Extremely nice staff and very helpful. Though common areas are unexploited and aren’t welcoming to meet other travellers. Location is a +++, quality of mattresses too (finally a soft mattress), showers a bit old and dirty (but hot water at least!!!) For boat tours, I recommend Cat Ba Bay 90 boats.

Stayed two nights while I took a boat trip into the Bay. The view is excellent - over the water and floating restaurants. Everything within walking distance. Good beds and clean facilitites

Cheap, buffet breakfast (warning, if there are few people, they just offer one of the dishes instead of all, but it’s a big plate and they still give you bread, watermelon, and crepe pancakes- plenty of food), extremely comfy bed, great air con, awesome hot shower, towel included with bed! At the end of the main strip, so a bit quieter than other places, but 2-3 minute walk to Central strip. Loved staying here! Found it a great value for the money!!

- Booked 14 bed from, got 28 bed dorm with 4 people extra sleeping on mattresses on the floor. Us 32 plus another dorm shared 2 toilets and 4 showers. The bathroom was super dirty, everywhere was sand. Outside was karaoke music until late. No curtains. No breakfast. Most expensive hostel I booked on my entire 5 months trip so far. + The beds were comfortable. The people were polite enough. The dorm and beds were clean.

Very kind staff ”

The best about this hostel is the staff and the breakfast. They were super kind even when I was a bit upset because I had the feeling everyone was trying to rip me off in town ( which was probably a bit like that..) I felt good over there and I will definitely recommend it

Ok good for one night”

Only pro is the price is low. The breakfast is buffet in nearby hotel. The wifi is not good. The rooms ae clean and i can say the toilets should be cleaner. I guess you do get what you pay for. If you are very picky i wouldnt stay here. If you are flexible its fine for one or two nights.

Not the worst stay, definitely not the best”

Cat Ba is clearly just a place to make money from tourists, this hostel is no exception. The staff was very unfriendly in every encounter. The bathrooms smell terrible as other say. But the bed and room of the 6 dorm was clean and good A/C so at least a good night's rest. The location was really good for walking to Oasis bar for food and drinks and the tour in the morning. So pros and cons.

Pros: Inexpensive, quiet (except for construction noise), location close to the action but not in the middle of it, great view. Cons: the large room has 24 beds Tip: book in the 6-bed room (no view, dark) and hang out on the balcony to enjoy the view and WiFi.

Even if cat ba city is very touristy and as a result not that beautiful in my opinion, the hostel is a nice place to stay. Simple but everything you need. Comfortable beds and James and his sun at the reception who are always extremely friendly and helpful.

Unsocial hostel with good beds and good location ”

Terrible breakfast and a really unsocial hostel. Got only cleaned every 3rd day so lot of hair and dirty boxer shorts in the shower area. The showers were not good either, bad pressure. The beds were great, and the location perfect, so if you prefer a good night sleep it's a nice place!!

Helpful Staff, Good Location”

Good hostel. The staff are really friendly and helpful and have exceptional English. The hostel looks over the bay and is a short walk to some really good nearby restaurants. We booked the Eco Boat tour around Ha Long Bay through the hostel. It was really cheap the the tour was great - Definite must do! Rooms are big and clean, shared bathroom facilities are clean as well. Breakfasts are in the in the hotel next door and it is a good buffet. Would stay here again and would recommend if you are staying a couple of days on Cat Ba island.

The poor receptionist looked so tired with dealing with so many travellers!! Super glad I came here. He really looked after me well and I had a good time. Room was very spacious, dry/cold and always clean.

I booked catbe central hostel but they gave me a room in an another hotel. Room was big but nothing more than that. No free water and shower wasn't satisfying either. Thought breakfast was good according to the review on Agoda. But this hotel breakfast really had not many things to eat. Had to book a bus and a speed boat to another city. The staff said I can't go because of the weather. So I booked at an other place. They didn't tell me about the weather. Said it's fine. And I was able to move to an another city. Nothing wrong with the weather.

Good option”

Good option for female dorm. The room is spacious but lacks hooks and such for hanging bathing suits/ towels/ jackets. Great location. There was a bed bug square in a dorm on the 2nd floor but the female dorm was OK. Staff does not really speak English - only 1 or 2 of them too so there were long waits at times to find information/ booking motorbikes/ tours/ bus rides

dorms quite big, but clean, have lockers, towels, air conditioning... Everythin you need. Staff is the best part of this place, helpful, friendly and their offered tour to islands is really good value. Plus breakfast!

Nice place to stay!”

I've been here for 4 days and 3 nights. I slept in the 14 bed dorm. The beds are good, the rooms are quiet big and the bathrooms are clean. The wifi doesn't work in the room but it works in the hallway. If you want any information, just ask James. I can recommend the eco tour: it's around 16$ and you go kayaking, swimming and visit the Monkey Island. Don't visit the hospital cave on the Island, it's dissapointing! The views on top of the cannon fort are beautiful!

Great atmosphere ”

The vibe here is great. Good communal space, free breakfast, cheap "free pours" of spirits, and good location made it really easy to meet other travellers. Everyone was more into adventuring and doing rather than partying so it was really easy to sleep at night. Good bed. Water didn't work during the day. A/c in one room was broken but the fans made it OK. No water refills here but Asia Outdoors does water refills for the large bottles for 5k.

So glad we did. The staff were beyond polite, spoke good English and always around to assist. They let us keep the room for the same agoda price till we needed to leave. They cleaned it immaculately everyday and the bed was so comfortable. It was few minute walking distance to everything. Proper hot shower and nice bathroom. Great value for the price we paid.

The beds are comfortable and the restaurant downstairs in the hall prepares tasty meals. Daily tour Lan Ha bay is so nice with many activities: kayaking, swimming, trekking monkey island... Staff excellent. Brill value for money. Perfect location. Everything you need
