as what my daughter wrote on the wall, rucksack inn @ lavender street "rocks". we stayed there for 2 nights and we are a total of 13 people in our group. when we checked in , the manager/co-owner and staffwelcomed us with an excellent hospitality - provided us drinks and our rooms were already ready for us at 12 noon even though the check in time was at 2pm. during our stay,(the team leader) provided us an excellent customer service and always on top of what we need during our stay. her staff is the same way with all smiles and eagerness to assist every guest. in addition, we did not expect a phone call from (manager) on our last day of stay (unfortunately, we stayed too short) thanking us for our stay and apologizing that she will not able to stop by before we check out as she has a family commitment. with this, it truly shows they value their guest and you will not find find this kind of accommodation anywhere in singapore. you have the best staff you can ever have so hopefully you keep them as you could. thank you so much to all of you. we truly enjoyed our stay at rucksack inn @ lavender street. definitely, will stay there again (no doubt) in our future trip to singapore. may, keep in touch.
Some of my friends recommended the hostel when they went to SG last December 2011. So i took their advice, and booked for Rucksack inn @ Lavender. And i'm glad i took their advice. Although the location is a bit far off if you're coming from Changi Airport, but it's only a few stops from Universal Studios. Vivo City Mall being on the same green line with Boon Keng MRT. The hostel was cozy and smells nice. :) i would have loved to stay longer but we have to travel to KL. Both my girlfriend and I never stayed at a backpackers hostel before, but we instantly liked the place. The bunkbeds were great. each bunkbed has a reading light and electrical socket. Then there's free wifi, a mini library, 3 MAC computers if you dont have any laptop, unlimited bread, jam, coffee, tea and drinking water. The bathroom was so much great. The showers have hot and cold water, shampoo and shower gel. There are also washing machines, and ironing board, hairdryer for women, sinks and mirror. Rucksack Inn @ Lavender is awesome. :)
Nice and comfy hostel.”
From bus stop we walk 10mins towards Rucksack Inn. Walking around Singapore wasn't such a bad thing. I liked it, actually. Once we got at Rucksack Inn, we were anxious to ask if we could use their facility before checking in. We waited a short while and Ms. May the receptionist (who also speaks tagalog) assisted us and immediately led us in our room. We booked the 14-bed dormitory and there were seven of us, so we had to share the room with other people. Quite difficult if you're a light sleeper, in any case, Rucksack Inn provides ear plugs for a few S$. We got there around noon, with no food and no restaurants nearby or I think we were all too tired to find one, but the staff told us that we can have bread and coffee anytime(not just in the morning?). After having more than a few bites, we were off to Universal Studios. We had no trouble getting there, thanks to RS staff they told us the easiest and fastest way to get there. The only thing that I noticed in Rucksack Inn is that they have few shared toilets and showers. All in all, our stay in Rucksack Inn was pleasant and satisfying.
Value for money, worth every cent”
My stay was very exciting at Rucksack Inn @ Lavender Street. The receptionist are very friendly, especially Gina. She was very helpful to me and other guests. The pod I'm staying is perfect. Perfect temperature, very clean, and private. The bathroom and toilets for pod guests are somehow much cleaner than the ones for bunkbed guests, although I know it depends on the guests. The other guests are very friendly too, perhaps because the receptionists are very friendly too and open conversation between us. The only critics are 1. they need to put somekind of hanger at toilet to put our pants on when we do number 2. 2. The blanket thickness is perfect, but it's just too short. I'm 167 cm slim guy, I cant imagine how the guest who are much taller/wider than me using the blanket. The conclusion is, this might be one of few hostel you wont be regretting to stay. Highly recommended. Joned
As a solo traveler, you search for cheapest and clean hostel with good wifi and comfortable beds. I stayed in 12 bed mix dorm with no problems. Rooms and hostel cleaned very regularly as well as made to smell nice. Make your own toast and coffee free 24x7. Hostel located near many bus stops and 7-11 and hawker food stalls. Amazing staff will help you with any questions or queries you have about the hostel and more than happy to help you with your tourist needs. Rahman is the queen of Lavender Rucksack Inn and she will be there for you with the biggest smile in SG.
BOOK THIS NOW!”
If you are going to Singapore (group or individual traveler) then look no further! Rucksack Inn is conveniently located in Kallang and is just a 15 min walk from the famous Mustafa Center where you can shop til you drop! Farrer Park MRT Station is also just around 15-20 min walk from the place so going to where ever you want to go is going to be easy! I booked 9 beds of their 10 bed dorm so we can have a little privacy as I was traveling in a group of 7 folks! And guess what? We had the room all to ourselves! The room was a bit dark as you only have the lamp as your light but their beds are cozy as hell! Makes you want to just sleep in the whole day! One problem though, the door was a little to heavy for my small arms so opening and closing it was a workout! Oh and yeah, their staffs are the best! Very friendly and very accommodating! Need I say more?
Best for solo travelers!”
Rucksack inn @ Lavender street is best for solo travelers/backpackers! It's like a one big dormitory where you can interact with other travelers. Your things are safe and they offer free lockers. Though the location is a bit far from LRT where you need to ride a bus to get there. And a 10-15 min walk from MRT station, which is a good exercise! The staff were very approachable and accommodating. I highly recommend this place!
A perfect hostel with a friendly owner”
this is a good place for you, when you come to Singapore at the first time. Ms Elina -the owner very kind, lovely, funny and friendly will show you how is Singapore look like and where to go, to play, to eat. she will help you to feel travel at Singapore very easy ^^ I love this place. this Hotel is nearby a food market - you can find out some delicious food with a best price, easy to catch the bus to go to the Zoo and another place. we will turn back Rucksack Inn@ Lavender St on next time . 9 mark for them
Great Hostel with Helpful Staff”
rucksack inn lavender is a great hostel. very clean, very calm, it's just i need stronger shower the staff were very helpful, one of them was ed. he was super helpful and very informative about the accommodation. and the other one was 60 years old lady, she was super nice, very friendly, i like her! you don't need to worry about food near rucksack. you just need to cross the street, there you will find a hawker with many variety of food. there are several bus-stops near rucksack, so no need to worry about how you reach a place. if you go straight by walking, you'll reach little india. just need 10 minutes of your time! good place, right?!
Lovely hostel with amazing vibes”
I've been looking for a nice hostel in Singapore for a while and was extremely happy to finally have found it. This hostel provides an amazing service with free breakfast (even if you haven't checked in yet), extremely friendly and helpful staff which isn't giving you the feeling you were one out of hundrets. The accommodation is good, comfortable and clean ( in 14-bed-dorm no window, 10-bed-dorm, window and very nice room) -- good value for the price. I was very satisfied with the stay. With an extraordinary relaxed and friendly atmosphere I would recommend Rucksack Inn to every traveller who is looking for more than just a bed (but good service and a homely surrounding to get to know other travellers). Thank you very much for the lovely time and the hospitality
Rucksack inn, a place of comfort and enjoyment”
Rucksack inn @ Lavender st is a fantastic place. The area was so clean and cozy. its also equipped with filipino staffs that were so hospitable. easy accessibility to transportation was also found in this place. They also provide free wifi/internet/entertainment to the guests. CR and shower rooms were all clean and sterile.
Home in Singapore”
I stayed at the Rucksack Inn @ Lavender for 5 nights and those flew by so fast! I want to return and live there longer next time. It feels like home and the rooftop terrace adds an organic vibe to the place. It is a good venue to meet new and interesting people from all over the world. The MRT stations may not be a stone's throw away but the place is still accessible (especially by bus) and situated in a nice neighbourhood. The rooms and common areas are well-kept and the staff are accommodating. Will definitely recommend!
Best hostel in the area, at least”
There are loads of hostels in and around Singapore's Little India; Rucksack Inn lies at the north-east end, with several others within 5 minutes' walk. I stayed in two others also, but Rucksack is the nicest of them. Rucksack Inn has multiple comfortable communal areas, with couches downstairs and a rooftop terrace. The toilets and showers are excellent - better than those in the majority of hostels in the region (or, at least, those in this price bracket). Rucksack Inn is generous with free tea and coffee, and provides a better selection of spreads and conserves for breakfast toast than I found anywhere else. The staff are friendly, helpful and always ready to provide an extra blanket. The staff encourage you to book online for best prices but, due to its popularity, availability goes down, and prices rise, at the weekends.
Awesome, Rucksack = ROCKS”
Our stay at Rucksack Inn is a wonderful experience, the staff are truly accommodating. It felt like home, you could use the flat-iron, hair blower and computer any time you like. The room and comfort rooms are clean, even smells clean. We really appreciate the staff's concern for our well-being even giving advise for a safe travel and tour in Malaysia. We would definitely stay there again when we go back to Singapore
Feels like Home”
We stayed at Rucksack Inn for 4 days and it was perfect for us. May (one of the lovely staff) always assist us, she is really a great customer service. One day, it was Dec 31, it was raining all day long. So we stayed at the hostel, watching movies and eating toast with jam and peanut butter. At the afternoon, I was starving and it was still raining outside. Aunty Rachel (one of staff) kindly offered us to have lunch with them. She cooked Vietnamese Beef Noodle for us. It was so delicious. We love it very much. Boon Keng mrt station is only 300m from the hostel. If you walk from the hostels backdoor.. Turn left.. the backdoor is now on your left side then walk straight ahead about 100m through the street till you find a grass field .. Turn right .. walk 200m straight ahead(apartments buildings are on your right side) until you find boon keng mrt station at your left side. If you still can't find it just ask anyone you meet .. they will explain it to you.
mixed dorm covers all your basic needs ”
I arrived in Singapore at 4am in Rucksack Inn and it is easy to find. At first Im quite hesitant since I am not used to mixed dorms or inn everytime I travel but The receptionist was nice (Uncle Sam about 40-ish year old man I dont know if he's the owner), he told me that I must be very hungry so he offered tea or coffee and toast. He told me if I need anything more, I have to go out. He said that I should feel comfortable since it's what they want for their guests during their stay. Just to show how nice this man is, One of the guests was very drunk that morning so he puked all over the place, from the reception area, the lobby, wash area and the toilet. I know it's really gross cause one other guest almost puke upon seeing him( the guest who was drunk and who puked). Uncle Sam maintained his composure, still sounded nice although I know that he's controlling his temper and cleaned the place at 4am. I went straight to city tour with my friend who picked me up from the inn. I told them I wont use the bed since Ill be out early and will go straight to KL same day but asked them if I can do late check out (its no fun to ride mrt buses and tour the city with my luggage). Instead of 12pm, I arrived at Rucksack at 2pm due to heavy traffic since the roads are closed due to F1 Race. I was very apologetic and explained why but the lady receptionist said that its nothing to worry about. She's really nice too (she's Filipina anyway so its a plus!) Everything went perfect (except on the puke thingy), if I will go back to Singapore and will be tight on my budget, will definitely go back to Rucksack.
Second time in Rucksack and it's still awesome”
my 2nd time in rucksack inn @ lavender street. the great service from the staff and the envirovment is still so good in Rucksack inn. Oh ya there ar plenty of food nearby rucksack in
My review of the Rucksack Inn on Lavender Street”
Rucksack Inn is about 10 minutes from either MRT line. The staff are very helpful and the hostel is constantly being cleaned. They will do a full load of washing for you for $10 Singapore. Hostel is less than 5 minutes from convenience stores. Microwave oven in eating area besides 2 toasters. Hot/Cold water dispenser as well. 2 computers available for use. Good Wifi. Rahma and Suliman were great hosts. Would definitely return again.
Cathelyn Dizon from Philippines ”
We had a great time staying at the Rucksack Hotel, The staff was very helpful and friendly, no comment in breakfast because unlimited coffee, fresh fruit (orange) and tasty bread, Comport room was very clean, no need to wear slipper because the surroundings are very clean, the corridor smells good, rooms that are super clean and comfortable to sleep on... We never regret booking this Hotel if we visit Singapore we will stay again in RUCKSACK HOTEL more power….
