Did you find this review summary helpful?
I want to start off by saying that this property is not the cheapest in Kyoto by any means. With that said, the Saka Hotel is probably still a good value for $ considering the helpful staff, the location, and overall quality of the room and property. From the moment you check in you are greeted by friendly staff and feel taken care of. The room itself is clean and quite large compared to others in the area. We stayed in the room with the open air bath which we used 3 time and it was fabulous. They also have a tea room where you can indulge in coffee, tea, and other small treats before you retreat to your room. Location was excellent, it was a very close walk to Kiyomizudera as well as the adjacent pagoda. It was also very accessible to the bus line which we used a lot. Upon check out the staff at the front desk went out of their way to find us the best way to Osaka with all of our bags and made sure we took the express line to save time. Overall I would recommend this property 100%. While this place is probably out of our normal price range, it is well worth it to stay at least one night here while you are in Kyoto.
love the room size, balcony area with ok view out, separate shower/bathtub and toilet with small washbasin. main washbasin is located seperate frm bath, makes it convenient for grps/couple sharing room. daily frm 4-6pm there is free flow wine, soft drinks and light snacks. only downside is that dinner and breakfast are not served in room, beds are comfortable modern beds and not futons. so didnt get the traditional jap ryokan experience. staff are friendly and polite. will recommend this
Location is optimal to go try on kiminos and see Kiyomizau-dera Shrine. The hotel itself was very nice with a nice lounge on the 3rd floor with little snacks and tea to drink and chill. The rooms were very clean and the private indoor onsen was nice (abliet a bit small for a couple). The only thing was during check-in, they made us wait for over 45 min with any warning or indicator on what they were doing on keeping us waiting for so long. We saw other guests also waiting and being served tea but not us which was off-putting for us.
Hotel is situated just a couple of streets up from the main street, a few mins walk from the nearest busstop and to the main walking/shopping street. Room was spacious & clean, loved the private onsen tub in the bathroom. Appreciate all the snacks and facial/toiletries provided! Staff were very friendly and helpful.

“It's nice to take my mom with me.”
Especially the grand private open-air bath room was my mom's favorite, and she made sure to use it every morning and evening to relax. I also found that soaking in the bath relieved my leg pain and felt great. The staff were friendly, and the breakfast, which featured a different menu every day, was satisfying. However, I visited at the end of October, and the room was very humid, possibly due to the open-air bath. The air conditioner smelled like a wet mop, so I couldn't turn it on. Since I was with my mom and sister, they set up three beds for us, and I used the middle bed. Right above the left side of my bed was an air conditioner vent, and even without turning on the air conditioner, I could smell a faint moldy odor as I slept, so I desperately tried to stay close to the right side. The open-air bath was great, but there was a strong bleach smell in the water, which made it feel like I was bathing in bleach. It didn't affect my skin, and I even felt that my skin became softer, so I just dealt with it. One bed was made by modifying a sofa, and it was a bit hard. My sister likes hard beds, so she said she slept comfortably. They change pajamas every day to new ones, and my mom liked the design and softness so much that she wanted to buy a pair, but unfortunately, they weren't for sale. The shower room connected to the open-air bath and the room was very convenient. However, since it was made of glass, it could be uncomfortable if you go with friends or your father. The toilet and shower room were far apart, which made movement a bit inconvenient. Despite being an old hotel, the toilet, shower room, and open-air bath were all clean. However, the shower vent had some dust in it, which was a bit unpleasant. Still, I tend to be quite particular about cleanliness, and overall it was good. My mom and sister want to go again, but because of the air conditioner smell, I don't think I'll go twice if it doesn't improve. I sincerely thank the kind staff and the enjoyable hot springs on the terrace each night, as well as the delicious breakfast, which allowed me to show gratitude to my mom.
