What I've Imagined Japan Being Like”
We traveled for two months but before we set out to our adventure we realized that when we return home we had a 20hr layover in Japan so automatically imagined that the airline would check our bags in all the way back home. Because of the long layover we decided to instead of sitting around the airport we would venture out to Narita and check out the town, I had heard it was quite of mystical town so we started researching for hotels. We stumbled upon Wakamatsu Honten and let me tell you it is located right across the street of this beautiful Buddhist temple. I am very glad I booked this honten, it exactly what I imagined Japan, it is the true Japan, a civilization so far ahead then everyone else. And this Honten in none the less exquisite, the dinner display to cleanliness, the staff is very welcoming and helpful going above and beyond. Easy to get to from the JR Narita station which is only 10min for the Airport. The honten bath was amazing and with their help at check in it was very easy to follow the traditional ways of the Japanese bath. Wakamatsu helped our 13 hour flight turn to a piece of cake. Thank you Wakamatsu Honten for hosting us in such a brilliant way, kind and wonderful.

A feel of traditional Japanese hospitality!”
I was on a two-day trip to Japan and the experience of this establishment was the highlight of my trip: spotlessly clean big-size tatami floor room, wonderful traditional breakfast, kindness of the staff (receptionists and housekeepers) and its location across the road from the grounds of Narita-san Shinsouji Temple. Having lived in Japan for several years and having stayed in many different ryokans, I was so impressed with the authenticity of Wakamatsu Honten! Its public bath (ofuro) is a must for a visitor; I was lucky to have had it all to myself. There is a small shop on the ground floor selling typical Japanese sweets, osenbei crackers and pickled vegetables. The staff members are very attentive and courteous! Guests are presented with a cute leaflet in English explaining the etiquette and the correct use of the facilities. I was offered to leave my bag at the reception before departure; on my return, I found it covered with a white cloth and a card atop of it with my name neatly written on it! One thing to bear in mind is the check-in time (15:00). I arrived on an early flight and had to wait in the reception area for 3 hours for my room. The lobby is a smoking area and it did feel rather unpleasant when people would stop by to have a cigarette. I would highly reccommend this property and will most definitely return and stay again on my future trips! It might be a bit more expensive than staying in nearby hotels (micro-sized rooms with no charm), but the experience is unmatched!

It was a wonderful experience for a first timer like us and we will not hesitate to visit the place ”
Please tell your guest to get off the train station at Narita because your place is walking distance from the rail way station. In our case, we were ill advised to go to Narita Airport and take a cab going to your place which is very far. Had we been properly instructed, we could have certainly save time, money and effort. Anyway, the wonderful experience that we finally got, somehow, off-setted the unpleasantness of our travel trivia. Hope, others will not encounter the same bad travel experience that we did in going to Wakamatsu Honten.

Perfect Japanese Ending”
Wakamatsu was the perfect end to our three week trip by cruise around the ports of Japan and four days in Tokyo. We took the Airport Limo Bus from our hotel and a taxi to Wakamatsu - very reasonable. Wakamatsu is located across from one of the most beautiful buddhist temples (Naritasan) we saw on our visit. As we walked its grounds at night, we took marvelous photos. Also, Wakamatsu is located on a charming street of shops and restaurants. We chose the (expensive) wonderful dinner at the hoten but there are many places to eat just up the street. Though the staff does not speak much English, we communicated well and were very happy with their attentive service. Our room looked out on the temple and though on a busy street, no noise and we slept well. We truly enjoyed the immersion is a traditional Japanese atmosphere on our last day and night. It even rained for us...and we enjoyed walking and shopping in the rain before we left. So glad we did this!

Wakamatsu Honten Ryokan is wonderful. ”
The only less positive point about our stay in Wakamatsu Honten ryokan was that we had to leave. Our granddaughters asked for another week. If we could, we would have stayed there much longer. It is great !!! The temple is just across the street, so you can start the day early with a visit before the crowd is coming. I made a mistake with our booking but the staff resolved the problem in a very good way. Surely we will stay there again and again.

One of the highlights in my Tokyo vacation!”
Wakamatsu Honten is quite impressive. The staff was very friendly, attentive and very helpful. A lovely staff member took me to my room where she served me tea and Japanese sweets. I was given a fabulous room with the view of the beautiful Naritasan Shinshoji Temple. The room was very clean and neat. It was both traditional with the tasteful Japanese décor, tatami floor, rakuten and modern with TV, free wifi and that amazing Japanese toire. Because the futon bed and comforter was very comfortable, I had a good night sleep on the two nights I stayed there. And love the onsen. It was one of the highlights of my stay at this amazing Japanese inn. Soaking in hot water was so relaxing. They also provided everything from shampoo, hair conditioner and a lovely body wash that left my skin soft to toothbrush and a comfortable yukata to wear during my stay. And I had one of the best meals here. I ate one kaiseki meal at dinnertime. It was very delicious (oishi!!!) and it had the most lovely autumn color dishes to match the season. And unagi was superb! Arigato gozaimasu I had a wonderful time and a very lovely experience!

Nice traditional feel ryokan”
Great experience of ryokan, eating in your private room, sleeping on the floor and bathing in the public bath (there is a private bathroom if your uncomfortable with bathing with strangers but it's fun to bath inside the public bath, spacious while the private is too small) . Having an awesome experience, shrine is just opposite and you can go visit and pray . The telephone in the room is so vintage, television channels only and no English Channel . Well just worth to experience something different then normal hotel stay . They provide yukata to wear and you can rent for more colorful and nice one if you want . There is also a store below where you can get traditional food omiyagi gifts . It's near airport, took taxi about 3,100yen 15 mins drive . Recommend for people who want to stay last 1 or 2 nights before leaving for airport . Best also that you will not get stress if your late for plane as it is very near narita airport . I will give it a 7.5/10 . Also very respect that the staff serving us food and helping us set our floor bed, they are elderly and yet really friendly to us providing such a good service . Recommended to try at least one night for the experience !

If you get the chance, stay here”
Narita is a great town with far less hustle and bustle than Tokyo or Kyoto. This Ryokan is directly across a narrow street from the Shinshoji Temple, whose buildings and grounds are a real must see. The food here was excellent and the staff was very attentive. The Onsen baths here are some of the best to be had at a Ryokan in this price range.

Amazing Dinner + Breakfast Menu”
First time experiencing ryokan, splendid! So many variety of food. All very delicious. Temple right in front of the ryokan, you're waking up to the morning bell. Onsen bath is very clean and relaxing. So many interesting shops along the way from the station to the ryokan. And it's only 1 stop from Narita Airport Station. Perfect place to spend the night if you have noon flight for the next day :)
Experience traditional Japan but with convenience”
I was here visiting my daughter who lives in northern Japan. I always try to stay at Ryokans when available. Ryokan Wakamastu Honten was our last stay (of 5 different locations on way south). We stayed 3 nights. It was the best experience, even though our previous accommodation was of excellent quality. I will definitely stay here again on my way to & fro visiting my daughter. Despite inclement weather we had a wonderful Japanese experience. Food was superb and staff couldn't have been more friendly & helpful! The communal baths were available 24hrs (except for cleaning)! Just loved the whole experience!
