Lovely countryside ryokan experience ”
Owner was super helpful and helped with our check in past 10pm. Rental bicycles were provided FOC. Futons were comfortable and beautiful yukuta were given for our stay. Very pleased with the stay.

Winter/Covid made it feel dead.”
Perhaps because of these two factors the Inn seemed un-lived in. It was still very comfortable however! Probably the best futon I’ve ever slept on. But the bath wasn’t full to the brim like usual sentō, and the rooms seemed unoccupied and forgotten. I think too, the room had a mix of traditional vibe, but also weird modern renovations - all throughout the house. Perhaps in the warmer months it’d be better.

Good ryokan ”
If you are the person who doesn’t stay at the hotel and prefers walking through the city, this is the place to stay over. Relaxing at the ofuro and have a good sleeping in futon. You also have a fridge, tea, and hot water in your room.

Excellent”
A little far from the station and attractions, but great value for money. Big rooms, very clean.

Cheap traditional Japanese inn”
Place is a traditional Japanese inn, not too far from the station (10min walking) and the city center (15-20min). Rooms are spacious and clean enough, but the place should be renewed. Compared to other similar places, price was cheaper.

An authentic ryokan with lovely hosts”
We stayed overnight in this lovely ryokan on the outskirts of central Matsumoto. The traditional room was spacious, clean and comfortable, and we loved the tea served to our room on arrival. The hosts, while not fluent in English, were warm and welcoming, and checking and out was no problem. There is a traditional bath/shower room. It's located in a quiet residential area, although light sleepers should account for light and/or noise coming in through the traditional window coverings (our room did not have blockout curtains). It is within walking distance from the Matsumoto transit centres, however if you have a lot of luggage you might consider a taxi. Getting to and from the main sights, shopping and eating districts in Matsumoto was very easy, and the extra distance from the centre of town to this riverside spot was definitely welcomed after our three days in central Tokyo. Overall, a great experience and would recommend this ryokan as a small taste of traditional Japan.

Best hotel in my 14 days trip to Japan”
This is the best hotel I have stayed in my 14 days in Japan although the price I paid is much less than other hotels. Family-run hotel with traditional Japanese style rooms. Easy to walk from the Matsumoto train station, shopping areas and the castle. My room is brand new, very big and very clean with a big 32 inch TV. Room heater is very warm. Common toilets are spotlessly clean at all times. Mr. Matsukaze and his lovely family went all out to make my stay here comfortable which I appreciate very much. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to experience Japanese hospitality at its best.

Such a warm and courteous host! Loved Ryokan Matsukaze”
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Close to Station restaurants and rental cars, but quiet away from the bright lights and noise. Ryokan Matsukaze is located in a quaint neighborhood. Bikes available to explore and go to the station or town to eat and explore. Short walk from the station. Hosts are so welcoming, friendly, courteous and helpful! This was a wonderful Japanese style hotel. The remodeled showers and share toilets were so clean and modern. There is also a Japanese bath in their annex facility. Washers available were a great plus after 2 weeks of traveling. If you need extra bed padding, just ask. Tea and Yukata's in the room on arrival. We loved our hosts, they were so wonderful; helping us figure out the Ryokan, getting us to the car rental in the morning, etc. Ryokan Matsukaze is a fantastic value for traditional Japanese Style stay.

A cheap, simple and 100% Japan culture experience.”
A cheap, simple and 100% Japan culture experience. 10-15mins walk from Matsumoto station. Located beside a river . Quite and friendly place. Two route to reach the place from Matsumoto station. Alps Exit(West Exit) - a bit longer but you don't need to climb stair Oshiro Exit(East Exit) - need to carried your luggage up and down the overhead bridge There is a lady who can speak a little English but she is only around in the morning. I stayed 5 nights in a 6 tatami mats room with a TV, a small refrigerator and a decent size table. Just the right size for a solo traveller. Shared toilet and basin area are right beside the my room. Free Wifi. The bathroom and dressing room are connected by a door so when you bath you lock the dressing room door and have the whole place to yourself. Traditional Japanese bathroom style with a hot spring bath tub able to fit at least two people. Located at level one right behind the resection area. Asked for a pickup from Matsumoto station when I arrived but they didn't replay my email. When I'm leaving I manage to ask them to send me to the station.

A comfortable and Relaxing experience”
A very cosy stay in this Ryokan with very friendly and approachable hosts (though only speaks Japanese and minimal English). The location of the ryokan is slightly away from the main city which requires an approximate 10mins walk to the JR Matsumoto station. Recommend to drive if you are planning to stay here. Parking is also available at the vicinity and it's free. Amenities were equipped with bath towel and small towel, showering soap and shampoo, hairdryer and yukata. The room is also comfortable for 3 and a TV is available in the room! Checking in and out is also super easy and hassle-free. Will recommend this place to all if you're looking for a comfortable stay and yet affordable experience!

Friendly ryokan!”
It takes 20 minutes by walk to get to this inn from Matsumoto station. If you don't bring many luggages then it's fine. If you're not, then using a Taxi is a wise choice. Even though is not very far, it will be hard to find this Ryokan without GPS. The owner was very friendly. Even he can't speak English, he tried very hard to understand what i want. I reserved a small room for one futon, and it was very clean and neat. They don't serve breakfast, and convenient store located quite far from there. So you might want to buy some ransom in the city before go back to Ryokan. Above all, it was fantastic!

Quiet ryokan with great bath”
The ryokan is quite a distance from Matsumoto station. When we first arrived, the lady owner checked the 3 of us into a room that can barely fit us in. The next morning we requested the man owner to change and we were given a bigger, much comfortable room. Although he can barely speak English he is very kind and even let us use the washing machines for free and showed us where to dry our clothes. The room comes with TV, green tea & hot water heater/thermos (sometimes they leave us the thermos) & small fridge. Clean towels & yukata are given daily. They have a great bath in the next building which we love. The man owner is very kind and drove us to the station when we checked out as it was raining. We also found a gem restaurant nearby - the food was great and we loved the couple who run the place - they even served us 2 dishes on the house!

One of the best places I’ve stayed during my trip in Japan.”
Staff were very polite and provided excellent customer service from the moment we arrived, and spared no effort in explaining the check-in procedures because we booked different rooms on multiple days even though there was slight language barrier. Shared indoor onsen bath was a further bonus. Futon mattresses were thick and comfy in a rather spacious room as well. Definite value for money & would return here on my next trip to Matsumoto!

Big Room, Clean, Friendly Owners, A Total Mess”
ended up staying there two nights. big, nice, really clean room. absolutely no english speaking but really friendly owner, his mom and dad. got a free ride to the jr station (which is a good 10 minute walk away) on the day of leaving. the room had a tv, a refrigerator. did not ask for wifi but i am sure they have it. clean bathrooms. in our part of the sprawling house there was no one else and hence felt like a private suite with a huge terrace where we hung our laundry. our friends had a huge room even in american standard. however, the entire place was a complete mess as if someone is moving out. all sorts of electronics including huge, old tvs, speakers, furniture, drink machines, statues, about 40 pairs of shoes (we the 4 guests had 4 pairs and there was no other guest for one night), everything was in the reception area. someone does not know how to dispose of bulk items or cannot part with it. the microwave was plugged in with a 20 feet extension cord in the middle of it all. there was even a drum that can be played to get service. i am not kidding. the price was superb and i will stay there again if i go back to matsumoto.

value for money with friendly and helpful staff”
Cons: Matsukaze is a bit far off from the Matsumoto JR station, also the town center, especially for those dragging luggage cases. There is apparently hotel pick-up from the JR station, but that didn't work out so well for us. The hotel had lost our reservation, but after confirming that we did reserve, they managed to make space for us by cancelling the reservation of another group who had yet to arrive. Pros: The hotel is quiet (though sounds do tend to travel easily between rooms) and the location was beautiful. The room we got was very spacious, which was a nice change from the cramped rooms we got in the other cities on a similar budget. The rooms were provided with tea and yukata. The staff was very friendly, though the ability to speak Japanese is probably a necessity.

This is the place to stay in Matsumoto!”
This place is a gem! I've stayed in dozens of hotels and ryokan all over Japan, and this one is absolutely the best. It is so clean that it makes the others look shabby. Seriously—this place is as sanitized as a hospital. The photos don't do justice... to be honest I expected it to be a little run-down, but it's ultramodern. The bath is really cool! And the staff could not be nicer. The women at the front desk were funny and friendly, with lots of personality. The neighborhood is quiet, but a 15 minute walk from the train station. Loved it!

Excellent”
This excellent little family run place has lovely rooms and is reasonably close to Matsumoto sights and train station. The staff are very kind and helpful, although they speak limited English. Washrooms are shared but high tech and very clean.
