GOOD RESORT BESIDE THE RIVER KWAI ”
We found the saiyok river house a great place to stay. The views of the river and the surrounding mountains are fantastic. Especially memorable was the sight of elephants bathing in the river right opposite the resort. Our standard room was clean and comfortable. The outside balcony is a great place to sit and unwind after a day elephant trekking, caving or traveling along the river. People say it is remote but it is quiet and peaceful. The restaurant food was good and we would defineatly return to the saiyok river house .
Peaceful, comfortable, private retreat”
We were picked up from the train station nearby(no charge). Hire of a good motor scooter was easily organised for a very good price, and one of the managers went out of his way to help us with using the bike and the best place to get petrol (he showed us the way, personally). The young woman had good English skills and gave us all the information we needed. Our room was very private ( the one at the end of the row, furthest away from the restaurant, All the 'superior' rooms have a veranda directly overlooking the river. The room was well set out; plenty of shelves & storage space, huge bathroom with a bath and heaps of charm. Sai Yok/Wang Pho is a charming, friendly little village within reach of all the local attractions.
We were so appreciate to Saiyok River House. With all condition family room, cleanness, facilities, swimming pool, garden walk way to the river and food (breakfast). This is the good place to take a rest in the nature and peaceful.
After the madness of Bangkok I needed some rest so I booked the Sayok River House. Bad things first: I booked and paid for a double room and got a single room. The last night there was a storm and the bamboo hut was leaking in several places. WiFi signal was not great, there are several routers but they are not set up correctly. But I can't really complain because I got my money's worth. The place is in a beautiful jungle setting with a view on the river where elephants of the nearby elephant camp are bathing every afternoon. There's a swimming pool that I had to myself most of the time. The included breakfast is very good and served in the restaurant with river view. Staff are friendly, and they gave me a free ride to the railway station for my departure. Overall a pleasant stay and I would come back.
Nice hotel - Bring the DEET”
A lovely hotel based at the top of the river Kwai. We arrived by train travelling over the infamous river Kwai bridge and stopping at one of the two stations nearby (What Pho). Have their number to hand or expect to get motor cycle taxis (friendly locals gave us a lift) a little scary with a rucksack and impossible with a suitcase. Buses do not stop nearby from Kanchanaburi however you can get a lift from hotel staff in order to catch these buses for 80 baht for the entire party (you cannot walk from the buses there's a really big hill in the way). Staff offer excursions to all the nearby sights wouldn't know what would happen if more than one party wanted to go somehwere as we were the only ones staying. There's not a lot nearby but a good base; best if you have your own transport.
Peaceful and quiet”
Sai Yok River House has comfortable, quiet rooms with balconies that enjoy views of the river. It's a very relaxing place to chill and enjoy the natural surroundings. The receptionist / cook was very nice and friendly. The food was passable at best; the American breakfast was not worth having. Order a Thai breakfast. We were there during the week and there was only one other guest. I imagine that this is the kind of resort that attracts Thai families at the weekend.
quite and relaxing”
I booked this because of the reviews on this and another well known travel site and was not disappointed. A previous reviewer had mentioned that this place isn't the ritz but is peaceful. We travelled as 3 fathers with kids and rented their big house. Yes it needed a lick of paint and the surrounding area has aged since it was new but this did not matter. Some people complain when there are leaves on the floor but when you are in the jungle this is to be expected. We all loved the place, the staff are very nice, the restaurant provides very good food at street prices so there is no need to go out to eat, breakfast was adequate. If you are looking for a quiet getaway then this place comes highly recommended, if you want a modern resort with stacked up rooms, anonymous staff and perfect grounds then this is not the place for you.
My Jungle Cruise!”
Talk about an adventure! This is the place to stay and never leave the hotel! The most romantic place I have ever stayed. The rooms incorporated the incredible wood from the area, and were positioned with a private balcony overlooking the river Kaui. The young girl at the head desk is lovely! She loves to practice English with you. She goes out of her way to be sure you are comfortable. She could not do enough to make my stay pleasant. This is NOT the Ritz, it is an experience of a lifetime that will never be forgotten! Did I say you were in the middle of no where!
I had a very pleasant time at the Saiyok river house. Staff is very friendly, room was very clean, gardens are well kept. The hot water in the shower wasn't working and they couldn't get it fixed. So I had only cold water which was ok because winter in Thailand is still nice and warm.
Far out in the nature”
even with your own car, the trip from kanchanaburi city to saiyok, where the hotel is located, is long (50km). in promximity to the hotel are only other hotels, but no city or village. still, there are a some interesting spots to visit like the tiger temple, a famous part of the railway along the hills with a cave, an elephant camp etc. the hotel is rather small, but the rooms are nice, and the managment and staff is very friendly and helpful. if you dont mind the long journey to the hotel, it is a nice place to spend some time in the nature.
Quiet spot by the river”
We stayed here after a day exploring Erawan Fall and Hellfire Pass because we were going to the Elephant Haven (Elephant Nature Park) across the river the next day. It was very convenient because we didn't have to drive the one hour back into town, only to return the next day. It was nice to spend a quiet night by the river. The pool is nice and we took a refreshing swim. Our room was a Standard, without a view of the river. I think that the other rooms looked much nicer for the view. But our room was very comfortable and the shower worked well. We ate a good dinner in the restaurant and enjoyed the breakfast too. Great setting. You will need a car of make arrangements with a taxi as we did.
A River Getaway ”
Don't plan a trip here unless you have your own wheels. If you do manage to get here, it's sometimes hard and always expensive to go anywhere. We rented a motorbike in Kanchanaburi and left most of our stuff at the hotel there. Other guests reported high prices to get to the Tiger Temple, and Kanchanaburi things are an hour away. The hotel lists cable/satellite tv when in fact only 4 Thai channels are available. Also, DVD players are only in a few rooms. "In-house movies" are not available, but they have a fair number of discs for the players if you can get one. Microwave ovens are also listed in room amenities but are not available. We hope the hotel will correct their listing to reflect reality. A couple of miles away is a 7/11 with a good stock of food.
very good hotel in a remote place”
the hotel is little bit difficult to find but once there you will find a very nice small hotel in a good location straight on the river. there is also a nice platform for relaxing and fishing ''les pieds dans l'eau'', lying on the water. there is a very small swimming pool but good to have a bath and enjoy the sun and the silence. breakfast was so essential but you can not expect more for price paid. there are evn small touches of class in the rooms and in the restaurants that are highly appreciated. a car is absolutely needed otherwise you are secluded!!!at present the restaurant is working only for breakfast so you have to consider that the nearest place is 10 mnts walk that in the night with wild dogs around is not a good idea!!
My stay at the Sai Yok River House”
The stay there was very quite, laid back, easy driving distance to the Bridge on the River Kwai, and all the sights, the area has to offer. This resort is located in the small village of Sai Yok. Recommend to others.
Saiyok river house review ”
Saiyok River House : Room : The deluxe tripple room had the good beds , electric air dryer and dry cleaning. But the toilet was not good cause the toilet bowl was clog so sad that I couldn't spend my penny in my room. I had to walk to the reception. I've requested to staff for solving problem but they couldn't solve it. So I give 4 points for room. Location : There is a peachful place If you like a private or quite place. There is near the river and good view but far from the kanchanaburi city but near saiyok city ; little city.can't swim in the river but you can swim in the little swimming pool. I like a peachful so I give 8 points. Food : This hotel not have room service you have to go to the restuarant for dinner. So I can't comment about the taste of food. I give 4 points cause I can't order the food for eating in my room. Staff : I met only 1 man staff. He just let me to the room by not much talking and met the hotel keeper for solving my toilet bowl she is friendly more than the reception man so I get 4 points for staff and service. Totally : I give 5 point for overall.
outstanding place to stay”
i really enjoyed my stay here. the staff was super friendly and helpful in every way possible. great location right on the river with ultra clean and up to date rooms. only one hour drive from erawan national park and lots of other attractions close by. would recommend this place to everyone.
Great location near the river Kwai ”
very convenient and centered resort to visit kanchanaburi, sai yok and all sightseing of the province.
Peaceful tranquility. Amazing service”
although far from anything, this delightful little hotel has a balcony overlooking the river to listen to birds, and hear elephants/tigers? in the near distance. the room is clean with a jungle feel, king size bed with modern necessities. the food is excellent…mmm matsamam curry! the dip in the pool was also a refreshing treat. the service is fantastic thank you narut for an amazing stay!
Feel like home!”
The place is kinda difficult to find out but not that hard. Once you arrived you will love there; quiet, calm, ralax and private. I feel the fully of natures, see the sunset and the River Kwae. Staffs are friendly and nice foods. Not that expensive as i expect. Reasonable price to stay there. And in the room (deluxe triple room) i really like everything from wood and bed so comfortable but in bathroom the flush is broke. Need to fixed. Anyway for me i recommend this place.
Nice setting but accommodation tired”
The spot by the river is lovely but Saiyok itself lacks anything in terms of restaurants. There is a 7 Eleven and a local food stall but not much else. The room was clean but the shower wasn't hot, old system, and the room was tired looking.
