Cozy and Clean Traditional Accommodation”
The owner and other staff were very kind to me. However, there was a firm side that was different from some people's expectations. The room looks a bit small, but it is spacious enough to have recreation if you clear the bedding. The mattress was a bit old, but it was okay because the covers and other bedding were clean. The inside of the room is very pretty. Depending on the direction of the room, Sensoji's pagoda comes into view. The hot spring is small and suitable for about two people. It is located right next to Sensoji, making it convenient for sightseeing, and the price is reasonable enough to overlook minor shortcomings. I was satisfied.

Exceptional”
Authentic traditional Japanese inn (Ryokan) at busiest tourist attraction in Asakusa. The room is very traditional, set up with old style tatami and futon. The ryokan was manned by elderly couple with sometimes part time foreigner staff. if this is your first time interacting with elderly Japanese, you might feel that their straightforward and efficient attitude looks impolite, but they are not meant to be rude. If you greet them every time passing by, they will give you sweet reply.

Perfect stay”
We couldn't have asked for a better stay here. Location is perfect - close to the train station, plenty of food and shops just outside, super quiet at night. The ryokan is also impeccably clean, and staff were very friendly. We could leave our bags here while waiting for check-in, and also after check-out. Loved our time here.

Great way to experience a ryokan if you prefer private bath”
Excellent location within the Asakusa district - less than 5 minutes walk from metro station, Senso-ji Temple, shops, and restaurants. We stayed in a Japanese style room with the tatami mats and futons. Room was clean and futons were comfortable. Green tea (with accompanying mugs) and sweet rice puff treats were provided, which was nice. Hotel also provided yukatas and slippers that can be worn around the hotel, including in the breakfast room. Japanese breakfast was delicious. If you decide to stay here I recommend you order it at least once. The staff, though their English was limited, was nice and helpful. The lady with the glasses was sweet. They provided plenty of resources for tourists. The rooms all have a private toilet and bath (private bathroom is small). If you do want to experience the traditional shared ofuro, the hotel has an area where you can shower yourself off and relax in the bath. I recommend this hotel and would be happy to stay here again.

Great place”
Room was nice with a great view, and the proprietor was friendly and had enough english to be understood. The top-floor bath was wonderful and the view was spectacular. It's within walking distance of a bunch of restaurants, a whole street of izakayas, a shopping street, and a nice temple. Breakfast was absolutely delicious. Overall, I'd highly recommend this place.

Old but well maintained ryokan”
I can really tell they take care of their ryokan so well. They look dated but well maintained 🇯🇵 inn. I agree that owner is grumpy but I also think his grumpiness is kinda cute. I tried to make him smile buy giving him a chocolate from Canada, he smiled a little and appreciated my gesture then back to grumpy. LOL I love the roof top hot bath. This ryokan is a rare find but the best find. Wish I could have stayed longer than 1 night. 😊

Perfect for a long layover”
Had a lovely stay, my first at a ryokan. Location is awesome (4 minute walk to Asakusa station, Senso-Ji within sight, right off the market). Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, explaining everything about the ryokan, from how to wear a yukata to bath etiquette. This was my first time staying in a traditional Japanese room, and the staff completely put me at ease, encouraging me to try new things. The facilities are spare but have all the essentials and nothing you don't need. The simplicity of the room actually made it feel larger and more peaceful. The baths were relaxing, and there is a lot to do in the area, and even at night. Highly recommend for a long layover if you want to see a slice of Tokyo and traditional Japanese living.

A super great stay in ryokan at the old quarter of Tokyo!”
If you seek a ryokan with a reasonable price where you can experience a Futon bed, tatami floor, ensuite bathroom and onsen with a view of Tokyo Skytree, This is a place you can not missed!!! Staffs are all nice and can communicate in English (atleast some basic words) but I met Ms. Hirao who is a front officer and she was a helpful, nice person to me and she also gave me many information about nearby interesting places in Asakusa area. I will come to stay in this ryokan again for sure!!!

Location Location Location”
The Shigetsu Ryokan is a nice place to stay because of its location. The rooms are clean and the staff very accommodating. The one big problem in the traditional Japanese rooms is the sleeping mat. I have stayed at ryokans and machiyas in the past, and these mats are not comfortable at all. Why not include a traditional futon? This is a great hotel in terms of its location in the city...cannot go wrong with this choice!

beautiful hotel in amazing location”
I really loved this hotel. The room was in Japanese style, with futon and low table (though astoundingly large for a Tokyo hotel room!), but with an en-suite western-style bathroom - and fast in-room wifi. The location is fantastic: in gentle Asakusa, two minutes from the Sensoji temple complex and Nakamise Dori, but also right around busy urban streets. And only about 5 minutes from a subway station. Best of all are the staff, who speak excellent English (but nevertheless show great patience to foreigners who insist upon practicing rusty Japanese) and are incredibly friendly and willing to help. This is without question one of the best hotels I've stayed at in Japan, or really anywhere, and I'll definitely come back again.

Great location, nice room, but low cost”
it would be difficult to find a hotel closer to the asakusa temple with it's shopping street. you are right there. the hotel is in one of the little nested roads around the temple. it is a pedestrian zone, but taxis can pull up right in front. don't forget to reserve one if you mind a two minutes walk to the main street, e.g. if you have heavy luggage. a small hotel. family owned, i guess. and you feel that you are staying with friends. although only a single room, it was much larger than other accommodations i had in this area before. and very quiet at night. paper screens and tatami mats make you really feel in japan, although you have all the amenities of a western style hotel. elevator, tv and water heater for your tea or coffee in your room, and yes you have a separate bathroom. the room included breakfast, but i had to leave too early in the morning. restaurants, well asakusa has 3000 restaurants, i was told, many of them really close, even 24 hour ones, including real, japanese sushi places. i didn't want to spend much money on the room for the short stay. now i am happy that i didn't. the hotel just makes you want to come back.

Super location and more than helpful staff. ”
We stayed 3 nights at Ryokan Asakusa. We arrived very late at night but got access. The futons were surprisingly comfortable and nice shower- also it is very quiet and peaceful in the ryokan. When you step outside you are in a lovely neighbourhood area. We didn’t try breakfast so can’t comment. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

Excellent Ryokan Close to Senso-ji”
After experiencing a 5.3 magnitude earthquake at this Ryokan, I can say it safes........ha ha!! An excellent location only one minute walk to Senso-ji Temple, fabulous shopping, a short Rickshaw ride to Sky-tree, and 200m to the train station. The traditional rooms have tatami maps and sleeping on the floor is very comfortable. Amenities such as S&C, hair dryer, toothbrush & paste, hair brush and coffee/tea are all provided. Staff are extremely helpful and so polite, which is so refreshing. If you are looking for a Western experience do not book this property, however if you want to experience a traditional Japanese Ryokan, close to fabulous attractions and experience sleeping on Tatami maps this place is perfect.

Just lovely ”
Just lovely... If you need to experience the ryokan (Japanese inn) stay, please stay in one of the Japanese designed rooms here. The place is also close to so many things and right in front of the Sensoji temple. Extremely good value for the money if you think of how much time you save travelling back and forth in Tokyo

A Step Back into Time ”
First, the location is central to everything in Asakusa—everything. Second, the service was genuinely warm, inviting, and thorough. Lastly, staying at this ryokan was an absolute gem because I had a chance to feel what it was like living in a bygone era of Japan. Truly, it was priceless!
