Great stay, extremely nice & helpful staff, clean!”
I've stayed at the Royal Star Guest House for three times now and I'd come back in a heartbeat! Such a lovely staff, always nice and ready to help. The rooms are clean and in good shape. The breakfast is delicious (different types of food are available: I've had everything from toast and fruit to fried rice and Mohinga soup). Hotel manager Gloria speaks English really well! Everyone on the team speaks a bit of English, so even when Gloria is not around, you'll be able to communicate with the nice staff. This guest house is quite popular among people who like to stay for a bit longer. They are also able to arrange laundry service, book tickets for onward travel and can give pointers on what to do and see in Yangon. Shared bathroom facilities are very clean! Wifi is reliable and good for Myanmar. Location is great, too! I can only recommend to stay here - I know I will once I'm back in Yangon.

Home from home, treated us as if we were family!”
Gloria, her family and the staff were so very very kind we did not want to leave. They treated us as of we were family and nothing was too much trouble. They looked after our bags whilst we travelled around Burma for 3 weeks and they even posted our postcards that we had forgotten to post. In a chaotic city like Yangon it is great to find a little bit of solace which is so centrally located. As we did not know what to expect about Yangon and Burma as a whole it was such a pleasure to be greeted by such friendly, helpful people. I would recommend anyone travelling to Yangon to use Royal Star Guest House as a base. Gloria thank you so very much! x

Great find, good location, reasonable price”
Used Royal Star for final night in Myanmar. Good location, walking distance to Scotts Market, Sule Pagoda etc. V reasonable and much cheaper than other hotels in the area. Helpful staff, they even made a small breakfast for me as I had to leave early morning for my flight. Very clean guest house, shared facilities; my room was on 2 floors with lounge area downstairs and mattress upstairs. Don't be put off by steep flight of stairs you have to climb. Guest house did not answer my emails in advance but were very helpful when I was there. Would recommend to others.

Small but very clean, with helpful staff”
It has a very good location, but as many parts of the city the street is rather messy. The inside of hotel is very clean, and the staff are all kind and helpful. We took a deluxe room with a private bathroom, which was clean and nice but it was quite narrow and small (but I presume that many hotels are like this in Yangon). We had a nice stay here overall.

Spotless very thoughtful, attentive,helpful staff”
Gave me double room for ptice of a single. Took me to the railway Station to buy my ticket and to the platform it would be leaving from the next morning to be sure I knew where it was leaving from. I felt like I was home here and the shared bath was spotless. I left a bag there to pick up at a later date as well as laundry. Good home base and value in Yangon. Breakfast was very basic, toast eggs fruit and coffee. All in all a good experience.

my favourite place in Yangon”
Been here now several times and will come back when I return to Yangon next time. Its the friendly owner and staff which makes this place so special. Very clean room with comfortable bed , good AC , fast reliable Wifi , different breakfast every day. Location is perfect if you want to be near Sule-Pagoda , the railwaystation and lots of restaurants and teahouses.

friendly staff, clean room”
I checked out in the morning and left my bag at the reception area before sightseeing within Yangon. Went back in the afternoon and they were kind enough to lend me a towel and let me use my former room for a while and the bathroom without additional charge, to freshen up before leaving for a night bus trip to Bagan. My room though was right next to the reception area so it's easy to hear guests coming in and out of the guesthouse. The bathroom was clean but it had that musty smell because of the lack of exhaust fans. Same with the towels, which smelled like they were folded and locked inside a cabinet while still a little moist. Other than these, the guesthouse had a good service, in general.

Great location but full of mosquitoes”
As being mentioned by others, the owners and staffs are very kind and helpful. they offer to help and show hospitality in every aspect. The location is right at the middle of downtown within minutes walk to sule padoga. we love the location expect the street where the guest house located. the stairs in the guest house are like climbing in a pagoda in bagan which is very steep. but they are kind enough to carry our luggage up and down. we don't mind the room to be tired or dirty. however, we saw countless mosquitoes flying when we got in the room. and some hall of fame dead mosquito bodies on the wall that were killed by the past tenants. we got bitten all over our faces and bodies and we ended up got up 3 times in the middle of the night killing mosquitoes. i killed 4 and still saw a few ones flying around. we could not sleep well at all. we stayed 7 nights in other guesthouses/ hotels in myanmar with all kinds of budgets. they all controlled mosquitoes effectively by spraying mosquitoes killers, using repellents, mosquitoes net. in this case, we were quite disappointed. the guesthouse is also quite noisy and prepare to be awaken by the noise as well.

excellent service and good location”
We checked into Royal Star immediately from a gruelling 20hour train ride from Bagan. It is just opposite the train station. The guest hse is easy to find and situated along a row of streets with english road signboards. The innkeepers were most helpful and checked us in early. The guesthouse is small and on second floor. There is no lift to the guesthouse but they have an attendant who will assist with baggages. The innkeeper speaks very good English and gave us advice on the best places to eat local food. Sule Shangrila is just a few blocks away for a luxurious meal. The streets are safe with many interesting stalls. We enjoyed ourselves very much.

Great price for location, nice people”
. Stayed three nights and plan on staying there before I fly out again. It is family owned and the mother speaks the best English. The others get by. breakfast is mostly Asian style (mohinga, Chinese pork bun, fried egg on rice stir fry). The room I stayed in was a very low price (about half what I had planned on paying, and barely more than hostels) but was an interior room without windows. That proved tricky during power outages before backup power/generators switched on. They had flashlights that they would use to help me get inside the room and find my own flashlight. As well as being near Bogyoke Market, the street has lots of electronic stores and street vendors, Japanese and mixed Asian restaurants, interesting street food, bakeries, and a legitimate walk-in foot/shoulder massage place. I booked the same day in the morning, but then had a trip interruption and had to change in the afternoon to arrive the next day. They were willing to accommodate the change

Cheap, Comfortable Place to Crash in Downtown Yang”
The hotel is clean, although the stairs will be a challenge if you have an injury or disability. Room was quite large with a nice view to the street, which wasn't too terribly noisy. Breakfast is meh, but included in the price of your stay. This place is close to lots of attractions and good restaurants.

Booking discrepancy”
There were some problems with my booking - even though the online price difference for Standard Double shared bathroom and private bathroom are only less than 1 USD apart, and i made a mistake in choosing the wrong option on Agoda, i was charged 13,000 Kyats for one night to upgrade from shared to private bathroom. Surely felt abit ripped off. Anw, nothing special about the hotel, not sure how it got its 8.1 rating, because i felt other hotels like Grand United surely deserve more than this lowly hotel which does not even have a frontage to its building. Luckily, the side signboard is bright yellowish and big enough to indicate its presence. However, the flight of stairs up is qte steep to the lobby, least to say the further flight of stairs up to the rooms. Luckily their staff were helpful enough with luggages. Anw, its location is quite superb though. Opposite is a B&B dining place which many foreigners eat. Being an addict of foot massage, i found Sabaidee (3) foot massage on the same street. However, it was not good enough, until i found this Sapel Traditional Foot Massage located at 16th Street which was recommended on TripAdvisor as the top Spa in Yangon. Absolute heaven. I encourage all visitors to Yangon to try this Spa. Not only is the ambiance top class, the massage was relaxing and soothing to my aching muscles as well! Especially required since i had to climb up and down the stairs of this hotel every day.

Disappointing Stay”
I really wanted to give this hotel a great review, but we had some issues. For starters, the staff was great! They were very friendly and helpful... we arrived late (around midnight) and they were there waiting for us. We also had train tickets being delivered and they held our money and got the tickets from our travel agency when delivered. The location is good... it's near a lot of tourist sights and very close to the train station. The room is basic, but completely sufficient. The only problem we had, which was a big one, was that we had mosquitoes in our room. I think this was the result of poor drainage (common in Myanmar) and poor ventilation in the bathroom. It wasn't a problem during the day, mainly because we weren't in the room, but we woke up the second morning covered in bites. This doesn't seem like a common problem based on the reviews of others.

You will feel like home here”
It is definitely worth to stay in this small hotel. All staffs are very kind and helpful. If you had any problem, the receptionist, auntie and the young boy will assist and service immediately. No place to hang your clothes in the room and I did not like the toilet. There was a power outrage at midnight. Check at reception, saw 2 staff manning at the gate entrance. Bravo to the excellence security here. Breakfast of butter bread with egg and fried mee with fruits on alternate day are tasty and fresh. A hot water dispenser is available at the lobby. Improve the Wifi speed and you will love this simple and clean place more. I will definitely stay again but not in the same room.

Lovely staff! Nice location in Yangon old town dis”
Staffs here are very helpful, from arranging pick up at airport, chartered car, and even booking bus tickets with reasonable prices. Because of that, I could save a lot of time for arranging my transportation, and spend more time on sightseeing. Thanks a lot, will definitely visit again!

Still my second home in Yangon ”
Excellent budget accommodation near Sule Pagoda and railway station. Very friendly host family and staff. Nice rooms downstairs with shared very clean bathrooms. Upstairs rooms available with private bathroom as well. Unfortunately did the very competent manager Gloria move to another place. Definitely the place to recommend if you want to stay in this area.

A Hidden Gem!”
The rooms are basic but clean and well kept. The breakfast is average (bananas, coffee, toast & egg). The hotel is located close to the Train station and the Sule Paya and city centre. The lady on the front desk was extremely helpful in getting me a train ticket when all trains were full. She made many phone calls on my behalf and was polite and eager to help. Thank you!!!

Value for money and lovely staff ”
Really happy with my stay here. The location is great, the room was clean and spacious, and the staff is really sweet and helpful. Only negative thing is that toilet and shower was outside of my room. Would definitely stay here again.
