I had a very pleasant stay at Royale Chulan Penang. The hotel combines comfort with a touch of heritage charm, and the location is truly one of its strongest points. Situated right in the city, it’s within walking distance to many of George Town’s attractions, cafes, and local food spots, which made exploring Penang so easy and enjoyable. The room was spacious, clean, and well-kept, giving a comfortable place to relax after a day out. The staff were courteous and always willing to help, adding to the overall positive experience. The breakfast spread was also enjoyable, with a good balance of local and international options. What I appreciated most was being able to step outside and immediately feel connected to the city – whether it was sightseeing, food hunting, or just strolling around George Town’s streets. Overall, Royale Chulan Penang is a great choice if you want a relaxing stay while still being right at the heart of the city. I’d definitely recommend it for both leisure and business travelers.

I stayed at Royale Chulan Penang for 4 nights with my family. The location was excellent — close to George Town’s historic centre, street art, shops, and a wide range of restaurants. It was easy to get around and enjoy what Penang has to offer. The room was clean and comfortable, with great beds and an excellent shower. The air conditioning worked well and was pleasantly quiet. The gym was good but I feel the pool facilities could be improved, with some food and drink facilities. The reception staff were very helpful and accommodating with a special request I had, which made check-in smooth. The staff in the restaurant were also helpful when I mentioned I was vegan. I was however, disappointed that several vegetable dishes — which could have easily been vegan — were prepared with chicken stock or fish sauce. It would be great if the kitchen could avoid using animal products in otherwise plant-based , giving more options to vegan and vegetarian guests without having to prepare something separately. Overall, it was a comfortable and enjoyable stay with good service and a convenient location. I’d be happy to stay again.

This is my second visit to this hotel , decided to stay here after excellent experience last year but to my dismay it was not the same this time around .for the positive side, the bellboys , housekeeping staff and the doormen were very friendly and helpful, breakfast buffet was so so as not all food was upto the standards for such an establishment, but still not bad as the spread was ok and staffs were good. Rooms are clean even though sometimes lights not working well at times .coming to my actual issue which was the attitude of the night manager and front desk staff who helped me to check in that night, I booked 4 standard twin rooms for 4 nights including breakfast and fully paid , once booked I’ve contacted the hotel earlier before my arrival date to make some adjustments as in adjoining rooms for us since we have elderly parents with medical conditions which will need help at night , it was informed that they will try to accommodate but subject to availability on arrival time but no mention of extra charges of RM 50/night if need adjoined as only available for king type not twin type of room , as I saw online the rate is the same for both types of rooms and last year I had no issue with this , but the manager insisted that if I need adjoining they can arrange but with the additional charges and it seems we will only be informed of this upon arrival only and not when I was asking prior to it, seems like it was being forced on us and after debating for a while he just told the front desk staff something and just left , we found it very rude , later when I wanted to pay total charges for the adjoining rooms the front desk staff just replied that they decided not to take any money from us , in a tone we found not pleasant as thought it was charity, honestly they need proper training and soft skills experience, daily we need to greet first before expecting a reply ,we feel the backend staff are more polite and helpful . Have decided not to return to this hotel anymore.

“Facilities, Cleanliness and Management of the Buffet ”
The reason I will recommend is the location and the staffs. The hotel is located at a strategic location and all staffs from the security to housekeeping were very friendly, respectful and helpful. The hospitality aspect is good however following are my concerns on the following: 1) We booked three rooms, one for OKU. I will start with the OKU room first. The room is provided with adequate space for wheel chair movement and railings provided in the bath room to facilitate the OKU person to hold and move stably. However when the shower is used the water flows out and the whole area is wet. Foot rug/towel provided however it is soaked by the time bath is completed. The whole floor is slippery. I was very concerned for my Mom because everytime she had to use the toilet the floor is wet and slippery. There are no curtains or any other way to prevent the water from flowing out. The same feedback for the other two rooms too. My husband informed the water from the bathroom was flowing out and the foot rug was soaked with water Please look into this matter. 2) Cleanliness - daily housekeeping must be improved - vacuuming and cleaning of the toilets. 3) Management of Buffet - in my opinion the hotel management will know the occupancy rate and number pax for daily breakfast. I noticed that the food was not replenished quickly for three consecutive days that I had my breakfast. On my checkout day, the buffet area was not very busy but clearing and replenishment of food was fast. The hotel management must have a designated persons at respective food station to ensure food is replenished in a timely manner
