Great Hotel with nice atmosphere”
Because of Buddhist New Year we were the only guests in the hotel. The owners are super-friendly and can speak great English. We learned a lot about Sri Lanka there. The hotel has a nice pool area and has direct access to the beach.

Nice place, beach is a bit run down”
Very nice family-owned hotel. Staff was extremely nice and helpful. Nice room with a porch at the pool, which was also very nice. Located right at the beach, which unfortunately has a bit of a run-down feel to it. There's a lot of worn-out package hotels and gem shops and the restaurants mostly cater to Russian tourists. We had a nice time staying here, but went to the beach at Bentota instead, which is much nicer.

Good Location ”
The Hotel is located down a lane from the Main Road, so no traffic noise. The room I had was next to the swimming pool. If you walk past the pool and the end of the garden you are on the beach. There is a restaurant at the end of the garden on the beach called Fresh ,run by friendly people. The Family who own this Hotel are very nice, they made me very welcome, which is important to me when travelling alone. The rooms are clean and comfortable. When I wanted to go anywhere they ordered a Tuk Tuk for me. I went Bentota to dinner and the Tuk Tuk came back to pick me up,

A perfect beach holiday!”
Could not ask for a warmer welcome, or more accommodating hosts. The rooms are well appointed, and the setting and proximity to the beach perfect.
It was a wonderful relaxing stay in beautiful surroundings. The pool was always clean, and the gardens well maintained. The rooms are large, and well appointed, with very efficient AC. Having an on site restaurant with excellent food added to the comfort of our stay. The manager, Sagarita, could not do enough to assure our comfort and pleasure. She is certainly responsible for making our stay so memorable. Thank you for everything!

Fantastic hotel in fantastic location.”
The people (Monica the landlady especially), the location on the beach and the lovely restaurant.
We had a fantastic stay from Friday 23rd January until Friday 30th January. From the moment we arrived the landlady (Monica) was super friendly, gave us a choice of rooms and was basically a great host. She organized transport to the town and local restaurants, served lovely breakfasts (cooked by her equally lovely mother). My wife celebrated her birthday whilst at Sagarika and I asked Monica whether she could help organizing something special. Well could she!? It was as if she was organizing her own birthday! Such joy, happyness and warmness. Monica really made the birthday unforgetful and I could not thank her enough. But it was not just Monica, as said her mother (and also her father) were just as friendly. Then the independantly run restaurant linked to the hotel right on the beach, called "Fresh". Again, nothing but friendlyness (Didi, the waitor an absolute star!), but above all fantastic food for very reasonable prices. All in all a fantastic 7 day stay and both my wife and I sad we had to go home.

Nice place”
Pool
Fortunately we had a room facing the pool, otherwise place is not recommended. Simple room, nice patio, great pool and spacious garden with some sunbeds and shadow. Familiy who runs the place is very helpful and prepares on their terrace a good, simple breakfast including good coffee. Some restaurants along the beach strech. Beach/water often polluted specially after rain when the incoming river brings a lot of waste. For groceries no facilities near by

Location, nature
There is just good location (near ocean. Owners are very strange people. they wanted to control how you spent your time and different things. they ask us that we should back to hotel at 10 pm. Not good place for rest if you want to feel good. Never stay in this place again.

staff, swimming pool, restaurant
If you are looking for a calm or romantic rest, you should definitely choose this nice place. The owners are great people, they will help you with everything. The rooms are clean and comfortable, especially good with a pool view. The pool is big, the ocean is in a one minute walk from the room. There is a great restaurant on the beach "Fresh", the seafood is very good there. We enjoyed every minute of staying in this great place.

Warmth, proximity to beach, cleanliness
We had a wonderful time and we're well looked after. Hard working and attentive family who will make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible. Will certainly return. Our 1 year old was looked after during breakfast and every detail was attended to.

Brilliant little find, relaxing, family run hotel”
Breakfast on the terrace under the mango tree was amazing each morning, the bed was super comfy, and we were very well looked after.
This was a great little find right on Aluthgama beach, and although this beach has a bit of litter around, it didn't stop us having a swim and was very close to Bentota beach for a day trip, without the expensive price tag and all the big hotel trappings. Sagarika who runs the hotel with her family was so lovely and took fantastic care of us (whilst also organising a wedding in the garden for the next day!) and we had some great chats with her and her parents during our stay. Breakfast was delicious and if you like spicy food ask for a traditional Sri Lankan omelette - it was amazing! Our room was lovely, with a huge and very comfortable bed and the peaceful surroundings we had a great nights kip here. The swimming pool was also a great place for a bit of twitching... the local Kingfishers were beautiful.

Relaxing family holiday”
Monika and her parents, Greta and Lal De Silva, were the perfect hosts - welcoming and attentive, beach location is beautiful and the hotel is excellent value for money.
From the moment we arrived at Sagarika Beach Hotel, after a challenging night flight from Qatar, we were shown wonderful hospitality from Sri Lankan hotel owners, Monika and her parents Greta and Lal De Silva. The rooms and gardens are very well-maintained and the narrow block is right on the beach. If beach action isn't your thing, there is a nice size pool, which was well used by our 3 children aged 7, 5 and 4. Beside the pool is a lovely shaded outdoor garden area with garden furniture and sun loungers. Breakfast is included every morning and is prepared by Greta herself, who is one great cook! Tea, coffee, fresh fruit, eggs and toast are on the menu, but if you would prefer cereal (like our eldest does), you are welcome to purchase from the local grocery store. During our stay, Monika organized tuk tuks or us each time we went out and made sure we were charged the correct rate. Yes, you can fit 2 adults, 3 children and 1 driver quite comfortably in a tuk tuk! We would definitely recommend this hotel to families with children aged 4 and up and hopefully will have the chance to stay again ourselves.

One of the best hotels on the island”
Extremely friendly staff, great breakfast, direct access to the beach
We (m&f) stayed at the Sagarika Beach Hotel for two nights over New Year's 2013/2014 as part of a three-week backpacking trip in Sri Lanka. The stay in the one bedroom apartment was not the cheapest of our journey but definitely one of the best. The apartment was huge (including kitchen), newly renovated, beautifully decorated and extremely clean. From the large balcony, where we spent our evenings, we had a view on the garden with palm trees. The hotel garden directly adjusts the clean beach, which, in contrast to many other beaches in Sri Lanka that we've been to, offers the possibility to swim in the sea (often waves at other beaches are too high to allow for safe swimming). Of all the hotels located at Beruwela beach, the Sagarika Beach Hotel is definitely the one which has the most cozy feeling to it. Whereas the majority of the other hotels are larger, concrete bunkers with lawns covered in all-inclusive tourists tanning on deck chairs, the Sagarika Hotel is run by Sagarika and her family who look after each guest individually in an extremely nice and caring way. When we arrived, we were directly offered a coconut with a straw. The breakfast included fresh fruit, eggs, milk rice (highly recommended), toast and was definitely one of the best we had during our trip. From the hotel you can take trips to turtle farms, beautiful temples and spice gardens in the area, without having to fear that you have to share these attractions with too many tourists. Sagarika and her family organized the transport to these spots and also helped us find and book the next accomodations on our journey. Overall, we would definitely recommend the Sagarika Beach Hotel to anyone who is looking for direct access to the beach and a relaxed, friendly, family-like atmosphere with some of the nicest, forthcoming staff you will find on this island.
