super nice hot spring resorts!”

It was a fantastic experience to enjoy the outdoor hot spring with snow view. miyama ouan is super nice hotel with the BEST hot spring experience I had in Japan, even better than hakong and Hokkaido. The food in hotel is very delicious, and they provided free local milk and Raman for customers in different hours. The best is the outdoor hot spring and private hot spring. Love this place and I definitely will come back! Ps. I recommend to stay at least 2days as the transfer from Takayama city to hotel is not very convenient.

Fantastic Japanese experience in the mountains”

Japanese cultural experience

When we first arrived in Takayama we were surprised to find that the hotel was an hour bus ride away. However, it turned out to be one of our best experiences in Japan. The hotel was situated inside the snow fields. Whilst the temperature in Takayama was 33% the hotel area was only 19%. This meant we could enjoy the hot mineral baths especially the outdoor ones. The staff were fantastic and I would fully recommend having dinner at the hotel. We were served eight course meals which were amazing. We stayed two nights and the meals differed each night. We stayed in the Japanese Western rooms which were very spacious with lounge and separate bedroom and large bathroom with tub bath. We took a day trip to Takayama which is a really nice place but we were glad to get back to the hotel to enjoy this place.

Nice ryokan with good services and nice onsen”

We stayed for 4 nights and were very happy with our stay. The ryokan is very clean and well kept. The breakfast was plentiful (Japanese style). The ryokan arranges free shuttle rides to Kamikochi but they don't start very early in the morning and might be already booked if not booked in advance. But the public bus station is just a 5 min walk away and there are buses to Kamikochi every half an hour or so. In Kamikochi if you are looking for a hike in adddition to walking the main routes along the Azusa river, try the hike to Dakesawa hut. It can be well done in one day, it took us 2,5 hours to climb up (our children are 12 and 14 years). With small children the hike might be a bit too challenging (vertical rise about 650 m). The main onsen at the Miyami Ouan ryokan was really nice, with own sides for women and men. There are also private onsens that you can reserve. The ryokan also provides free Huda milk (delicious) and free ramen at 10 pm every night (also delicious).

Good traditional stay ”

The staff spoke different levels of English but were always incredibly polite and helpful. They were accommodating to my special dietary request (vegetarian), just be sure to let them know as soon as you get to the hotel. It helps if you can communicate in very basic (even if it’s broken) Japanese. The private onsen and in-room bath were a delight. Great relaxing stay. Wouldn’t recommend if you want to explore the Takayama area as it’s a 60 min bus trip from the main town. However it was only half an hour from the Shinhotaka Ropway which can’t be missed.

the 1 hour bus trip from Takayama to Hirayu where the resort hotel with private & public hot springs was definately worth it - Japenese -breakfast was a great experience but if you wanted dinner this was A$80 per person - there were other cheap restaurants in the area - excellent service and beautiful location for winter - very relaxing and kimino & other Japanese dress supplied free - a great experience and location

Private onsen, delicious breakfasts

We were fortunate to have stayed and experienced the great service this property had to offer. Staff were friendly with minimum spoken English but extremely polite. Breakfast was scrumptious served in a room with spectacular views. Ramen was served every night at 9.30 compliment of the Ryokan. The highlight was the private onsen for couples. Water is clean. You can only book on the day of usage no advance booking allowed. The bathroom is clean. Easy walking distance to the main bus stop, alternatively you can use the free shuttle bus from the Ryokan. My husband and I loved the whole package this Ryokan offered and enjoyed our experience tremendously. We will definitely return to this Ryokan again.

Beautiful onsen”

Firstly this property is about 40 minutes out of Takayama by bus, they run fairly regularly. The onsen is a amazing and the breakfast and dinner is of a high standard. The only thing I did not like was the onsen closed from 10am until 3pm. They said it was for cleaning but that is a long clean. There is free coffee in the smoking room but you can not sit there due to the smell. I sat outside with my coffee. Mostly it is a wonderful experience there

great onsen-hotel at awesome location”

high service-level, great food, peaceful atmosphere

From the very beginning that one of the hoteliers was awaiting us in the freezing November cold, this was an excellent stay. The hotel doesn't carry the name 'Ryokan' but in everything it sets a very high quality of (Japanese styled) service, which means extremely friendly behavior of the staff. The food, and the explanation of it, was of a very high level, and though it was not cheap it was really worth every yen. The rooms are semi-western, semi-Japanese and are very new and tidy. Combined with the natural surroundings and the splendid view it is great value and one of our best overnight experiences in Japan.

Best vacation ever!!!”

Food, comfort, beauty

Loved the stay here! The rooms were large and beautiful. Felt like being in a spa. The food was delicious! We would look forward to the breakfast and dinners in the restaurant. Chefs were very creative and the whole experience and quality of the food felt like fine dining. Loved the late night ramen, although the dinner was sooooo filling that we were still full by the time the ramen was served. Walking around the ryokan can sometimes feel like a maze but once you get used to it, it's not so bad and everywhere you go can seem like an adventure. It's a bit pricey and we needed to catch a public bus to get there, but if you are willing to splurge a little, you won't regret it! I would definitely go here again!

This was a wonderful ryokan to stay at! Would definitely stay here again.”

We booked a traditional Japanese room because all the Western style rooms were booked. What a wonderful surprise that was! The included breakfast was Japanese food only. We were not fans of the breakfast, but hey, we were in Japan in a lovely ryokan. Not going to complain! Would definitely stay here again! Also, the staff were so nice and patient with us non-speaking Japanese.

The food experience at the hotel is amazing, get the breakfast and dinner package with your room rate. The hot spring baths are great, however they close during the day for cleaning 10am to 3pm. It seems a long time to clean. There is a very good public hot spring baths in a hotel near the bus station, go there during the day. The rooms vary depending on what you pay for. The coffee machine room has now been made non smoking, as last time I was there you had to run in and block your nose as it stank in there, as I don’t smoke I’m not sure where they make the smokers go now. The price for the hotel is not cheap but worth the experience

Stayed 2 nights in February 2018

Good”

Staff r helpful and polite. Shuttle van provided to and fro bus terminal to ryokan. Snow boots and other tools for activities in the winter provided though we didn’t use them. Very yummy free milk from 3-10pm though free soba is a bit too late 10-11pm. Missed communication with the staff when we arrived at bus terminal . We were told to wait for 2-3 min for the car after contacting them on phone , not knowing it was a van. We were not picked up and waited for total of 20min under freezing weather ( 20th Feb) before the next van after contacting them again ( bad experience) Private public bath r chargeable but we were not informed . Not told the cloth provided for public bath is for floor mat . The dinner at ryokan r generally yummy except seafood sabu sabu which I ordered the 2nd night , the sliced fish and prawn r quite tasteless and very hard , such a let down . With the price we paid per night , I would expect a better experience though overall experience r good .
