Pros : location, staff, ease of eating and shopping in the whole resort knowing it was put onto your bill on checking out of your particular hotel.

Lisa | February 23, 2018

For us as three single ladies the room size was good and the balcony was enough for us to sit and chill .

Our room feature modern bathroom with the latest amenities. It feature a deluxe king. It include air-conditioning, TV, movies on demand, minibar and bathrobes are provided. The Hotel also features the acclaimed Mulgara Gallery. There are many aboriginal arts worth to buy. The reception can talk very good Japaness or English. The tourist service is very friendly and helpful. Every room has a balcony, sitting on the chair and enjoy the free time is the most wonderful moment. The hotel is near the supermarket and the Uluru national park. Very good location. By day, we journey into the homeland of Anangu or Embark on a base walk of Uluru . Hike through the Valley of the Winds at Kata Tjuta , take ride on a Harley Davidson. By night, we dine under a canopy of stars accompanied by the ancient sounds of a lone didgeridoo at the award-winning Sounds of Silence dinner. And after, tour the southern night sky with a resident astronomer. At Voyages Sails in the Desert, we can slip into comfort and luxury, right in the heart of the Central Australian Outback. Relax in spacious, airy, beautifully appointed rooms, enjoy cocktails by the pool, or sit back and relax under the magnificent white sails.

The rooms were great. there was a choice of seven pillows, from soft to hard small to large. great bedroom and bathroom. room service was excellent, as was breakfast and dinner.

we had dinner under Ayers Rock [Uluru]. the food was excellent, and the staff ,great. Sitting there under the Red Rock at sunset was amazing. After dinner the stars were out in the millions. One of the staff took us on a tour of our Solar System using a Laser Pointer, including a far away galaxy that ,at night, is very visible.

              Fantastic hotel ”

large room, good internet speed, friendly staff

I stayed 3 nights in this hotel and it was a very good experience. The rooms are spacious with 2 queen size beds, desk and a big bathroom with shower in the bath tube. It is well decorated with a well sized terrace and a good minibar selection. The information upon check in is clear and good. There is free wifi in the lobby but for the rooms it is charged with a package rate of 30$ for 3 days and a very good connection. I was too tired to go out after the many trips I did in this area and I ordered twice room service which came within the expected time (15-20min) and was good quality food. All in Ayers Rock Resort is at walking distance from the resort like supermarket and some restaurants. If you are eating in one of the other resorts you can still charge it to your room as all resorts are connected. If you want to pamper yourself after a full day of exhausting trips, this is a great place to relax; it is not cheap but I would go back here if I would ever return!

              Only other choice is camping.”

Sails in the Desert is very expensive, but the only other choice is to camp out in a tent or caravan. It is a 6 hour drive from Alice Springs for us folks that like to self-guide. Having said that, the resort itself is in very good shape. Responsive staff, excellent service, several eating choices, and comfortable beds. Dinnertime can be crowded at restaurants so book early. Petrol is expensive going for $2.15 per liter in July 2018 at the only station near Uluru.

              Ayers Rock - 4 star hotel ”

Good location, great food and wonderful staff.

Rooms at $500AUD per night were somewhat over rated and a little dated. Toilet leaked, water pressure poor and hot/cold fluctuated somewhat. Good mini bar, comfy bed and good TV channels. Good mobile phone reception, adequate and free WI-FI and easy to book tours. Best part was the amazing food and great wait staff. Would come back just to dine. A little bit pricy for buffet, $68 per person, but you need to consider where you are!- in the middle of the outback. All in all, the pick of the Ayers Rock Resort accommodation options. Will stay again.

              Excellent hotel”

The hotel is situated in the Ayres Rock Resort which is a collection of hotels, apartments, and a campsite near Ayres Rock or Uluru as it is also known. There is also a supermarket and a few other shops in the "Town Square" . We stayed in a suite which was very spacious and comfortable and had breakfast in the restaurant which was very good with a wide selection of food to suit all tastes. The sounds of silence experience is well worth doing as dining under the stars is quite magical if a little expensive. Checking in was a bit slow but the staff were very friendly and very helpful. We had made a mistake when booking the sounds of silence experience but it was quickly rectified without any fuss. If we ever return we would definitely stay at this hotel again.

              Location, comfort, friendliness

We had a wonderful couple of days hiking around Kata Tjuta and Uluru. The resort was quite busy but our room was away from the pool area and therefore very peaceful. The staff were helpful and friendly and made us feel welcome. We hired a car at the airport and pretty much did our own thing. Highly recommend the Mala walk with the ranger around the base of Uluru, very interesting and informative. We did not climb the rock out of respect for the Anangu people but we had made that decision before we went on holidays,as it happened the climb was closed due to high winds and high temperatures.

              Sails in Desert”

              1. A pleasant place to stay 2. An excellent and large room

Although a good hotel, it is not without its shortcomings. The official check-in time is 3pm which given the check-out time of 10am suggests that better management is needed. Lack of room availability can be a problem if guest intends to set out on a tour shortly after arrival. Moreover, if room is remote from reception, better direction by the front desk would have been helpful. Finally, even taking account of the price premium on everything at the Ayers Rock Resort, the Sails is still over priced and represents poor value for money.

Rooms are large and very nice that match the Australian theme.

All very good. Friendly and courteous. The only negative was the restaurant in the hotel was not renovated yet, but this should be soon I guess. HOwever there is a small town close by for eating. Ayers Rock opens for climbing only occassionaly depending on the weather. I think the staff could keep you better updated on the status through out the day. (they seemed to use a daily advice bulletin for advice and then loose interest). I hired a car and was ready to go when it opened during the day. Lucky maybe. Very nice and highly recommend it.

Proximity to Uluru, shuttle to airport, buffet breakfast

Excellent. Ignore any criticisms about cleanliness or the cleaning crew or bugs - the staff cleans vacating units first and then does the occupied rooms. The staff was consistently engaging and helpful. Breakfast is diverse enough to address clients from around the globe and substantial enough to get you through to a late lunch. Dinner buffet is good, but we found better dinner dining options using the a la carte menu at the Desert Gardens. Completely unrelated to the hotel, but important for visitors in the summer months - bring a fly net. The flys are incessant - particularly when you get out to Uluru and Kata Tjuta.

our family went there on a short break to get a sense of what it is like in the centre of Australia. We had to fly in and fly out in a matter of days , so it was a great way to be there for a short stay. Everything about the place is lovely. The desert country and local people are inspiring. Importantly if you go there - please listen to the wishes of the traditional owners adn dont climb Uluru! It is sacred.

The pool needs a sail over it especially in summer time when the temperature is 40 + in the middle of the day. We thought it was funny that the resort is call sails of the desert and there sails everywhere except over the pool during the summer.

              Pool, Terrace and outdoor areas

I chose to stay at Sails with my partner because we wanted to have a very luxurious experience on our 4 day trip to Uluru. It came pretty close! The staff were excellent, I couldn't possibly ask for more from them. The surroundings were lovely and while the temperature in late April was very comfortable 20C, I can imagine a few weeks earlier, the crystal clear pool would have been beautiful to swim in. The food was good, what you would expect from a hotel but not quite 5 star. I did enjoy the wines they had on the menu. The only one very minor slight detractor from the place was that the decor was a little tired looking and my tv didn't always work. I know, not there to watch TV, but after more than a few days of up before the sun sometimes you just want to lie back and do nothing for an hour or so.

              Visiting Uluru”

Uluru is a beautiful place with a deep history. Sails in the Desert is the best of the accommodations that is offered in the middle of nowhere. However, don’t expect a 5-star facility for the money. For AU$500 ($360 US) per night you will get an okay.room but no view or any aminities. Everything is extra and expensive. One bright spot was the dinner buffet at the Ssils, although expensive AU$75 per person, it was worth it due to very high quality and variety.

              Welcome to Ayers Rock ”

Hotel staff friendly and organised everything, clean spacious room, good food

Lovely relaxing stay. Was definitely a bonus to have a swimming pool in the 37 degree heat! It was easy to book excursions through the hotel reception. We did the Uluru base walk at sunrise which was with a guide and took 6 hours. The guide was informative and explained the aboriginal cultural stories. We had a picnic breakfast. We also did the astronomy tour at night which involved an astronomer talking us through some pretty spectacular things. We were blessed with a clear starry night. Looking through the telescope at Jupiter, the moon, distant galaxies and clusters of billions of stars. A bargain at only $40! The guide Mike was very passionate about astronomy and made it informative and exciting. Would recommend this hotel and both tours to anyone. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The hotel has a good selection of wines and serves amazing cocktails also! Was good value for money.

              Just What I Needed”

Hotel is well laid out with rooms away from any noise. Rooms are spacious and king size bed very comfortable. Restaurants are close to rooms and lobby.

Have wanted to stay at Sails in the Desert for more than a year and took up their great stay 5 nights pay for 3 deal. Hotel is within walking distance to the Town Centre and the Imalung Lookout where you can view Uluru. Would stay there again.
