We have stayed at Vanilla Place twice since moving to Chiang Mai in 2017. They are a great option for a night in the city as we live about 30km from town. The staff is welcoming and breakfast is basic, but a nice touch!
Quirky and quaint”
It was a little hard to find, because from the street it just looks like a shop front. Once there (with some help on the phone from the reception staff) check in was good, with the staff member very helpful. It's a place which really defies classification. It has this almost backpacker vibe to it with common areas for sitting and chatting and lots of decorations here and there to make it feel, well, homely. The room was a little small, but adequate, and reasonably comfortable. There are little things which go unnoticed, such as a cotton tip sitting in the pot plant outside my door for the length of my stay (two nights), so really management should perhaps take a more active role in supervision of what's done or not. There's no lift so the combination of stairs and luggage may need to be considered by some. Breakfast is rudimentary but as it was included can't really complain, except to note that many places do it much better. It's on a busy road to the east of the Night bazaar which is an easy five minute walk away, and maybe a hundred metres north of the western end of the Iron Bridge, so it's reasonably handy to everything and there'd be plenty of taxis and tuk tuks passing the front door. There's also very limited motorcycle parking at the front entrance. I would stay again, but as always, I really scrutinize the tariff on offer against the competition, and there's plenty of that! I don't know how Agoda works their customer ratings but I'd put it around 6.9 to 7.1.
Thank you for your serious comments and suggestions, we will try to change our external environment, I hope the next time you can see you, I wish you all along
The best place to stay in Chiang Mai”
I loved it here so much that I ended up staying one more night when I passed through the city again on my way home. It's close to night market and the river and the best value! The family that runs this place is so nice! They even got up at 4 am to make sure I got my taxi to the airport. Thanks for everything!
The best place to stay in Chiang Mai”
This guest house is really top notch and the owners go out of their way to help you! Bee was so kind to me and helped me book a bus ticket and early morning taxi ride. I really can't say enough good things about this place. It's only a short stroll to the night market area but by the river so it's great for a good night's sleep. With free water supplies and breakfast, it's really a great deal
pleasant stay with friendly staff assist.”
Is our first time to Chiangmai for YiPeng Festival. The staff is so friendly and give us printed material walk around. The map & material is so informative, however we do not have much time to explore there. Hotel itself have local tour arrangement (to Golden Triangle), the price is higher than night bazaar but we can accept it. Staff willing to spend their time & patiently answering our question.
Wonderful stay!!!! ”
I arrived solo and was waiting on my friend, and they staff was perfect about making me feel comfortable and making sure to look out for my friend for me. The owner took out a map and highlighted places to eat and visit and made me feel like I was at home talking to my mama! They also were going to help us book an ethical elephant tour, but our plans changed and we didn't get to go. They were amazing, friendly, and the rooms were adorable! AC worked perfectly and there was also a fan. Location to food and night market was a huge plus and I can't think of anything bad about our stay there. Would highly recommend!
love this boutique guesthouse”
What do you expect fussy folks? Be realistic. For that price you get an aleconditioned room, comfortable bed, free will and a decent bathroom that showers well. Simple breakfast Is even provided! The owner Bee Is extremely helpful and a very nice dog called Happy.
Do yourself a favour and DO NOT stay here. ”
I am not one for writing bad reviews unless it is absolutely necessary, but this place is the worst place I have ever stayed. It’s easier just to make a list. 1. 1 staff member, who couldn’t communicate, was never to be found when things went wrong. We couldn’t even find him to check out so we had to just leave the key. 2. First room had rising damp, was dirty, had satin sheets and water leaked all through the wall on to my girlfriends bag and Soaked her clothes. He refused to wash it at first but eventually gave in. We were moved rooms. 2. Second room stank, cigarette smoke was coming through the vents, toilet smelt awful. The air con then preceded to leak black goo all over more clothes. He came and wiped it with a tissue and said it’s fine now. 3. All day everyday a dog was tied to the front office door; with no water or food. Another guest even told us he had to give the dog water. There were more problems but too many to write about. Worst stay ever.
Pretty good value and really well located. ”
Excellent location. The free breakfast was pretty basic, just cereal and toast and limited fruit. If you are mobility restricted the climb up four flights of stairs to the top floor might be difficult. The staff, although obliging, did not have the language skills to assist much with tours or bookings.
Just a standard hotel”
the hotel is near to night bazaar, only 5 minutes walking. the room was a bit old. some water was leaking from the aircon. the breakfast was VERY BASIC. you took everything by yourself. no guidance, no replacement. you come late, you will find only some cookies on the table. I found nobody at the reception many times so it was difficult for me to get information. however, when I met the young lady at the reception when I checked out, she was so helpful and friendly.
location's pretty good - it's near the night market area basic amenities - good for solo/pair travellers staff are incredibly helpful and great people who, as the other reviewers would attest, would go out of their way to help you out. there's an amazing massage place nearby as well.
Great place to stay”
Great guest house and in a good location close to the river and the Party Bus Bar is good fun by the river and good for people watching. The couple that runs this place are so wonderful and helpful and gave me ideas of things to do each day. There is a good expat bar up the road to toss a few just cant remember the name so I guess that I tossed a couple more than I should have. Haha great place
Dear, thank you very much for your evaluation, we will try to do better, and we are not husband and wife Oh, we are brother and sister oh:-D
Clean, good location, hospitable ”
Its located off the night bazaar main road. Pleasant, cosy and homely guest house. Tian-tian, Sam and Monica are three lovely people who made us feel at home. Breakfast was simple but enough for us. I liked that I could sit at the table in the dining room and do my work along other guests who were also with their own laptops. Thanks for the polite and sincere hospitality!!
Thank you very much for your careful evaluation, we will try to do better, hope you can see you again
Perfect place to stay in Chiang Mai”
It is a 2 min walk to the night bazzar and a 15min walk to the old city. We walked to everything we did in chiang mai. We loved this place so much we extended our stay. Its absolutely perfect for budget travellers. They will look after you. 10/10
Thank you for your careful evaluation, we are very happy, we will strive to do better and better, I wish you all the best
Great location, helpful staff”
This guesthouse is conveniently located near the night bazaar. Great value for money if you are on a budget. Very helpful staff who goes out of their way to assist travelers. We are very pleased with our stay here.
Great place to stay.”
I cannot say enough about this hotel. Clean, lots of hot water, 5 minutes from the night bazzar. The best part was the wonderful service and kind people who run it. Bee was a lovley host and she would move mountains to make our stay . You leave feeling that you have made acspecial friend. My husband hurt his knee climbing mountains tobtbe Gill tribes and Bee and her husband would not let us step off the curb without carying whatever we had in oir hands. There is nothing else one can ask for. The price was extreemly cheap for this quality of service.
This guest house was in a great location within the Night Bazaar area but not too far to walk to many other parts of Chiang Mai. The staff were great - very accomodating. They would arrange tours, transport etc. Breakfast was a simple continental but great to be included for the price. The facilities were basic - bed, bathroom, hot shower etc. Perfect for me, as my goal isn't to go away and hang out in my room.
Eleven out of ten ”
This hotel is must for any.budget traveller to.Chang Maj as the personal.attention and service you receive is the best. Judging by the comments of fellow travellers on this site and that are posted on the wall by the breakfast area we are not alone in feeling more like a friend than a guest, Nothing is ever too much trouble.to Bee and she is a wealth of knowledge about the area and where to visit both in.Chang Mai and the neighbouring.cities and indeed countries. All.of this helped me and my.girlfriend get the best experiences possible., I would not hesitate to stay in this hotel and will recommend it to.friends and fellow travellers alike .
Very nice facility for the price. The owner, Dee, is wonderful and her partner, Song, is very helpful. Dee has maps available that show the area and she highlights it to help you find your interests. She will help set up tours if needed. She is always aware when you are due to be picked up for tours and if they are not there on time, she will call for you. The facility is very nice and clean. Complimentary water every day, good warm shower, air conditioning. Pleasant simple breakfast. A little bit out of town but still very walkable. Can't beat it for the price!
Fun Little Place!”
This is my second time at Vanilla Place- the staff there is more than helpful and will go above and beyond to help you. The facility itself is not the greatest if you're into fancy, updated veneer, but if you don't care about that- then this is a great value. With only a 5 minute walk to the night bazaar, and a great location to little coffee shops, VP will continue to be my go-to stop in Chiang Mai.
