Seven Gables Inn
No elevator and the hotel was under construction, lots of noice and dust. We were not aware that there is no elevator. It was difficult to climb up with all our luggage.
very disappointed in this place ”
The hotel was under major renovation. I made my reservations two months before the stay, I should have been warned about this and given the option to change hotels without having to pay a cancellation fee. The rooms are on the second floor and there is no elevator. The phone in the room did not work so I could call down to let them know the WiFi was not working. They did not restock the toiletries the second day. I had to hunt down the front desk person when I checked in and over half the time I went downstairs there was no one at the desk. There was no coffeemaker in the room or robes as promised. I was not offered any sort of discount for the inconvenience . Over all I was disappointed to say the least. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Under renovation but was not bothered because it was a weekend Good ”
Good AC system ,comfortable beds, warm toilet seats very accommodating staff! Let us in early because we were tired from our early flight.
VERY pleasantly surprised. My new favorite hotel.”
My standby, Hilton Garden Inn, wasn't near where I needed to be for a night so I picked the Seven Gables just on their price and location...I wasn't expecting such a nice experience. Even though they are currently undergoing some upgrades and construction, the overall feel of the inn is wonderful. From the ACTUAL bar to the friendly staff and the gorgeous, comfortable and convenient room and 2 outdoor dining areas, I was very very pleased and felt more comfortable than any previous stayover. Can't wait for another excuse to visit St. Louis again...this will definitely be my "go to" from now on there.
No elevator & the curving stairs were tricky to climb with bags, which Required assistance from a porter. Didn’t know there was a daily parking fee.. No coffee in room. The hotel patio was not set up. Under construction which wasn’t mentioned.
The staff was exceptional and friendly, the location is close to many shops and restaurants in Clayton. The hotel was undergoing renovations, therefore a bit noisy until just after check-in. Due to renovations, we did not have some conveniences in our room, hence the exceptional service when they brought coffee and a hair dryer to us. I would stay there again.
We had a late check in. Clerk met us at the door and greeted us by name. Room was aesthetically pleasing. Wood floors with a rug. Room color was pleasant. Room was clean. My husband did not like the bed as it was on the firm side. It was fine for me, but if you don’t care for a firm bed may be an issue. Convenient location for our purpose. We did not use any other facilities. We left before breakfast.
Quaint, cozy, comfortable!”
No elevator , but very accommodating
The 7 Gables Inn in Clayton was my home for five days. I stayed here years ago and loved it because it’s just got a lot of character. But I have to say, if you ever get a chance to stay here for a few days, be sure to do it. This historic hotel is located right in the middle of Clayton and has an incredible amount character in an otherwise pretty sterile setting (tall glass buildings everywhere). As an added bonus, the food in the restaurant is great as well (the chicken pot pie with its - made from scratch - pastry crust can’t be described in words - that would require several gestures and an eye roll). Great prices and a great staff person at literally every single job. So thanks Damion, Reggie, Kayla, Kevin, etc., etc., etc., for making these last 4 days truly exceptional.
Quaint with a great location, but old and a bit rundown. It seems to be in the middle of never-ending construction (a refreshing?) but it would be better to simply shut, complete renovations then reopen. No elevator making climbing three flights of narrow, steep stairs an ordeal for older guests. Staff was friendly but had a super-casual frat house slacker vibe. Could pay a bit more attention to cleaning shower/ toilet area too.. i’ve stayed at the Seven Gables a number of times over the decades- shame to find it in this condition.
Needs updating ”
Furniture so old
Unfortunately we booked our night while hotel was going through a major renovation. Restaurant was closed. Lobby was cluttered. But the possibilities when it is all done will be wonderful. I would like to book again in the spring or early summer to really take advantage of all we missed this time. We did not know of the renovations until after we arrived but the room was nice. Shower area was very small and colder than rest of room, but room was nicely decorated and bed was comfortable. I would highly recommend when all the renovations are completed.
Place has Character.
My hotel room was awesome, I love the vintage touch. The Chicken Pot Pie was excellent, hats off to the cook. The breakfast , fell short, the fruit was good, the pastries did not taste fresh. But over all I would still give an excellent ranting. Thanks for a great hotel experience.
Great location , comfortable beds and good food!”
Right in downtown Clayton very convenient to restaurants and everything else in the area. It’s old but clean....I think many other people mistook old for dirty. Beautiful feather top mattress....very comfortable. Restaurant was good. Soon to be renovated by new owners. Will be interesting to see what happens to pricing.
Even more dated than the last time ”
We were looking for an overnight room in Clayton near the restaurants, before leaving town. We were last at the Seven Gables for an anniversary stay (again to be near the restaurants) maybe 15 years ago. It was old and weird even then, but it is simply old now. Think one’s granny’s house. The staff is nice and accommodating, but everything else is just dated.
Very nice property”
Needs an elevator for luggage
Quaint, Historic and Great Price!”
This hotel is adorable. It was a great price and in a great neighborhood. Couple of little shops and restaurants around the area in walking distance. The staff were nice, if not a little bit unprofessional, not towards me or other guests. Just in conversations you could hear between them. The hotel is a little dated but I think that is the charm of the place. Adorable wallpaper, antique style desk and phone. But still had a new bed and T.V. in the room. It had a cute little balcony outback you can eat at and mingle with other guests. The continental breakfast was actually a lot of food. You don't see that much variety usually. If you like historic architecture and old houses you have to stay here.
Soggy, smelly experience :(”
I'm not sure if we got the worst room they had because we booked through an internet site, or if this is just the standard for the hotel. The AC fan was incredibly loud, and so was the bathroom fan. When we arrived, the carpet was wet--it was gross. I assumed that it had been cleaned before we got there, and was just drying, but the next day when we got back, it was wet again. The sheets and pillows were clammy and damp, and the pillows smelled mildewy. The wallpaper was dirty and ripped in places, and the room and bathroom weren't very clean. The toilet was dirty, as was the floor. The shower curtain had a hundred snags in it, and wasn't clean. The second night we stayed there, the whole hotel had a septic tank smell. The only good thing about our visit was that the staff members were very friendly, efficient and helpful. It was much appreciated.
