Weekend Trip During the Off Season”
We decided to make a trip to Phu Ruea during the off season (rainy). My wife had always wanted to stay at Rungyen Resort so we made reservations through Agoda. The only rooms available on Agoda were the Superior ones even though looking the the resort's website, they had probably six different venues. Called the resort and were told, they only gave access to Agoda and other hotel booking agents a limited number of rooms, none of the better levels of rooms. When we arrive they did upgrade us one level to a bungalow. The room was acceptable other than he ants, which we went out and bought spray and took care of the problem. (The house keeping office said they did not use spray to kill the ants, did not feel necessary. The first night's bungalow with its 20-year old /c quit on us in the middle of the night. Also the fan was as loud as a freight train. We requested a changed in the room and got it immediately since WE WERE THE ONLY GUESTS AT THE RESORT!! The grounds of the resort are beautifully kept even though the resort was showing its age. It really needs to be upgraded and refurbished. The American breakfast was acceptable. If you pushed me hard, I would probably rate the facilities less than good overall. During the off-season, getting around Phu Ruea was easy, very little traffic. Did side trips to Dan Sai, Tha Li, the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge, and the High-Altitude Agricultural Station.

Highly recommended”
This resort has very clean and well-equipped rooms (TV, fridge, kettle, AC, etc.) surrounded by beautiful gardens. Nestled in the mountains of Loei, there are many country roads nearby for walking and / or cycling. The manager and his staff are all very friendly and helpful and able to advise on local beauty spots such as Wat Somdej Phu Ruea Ming Muang and Huai Krating Reservoir. The resort is best reached by leaving Phu Ruea via road number 21 and turning left after passing Chateau de Loei Restaurant ("milestone" #61).

Amazing isolated place”
The resort is quite isolated but with very well maintained gardens and in an amazing place. Nice view, peace and fresh air. We went there in low season and were the only customers. The resort does not have much to do, there is a small playground for kids and a very old tennis court. but we were happy just to enjoy a walk around. We have been upgraded to a larger room. The air-con was not working well but it was so fresh (even in April) that we did not really needed. Had very nice and not too expensive dinner at the restaurant. Breakfast was huge (2 eggs and sausage, bread and jam, fruit juice, big soup) for each of us (children included). I would definetely recommend!

Did NOT feel safe at this remote resort”
This remote resort is very far from the main road and far from Phu Rhua National Park. It is difficult to find. My room was a small concrete box without any decoration. There is no food available at the resort and the nearest village is many kilometers away. The night I stayed several men become very drunk and were screaming for 3-4 hours. They sounded like angry drunks and if I had a family with me, I would have packed up and left immediately, except it was the middle of the night. There was a foot path next to the windows of my room, and several people came by to look inside my room. I did NOT feel SAFE at this resort. Breakfast had a poor selection - I think only 2 or 3 items - and I couldn't wait to leave after a poor night's sleep. This is NOT a safe or comfortable place to visit.

Looking and feeling old”
This place is a little tired, not quite as the photo's suggest but still clean and tidy. As went in our winter was a bit cool and made me smile all patrons in coats in the restaurant. Menu translation not quiet there as ordered a non spicy meal for it to come out spicy but ok as they created one I could eat. Breakfast is basic, saddened that they have an egg chef who could only prepare fried eggs and not scrambled or an omelet on the griddle she as using. Overall not so bad.

非常に辺鄙な場所にあるリゾートホテル”
ピータコン祭りに参加するために宿泊しました。ピータコン祭りのあるダンサーイからは20～30キロも離れており、しかも、幹線道路からも随分と離れた場所にあるため、その移動に、バンコクでタクシーに乗ったりするのと比べ、高額の費用が必要でした。そういう意味でも、車を持ったファミリー向けのホテルであって、私のような一人旅には向かないかもしれません。 自然に囲まれたホテルなので、虫がいるのは仕方が無いのですが、部屋に食べ物を置いていると、何処からともなくアリが群がっているのには驚きました。
