we hardly had to wait and the bathroom is often empty. overall, it was a good stay, except that it is rather pricey for a hostel room with other fringe benefits.
