Absolutely worth the money if you do not need luxury but want a room of your own, everything very basic and quite old, very friendly family (although they do not speak a lot of English)

Cheap but would rather pay a few extra bucks ”

The place was very central but the room were not very clean. The beds were extremely hard so we could not sleep. Hard to communicate but the landlord seemed lovely anyway.

Cheap if you want your own hotel room but it smelled”

Couldn’t beat the price for 2 twin beds / to have my own room but it smelled funky, kind of like puke. The owners’ english was very limited so it was very hard to communicate. No elevator and the stairway was always dark but there are lights you can turn on, but we didn’t realize that until later. Convenient location as it was next to Like Coffee, amazing coffee place and also Cat Ba Green Trail, which we ended up booking a day trip for. Not sure if I would stay here again though.

Great location and nice family”

This place is run by a great family, most of them don’t speak any English but that doesn’t matter. You can communicate anyway. The views are great for a budget hotel. We did find some ants in the space but they gave us spray and it was fine. Would recommend.

Such an accommodating place. Extremely helpful with helping to find cheap and incredible excursions. The staff do not speak a ton of English but that is okay! Mr. Tuan speaks fantastic English and if you’re emailing to hotel this is the person you’ll be in contact with. Cannot say enough good things about this spot.

No English speaking person at hotel, we were on 5th floor with no elevator.”

Pros were nice view of harbour, air con in room, clean room but can have ants. Cons no English speaking person at hotel, needed to call owner whenever we wanted to ask something which took a while. Not much help with information about Cat Ba, no elevator so if you don't like stairs, don't book.

It’s okay for a night”

Location is perfect, right on the sea front. Great view of the sea from the bedroom window. Unfortunately, we only received a thin blanket rather than a duvet and both the blanket and pillows smelt really bad. The water for the shower was ‘hot and cold’ quite literally. The receptionist spoke very little English and accused us of not paying. Despite showing our Agoda reciepts they didn’t let us leave until they contacted a translator and figured out their mistake. Other than the mix up, the reception lady seemed lovely, just be wary of booking through Agoda as they seem unsure of how it works.

BEST VIEW IN TOWN”

I read a lot of reviews on places to stay. I pretty much picked this place for the view and read it was friendly. I arrived after dark and was greeted by the lovely owners with huge smiles. They didn’t speak English but that didn’t matter. I showed my booking ID and they showed me to my room. Basic room bathroom with a shower and 2 towels, 2 pairs of shoes, tv, aircon plus fan. Small but when all you need is a bed it was amazing!!! I woke up to one of the most beautiful views I could imagine, uninterrupted view of the bay. For $10 a night I was blown away. No breakfast or anything but the street and surroundings are full of options. They place was clean and I couldn’t recommend it more. Rooms are for sleeping and having a much needed shower so zero complains.

Good view from trip floor with balcony 5th floor. Convenient to town centre, food etc nearby. For those who want to just chill go to Woodstock, it's out of town but it's got a great vibe and beach.

Affordable hotel”

+ Clean and welcome staff. + Just 15 minutes walk to Cat Co 1 beach. + Verity of restaurants and shopping place around the hotel. + Easy to get transportation to and from the hotel. + Good price. + Room a bit small in size.

Lovely family”

Great value, lovely and helpful staff, reasonable priced trips, good AC and bed. Wifi and pillows were pretty poor. Awesome views! Highly recommended.

It's an okay hotel, nothing special, beds were clean however cigarette burn holes in the sheets even though it says a nonsmoking room. Beds are hard like most places. Staff was friendly although charged more for excursions than elsewhere, awesome location, wifi worked good. Decent for 1 or 2 nights.

Great view and lovely staff”

This place was basic but did the job. The sea view was really great and the staff were very friendly. There was no fridge in the room but they let us use the fridge at reception. It was close to the beach and to Canon Fort so a good base and the family bakery a few doors down does the best value sandwiches :) Also try the amazing veggie hamburger at Buddah Belly only 10 mins walk down the road.

When we arrived they told us that there was no power on the island, so we had to wait around 2 hours for the generator. After that everything was ok. The beds were clean, the view from the 4th floor was fantastic and the nice lady at the reception was always very friendly. So we have no major complaints.

We had 2 nights on the fifth floor, the room is simply decorated, but spacious, clean and has a great view over the bay. The receptionist was a very nice lady always kept friendly and smiling. I would think the price a bit higher this season, should not be in Cat Ba at weekend, price higher too. We rent a scooter driving around the island, beaches around the town were busy, nice hiking in national park. The next day we did a day trip to Ha Long bay without the hotel organization and had the most memorable day.

Good location, nice view from window. Loads of stairs to room. Very hard bed (Vietnamese style), no hot water. Seemed expensive but it could be Cat Ba prices.
