Friendly locals in an idyllic countryside”
Rumah Kayen was a little bit out of the way from the downtown area and the airport, but that was exactly what we were looking for. We wanted a nice getaway where we can see the sights but also feel like we are on a vacation (from Singapore), and being at Rumah Kayen was perfect. The staff was AMAZING! Friendly, always smiling, attentive and just goes out of their way to make sure you're having a good time (one of the staffers offered to go out to buy us beer when they ran out, and this was during a huge thunderstorm!). Jogja's downtown can be a bit crazed with all the traffic and people (especially around the Malioboro area) so coming back to the hotel was a welcome respite after a day of touring the sites. The hotel has a gazebo in their front yard where you can relax with a book or hang out with friends (they also have bicycles for rent, I believe, for you to see the neighborhood), and a pool in the back and a balcony on the second floor where you have a great view of the Indonesian countryside full of rice paddies. We watched an amazing thunderstorm from up there. There are no restaurants within walking distance that I saw, but the hotel will arrange for delivery to the hotel (and will even go pick it up for you if there is no delivery service. Seriously, the BEST hotel staff I've ever seen). I think being a bit far from the city center is the only drawback to this place, but they will arrange tours for you, call you a taxi and, for a relatively small fee, one of their staffers will drive you around. If you're looking for a relaxing spot with some of the friendliest, nicest people you'll meet, Rumah Kayen can't be beat! If I ever make it back to Jogja, I know where I will be staying!

Friendly staff and cozy environment make feel home”
The friendly staff at Rumah Kayen arrange us everything: pick-up from airport, hiking in Merapi, car rent to Borobudur, and dinner and laundry! Our nice homestay owner even send her driver to give me a free ride to the local supermarket for a shopping trip! We feel really like home and have a good time there!

Overall's awesome. The location is off from town.”
Overall is awesome but the location is a bit off from town area. So, you need taxi to be in and out from Rumah Kayen. Ask the staff to call for Taxi. They are able to get a very reasonable price for Taxi. The environment is serene. And the rice field view is awesome from the second floor. A suggestion to Rumah Kayen: prepare more hangers for clients.

Relaxing and quiet”
We booked 3 rooms, and there is only 7 rooms in the homestay. Our room had what I think was an extra-king size bed. My 4 year old and husband and I slept in it very comfortably! We also had our 5 month old in the travel cot (we brought our own cot). So the room was big enough to look after us all! Each room has its own bathroom, which are all modern and have hot water. Everything about the hotel is great. One of the rooms my father slept in smelt like a cat had peed in it, they were quick to try get rid of the smell by mopping and spraying, and it seemed to go almost. I know, had we asked, they would have swapped rooms for us. My other friends had a twin room, but asked to go into a queen bed room on the second night, and they happily accommodated as it had become available. The laundry service is great, it takes a day and only costs rp4000 a kilo (USA $0.40c). The breakfast is simple but delicious. We had the Nasi Kunyit once which was delicious, but I prefer western breakfasts, so the rest of the time I had the eggs on toast which was great, complete with mushrooms, onions, tomatoes etc. And all with fresh OJ. It is close to everything, but far enough out of the city centre so it is quiet. They have a driver/car service for only $55 a day (12 hours, includes driver petrol parking fees etc) which we had everyday and was good. I live in Indonesia and can highly recommend this place. I have stayed at 5 star hotels, and budget, and this place is the best place I have stayed in. My daughter swam in the pool everyday, we hung around and read books, played cards, went out at our leisure and ordered from their delivery menus for lunch and dinner which also was delicious (we always ask for 'tidak paket sasa' which means 'no msg', and there was no problem) and the juices always super fresh and not much added sugar (gula) if any. Staying here was the highlight of our trip to JOgja and we will recommend this place to everyone!

Hidden Gem”
Beautiful view of rice paddies where local kids fly homemade kites, this is a spacious, sprawling lovely country home/boutique hotel decorated with indonesian furniture and original artworks. The family here is a very nice middle-aged couple and the husband is a professional artist. The rooms are pretty seperate from the family abode and they respect your privacy while being accessible when you need them.(to call a taxi for instance) Pool is refreshing. The ginger infused Indonesian chicken soup Soto Ayam was especially nice on the breakfast options. The tuna sandwiches are good on the room service menu. At the edge of Jogyakarta, its a bit difficult to find and since they are starting out(I dont usually write reviews but there are none about them so I wanted to make the effort) They have a couple bicycles you can use..though one's brakes need to be repaired, to explore the country neighborhood...After figuring it out on google maps, we even made it to a very nice restaurant near the hyatt (pedol sedok?)avoiding the main roads on the bikes and much closer to the main road is a very simple decent restaurant. Some signs to the hotel from the main road and along the smaller streets would be helpful since it is hard to find the first time with taxi. A very lovely country escape at an amazing price, (away from the overcrowed touristy part of yogya) definately worth more than one star, though remember to bring your own shampoo.

Comfort Home Stay”
This is a homestay suitable for groups of family travelers. Only 7 rooms in the homestay, so if you have enough people, you can actually have the whole space and rooms just for your own group without others strangers disturbing. They have a nice balcony over see the padi field and its so windy where you can sit there chit chatting and enjoy the cozy wind. Staff are very helpful but we hardly call them as we can easily get what ever we want but they are ever ready stand by for you.

Quiet, Clean and Comfort Stay”
Is a superb homestay that I ever stay. I have add on an extra bed which they put in the family room which is more spacious but I requested it to put in a smaller room with two others single bed due to my group members preference. Without further question, the staff shifted the bed for me as per my request which I felt very happy as some of others hotel which they will insist on their room spacious will not allow you to add the extra bed in the smaller room. The hotel have 7 rooms which we took 6 rooms and the whole house is juts like ours whereby we can chit chatting, laugh and eat like in our own house without any other peoples disturbing us. The rooms are spacious and they have two living rooms upstairs and a nice balcony to view the padi field in front. Simple but delicious breakfast. I will stay here again if I ever go back.

cosy and artistic country hotel”
the owners are lovely and friendly people. husband is an artist with great inspirations on modern and contemporary arts. his beautiful diplays can be seen arround the hotel. hotel rooms are artistically design. very clean with equally clean attached toilets. the scenery outside the hotel is just as breathtaking as within. lovely open padi and maize fields. friendly and smiling country folks as neighbours. orchestra by the birds and insects could be heard day and night. give us an earthy feeling of well being. although small in size, the hotel could provide your necessary requirement. looking for a place to relax, this is the place.

Cheap if on promo”
Big room, clean pool, free water coffee tea, sitting area, unique bathroom, no breakfast, quiet place, the place is one alley next after the location in GPS, must ring a bell if you go out at night there's a guard beside the gate. Get a different room from my request but it's okay considering the price vs what i've got.

Comfortable and Cozy”
Amenities are basic but comfortable and clean. We occupied 5 of the 7 rooms. Though the other 2 rooms were also occupied. We feel the place is pretty much to ourselves, great privacy. Great place to stay for group vacation. The balcony is overlooking the padi fields. Very peaceful and away from the busy city life. Great restaurants within 15mins drive from hotel. Tastefully decorated. Breakfast is simple but good enough if you are not big eater. Value for money.

Excellent staff, home feel”
The staff is excellent and the house is very nice, with each room having its own veranda. The swimming pool is clean and pleasant. Rooms are clean and unique. The air condintioned functions well but one does not really need it. It is a little bit far from the city centre but taxis can be ordered at the reception desk (about 30-40.000 Rupiahs for a drive). The only inconvenient is that at 4:30 until 5 am one may hear the call for prayer from a mosque (which is not close but has loud speakers). With ear plugs this is no longer a problem.

Lovely guesthouse away from the hustle and bustle”
This guesthouse was quite far from the town area(30 to 40 thousand rupiah per trip by taxi) but to be honest, we preferred staying here then the city. Its really quiet and the view of the padi fields at the back is priceless. We had breakfast there earlier on before checking out and it was lovely. The air is really fresh too. They also have a lovely pool though we didnt swim in it. The staff are really friendly and also gave us info of a lot of places to visit and advice on our train tickets to Malang. They also helped us book a sunrise tour to Borobodur and gave us packed breakfast(choc cream cheese buns and orange juice). Do rent a bicycle and cycle around the area or walk inbetween the padi fields nearby. And have a go at the local 'warung' for Soto Ayam(Chicken) and iced tea. Such a lovely place, would definitely come back here with my family the next time round.
