Stay at Sakot Backpackers ”

For a backpacker hotel, Sakot is more than what we expected. Almost everything you need are provided. The staff are all very friendly and nice. The location is very good, most of the malls and tourist attraction of the city can be reached by walking. We even walked to Jesselton for our island-hopping activity. For a stay in Kota Kinabalu city center, I will always go back to Sakot.

A good place for a solo traveler!”

I booked the dorm type room but ended up using the room alone - it was great :) The hostel is very near Jalan Padang where you can take a bus/minibus/van going to Kinabalu Park and to the airport. The staffs were accommodating and friendly. Had a chance meeting the owner and he was very nice and friendly. He taught me how to get to some places on that day before going to the airport. Restaurants were just few steps away. Overall it was a very comfortable stay with Sakot Backpackers. Will stay again when going back to BKI.

Very friendly staff, clean & nice place.. ”

The most unforgetable I've experience in Sakot Backpackers is the hospitality of the staff, namely Diana, Ireene, Mika, Bell, Amy, Ginger, Rara, Ruby, etc.. Very friendly & always greet you w/ a smile. I availed the solo private room and is very clean. Nice wifi connection and the place is just near to restaurants & malls. I will definitely recommend this place & will surely come back again next time.. :)

Weird vibe, there are nicer places to stay ”

The location is easy to find and the reception area is nice. The shared bathrooms are spacious but they do not provide soap in the showers or toilet roll in the toilets. We booked a double room and it was ridiculously small. Barely space to walk in without hitting the bed. The walls are paper thin so we could hear everything outside and for some reason the light switch is outside the room meaning you have to go outside to turn the light off before going to sleep (bizarre!). The WiFi was awful although this seemed common in Sabah. Towels were provided and the staff were nice. I can’t explain why but it just felt like a weird place. We stayed in Storytel (in Kota Kinabalu) a week before and even though it was £4 a night more expensive than Sakot Backpackers we would choose to stay there again instead of here if we were to come back to Kota Kinabalu.

Clean, Comfortable, friendly staff, good location”

When I move in the room, saw aircon water leaking. Was fixed after complained made. Comfortable and cozy, even though its a backpacker hostel. Hot & cold water dispanser, free coffee powder at the pantry. Washing machine and iron & ironing area for our laundry. Free strong WIFI. Free towel, soft blenket. Friendly and capable staff. I think their staff is multitasking, I saw them doing everything 👍👍👍 Their location is really at the mist of everythings. - 24 hours convenient stall, minimarkets, - 24 hours fast food. All sort of restaurant for Chinese food, Indian, Japanese, Korean, western restaurant and hawker food court is everywhere. - massage center, pub, karaoke is just walking distance - 10 minutes walk to the famous Philippine market for food and shopping. And also Waterfront Restaurant for food, beer and music. It's next to bus station and taxi station for other province of Sabah. Hostel is renovating for a common place for guest to gather, chit chat, eat and drink.

Very good”

We booked the hostel for the location and mainly because it advertised there was a kitchen. Since we've been travelling for quite some time, the novelty of eating out every meal wears off and we were dying to cook our own food. Unfortunately there is no longer a kitchen as advertised and they've opened up their own cafe downstairs. We were very disappointed with this. In addition, the hostel looks to be undergoing some maintenance and I feel like the price should reflect this until the renovation is finished. Light switches are in very awkward places e.g. our light switch was outside our room which mean that quite often people would turn it on during the night unknowingly. I'm sure this is an issue that will be resolved once the renovation has finished. The hostel would also benefit some furniture in the room so you can put your belongings. Nevertheless, the location is pretty good! I just feel like more facilities should be offered for the price.

Functional Accommodations, Hospitable Staff”

Interesting place - all female staff was dressed to the nines - make up, high heels, and all. But it wasn't THAT kind of place by any means. Just a nice, simple accommodation and the ladies were incredibly welcoming. Nothing fancy but great for a quick stay in Kota Kinabalu. Beds are comfortable enough, location is within walking distance of the city center, and value is unbeatable.

Tiny room with public toilet should be much much cheaper ”

Basically I arrived around 4:30 am the guy I still remember his name ( aziz ) was really helpful but what shocked me that the room was extremely small and with no private toilet !! This is not mentioned in the description, they only said no window!! Actually I refused to stay in even for a single minute because after the long way traveling I needed something other than a small cage, the lights where not strong, public toilet so I chose to move to a triple room because of the private toilet.. what is sad about my story that I booked the place one and half a month before and after long search!! I moved to many places in KK and came to a conclusion that living near gaya street is better and many options plus after barging with some budget hotel they gave me really good price, if you are a foreigner coming to KK you should know that the city it self is boring you should have one or two nights in the area near Kinabalu mountain because it is amazing, if you have one week In Sabah don't miss going to sipadan.. regarding this place i differently will not chose it if I come back again, one more thing be careful about places with no windows here in the city ..

We had difficulty in finding the hostel, it has a small signage. You’ll need to climb stairs to get to the rooms (older persons might see this hard, or those having big trollies).
