Great Location and Genuine Host ”
They got great location - minutes away from down town tokyo and markets. Nth fancy but great value for money. Unfortunately i got sick and the ryokan host was kind enough to walk me to a near by clinic and she genuinely wanted to assist. Definitely a great option if you are looking for a basic ryokan experience which is close to all the action in Kyoto. 👍🏽👌🏽

Exceptional”
It was my first Ryokan experience. And my last, I'm sorry to say. As a man of 1.92cm (6ft 4in) I had a hard time fitting in. Sitting at the very low table was increasingly uncomfortable, switching between sitting positions didn't help much and never for long. As there was no place to put my belongings everything was on the floor (some of it on the table). Walls are very thin so you should be quiet. Skype chatting with my wife back in Europe was therefore complicated at night. But the poor WiFi didn't support a steady communication anyway. Staff is very friendly. No breaktfast available.

Friendly staff, good location”
Happiest lady owns this place! Loves kids. Very thin walls though as usual in Ryokan. We managed very well with a 10month old baby. Quiet!

Dated Ryokan with Fantastic Location and Helpful Staff ”
The main drawback was the dated and old facilities which made the entire stay experience less pleasant. A steep climb to 2nd level will be challenging for elderly folks. Compensating the cons is its superb location and very helpful staff.

Kyoto Sightseeing”
The ryokan is located near to subway station Shijo in central Kyoto, which is good for sightsseing and some restaurants are in close vicinity. The hotel sits next to the street which will be heard from the rooms. The service of the hotel is very reactive. The ryokan is of considerable age and could do with some refurbishment. Rooms are Japanese style with tatami mats but NO private toilet or bath. No meals.

Very friendly staff and traditional Japanese experience”
Fantastic location in a quiet street in the heart of Kyoto. Room was large, especially for Japanese standards. Toilet and bathroom were in the common areas, but very clean and tidy. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Nice tea was provided in the room.

Quite old but pretty great cleanliness”
The moment I arrived I was disappointed by the photo I saw in this page. I thought it would be newly constructed. The house is exactly what you see in those picts but the actual one is old, the real antique japanese house (ryokan), which I consider it is suitable for those who are looking for authentic japanese living. I can sense real japanese culture from every furnitures of this house. However, house is extremely cleaned and well organised. The auntie who owns this house is very strict. Tourist must follows the rules in japanese house. But she is very hospitable and treats pretty nice to me. Only one thing that I am not satisfied is sharing of the bathroom and toilet, which is separted to different rooms. But it's still even cleaner than my bathroom. The sleeping futon is clean and fluffy. I love it. The location is extremely valuable. Though it is not that close to Kyoto stn. But there are more nearby attractions. There are two main ways to access. From Shijo-dori rd. , you have to walk through Takakura-dori alley a bit far (but not that much) . The bus stops (Shijo rd.) are also very close and convenient. From here, you can simply walk to Daimaru department store, Nishiki market, Shijo Shopping street, and Gion. For those who enjoy walking, I strongly recommend to walk to Yasaka shrine and head on to Kiyomitzu, there are lots of things you must see. The other access is from shijo stn., the nearest subway. To sum up, I am really impressed and enjoyed throughout my stay. For sure, I will come back to Kyoto city again and will stay here next time. It's worth enogh to give it a try. :)

Lovely experience!”
We had a really lovely stay at Ryokan Nakajimaya! The two ladies that run the place were very hospitable, the location was fantastic, and the facilities superb! The only downside was that we had to pay an extra 14000 yen for our two children who are 4 and 1, we could have just all slept on the two futons without the extra one added. It was a lovely experience, but not that kid friendly; however, the ladies loved our kids and made our stay very comfortable. We would definitely recommend staying in this part of Kyoto as it is close to the main attractions and we loved Niskiki Markets! Definitely worth it for the experience :)

Conflicted”
The owner is a very nice and friendly woman. There is even tea each time we return to the room, which was very heartwarming to see. However, as i book a room for 1 by mistake, we had to top up about $7k yen additional on top of what was already paid for, which we felt really wasn't very value for money - but it was my mistake after all. Hence, quite conflicted about this Ryokan. Location wise, it is walking distance to Nishiki Food Market, and there's a direct bus to Kinkakuji a few streets away. The experience however, was very interesting and i might recommend budget travellers to stay at this Ryokan.
