Spacious, great service and scenic location.”
The ryokan was one of the most memorable place from the trip. A breezy walk through Hakone-Yumoto through the small town and river, our room for 4 was equipped with an extremely comfortable Kotatsu, where we spent the night chilling with beer and snacks from a nearby convenience store. You don't even need the in-hotel meals as nearby there are a lot of restaurants including some famous soba restaurants and a very affordable yakiniku (BBQ) place. Especially great for young travellers who enjoy walks along beautiful Hakone. The only minor complaint is that the onsen could be bigger and could provide more amenities like massage chair and bathing area. Overall still an extremely pleasant experience. Special mention to the manager who drove us to the station on our check-out morning even before the scheduled shuttle time, as it was raining outside and taxi was hard to get.

Lovely ryokan in Hakone! ”
We love the warmth and kindness of the staff They make us feel welcomed and hey were genuine and nice. The room in Hotel Senkei Plaza, we were able to adjust the temperature for the night, so we were kept warm and comfortable. We love the quiet and beautiful surroundings. The nearby Sukumo River was spectacular with its cascading waterfall flows. Awesome river sights! We feel rested and feel good thru out our stay. Hakone is a quiet onsen town and frm 8pm onwards, most shops are closed, except for 2 Konbinis (convenience stores) and a few small eateries.

Good location, amazing rooftop Onsen”
Please check out their rooftop onsen. you can have a great view on the mountains surrounding hakone yumoto village!! The vieiw is amazing and also the way going up to this rooftop onsen is a bit like climbing a rock mountain to find a temple on the top, from classic Chinese stories, with lovely bridges and a pond. The hotel is about 10min walk from the train station. it is quite pleasant walk along the river.

We enjoyed our stay!”
We were worried after reading the reviews. However, we were satisfied with our stay for one night. The room is spacious and comfortable. We stayed on 4th floor and there is lift access. There was a decent ramen shop located right next to the ryokan. We enjoyed the onsen too. Wifi is only available at the lounge. No wifi in the room. Good service from the staff too.

Very good”
Our room was spacious with two twin beds and a tatami sitting area. It was quiet and clean. We were provided with yukatas ( Japanese robe) which we really enjoyed wearing and walking around the hotel in. I especially enjoyed the hot spring in the hotel. The staff was polite somewhat stoic. Senkei Plaza inn is around 10- 15 mins walk from the the nearest train station Hakone-yumoto. We had to walk to the hotel because we arrived at 7:30 pm and the shuttle bus was only up to 5:45pm. Most of the establishments in the vicinity closes at 7 pm but you can find some restaurants still open for dinner. The downside to this hotel is that WiFi is only available in the lobby which was in a separate building. It’s a good thing they provided free shuttle to the train station upon check out. We were not able to take the rope way to Owakudani because the volcano was spewing and we were told it was not available since May 2019. On the whole Hakone is a very relaxing place to experience nature.

Decent for price”
Be prepared for a good cardio workout with a 900m uphill walk from the main train station. There is also no wifi in the rooms, with wireless internet only available in the lobby. The staff are however very friendly and hospitable, and the rooms are spacious and clean!

The Room, Facilities and service are not up on par with the room tariff paid ”
There's no elevator although we were given a room on the 3rd floor. The free WiFi is only restricted to the reception area and none in the room. The futan provided has not cover, is very old and is only about 1 inch thick. The hot water from the tap was brown in colour and we had to run it for about 5 mind before it cleared up.

Can you even call this a ryokan?”
It felt more like a motel. A common bath, which was quite dated and dirty. A room that was dated, and spiders in the room. Asked to have a large bed as this was supposed to be a romantic vacation for a couple, but was given separate twin beds. If your on the 4th floor with luggage, good luck.

Convenient, Excellent food, Staff who goes beyond and above”
Ryokan Senkei is about 15 minutes stroll from Hakone Yumoto Station and is servicable by a 100 yen per person shuttle bus that departs Hakone Yumoto station every half an hour. My room was in excellent condition and well equipped with cups for different drinks (i.e. hot tea, sake, water). Upon checking in, my parents and I were served snacks by a friendly lady who immediately made us feel at home. The best food that we had for our trip was probably served by Ryokan Senkei. The portion of food was generous and absolutely yummy. We were incredibly stuffed by the end of each meal. :) And the most commendable about the staff was when they went beyond and above to get ice for my mom who had sprained her finger, applied the cold compression for her and even checked on her condition the next day. Totally recommend this ryokan!!!

Really beautiful stay with wonderful hospitality”
We rented a Japanese-style villa at the Annex Yamagoso Senkei, so we had access to the private onsen that allowed for couples to use. The private onsen was available 24/7 whereas the public one that was separated by genders was only open for certain hours of the day. You-san, was our ryokan hostess and she was so sweet and attentive with the placement of our dishes and bedding. We were greeted with green tea and tea cakes upon arrival and given a choice of what time we wanted to have our dinner. Dinner was an unbelievable 7-course meal that we could barely finish. After dinner, the staff came in to set up the futons in our sleeping area and we were given privacy for the remainder of the night to enjoy the two private patios our ryokan had. In the morning, You-san served us a large Japanese-style breakfast. We took the Romance Car (it's actually a bus) to the Hakone-Tozan station and from there took the hotel shuttle ($1/fare) to the ryokan.

Romantic and Beautiful Stay at Hakone”
It was indeed wonderful stay with attentive, accommodating and polite staff. I went with slight apprehension based on the reviews here. But my worries were unfounded. There was a frontline old gentleman whom was described as grumpy and rude but we found him very friendly and was very helpful in providing us with directions (perhaps we met not the one mentioned). The dinner and breakfast provided were also extremely plentiful such that we had a hard time finishing them. It may be a little difficult for one though as the food served are really traditional Japanese style. Due to language barrier with the serving lady, we were unable to identify most of the dishes served though. We didn't try the public onsen (we were a little embarrassed to soak in nude with strangers) and only had the private baths in our rooms. Like what one of the reviewers said, the water to the tub did take a long while. I guess this is acceptable considering that the water is being pumped from ground onsen to the taps. The walk to Hakone station itself is not far (about 10 mins). We took the walk while carrying out beautiful sightseeing of nature (blooming sakura!). The temperature was low during our stay (less than 10deg) but we felt very comfortable in the room with the heater on. So I disagreed with one of the reviewers whom felt the rooms were too cold. Overall, wonderful place! We felt very welcomed!

Relaxing, pampered and wonderful ”
Our stay at the hotel senkei was the highlight of our trip to japan. The staff was amazingly attentive and the dinner and breakfast were both visually stunning and absolutely delicious! I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again and would recommend it to anyone staying overnight in Hakone.

Two different properties”
Senkei has two different properties. One is a Japanese style ryokan, and the other is Senkei Plaza Inn which is more like a regular hotel. I stayed in one of the plaza rooms, and it was good. It seemed they renovated it recently. Clean and spacious. The only downside was that the 4-story building had no elevator, but the bellboy carried my luggage up. They have a small open-air bath which needs some maintenance, but it has a nice view of mountains.
