Did you find this review summary helpful?
We are always incredibly happy to stay at the Sakura Terrace - The Gallery. We stayed in a Deluxe Twin room with a balcony, which is a very good size, and has everything we need for a comfortable stay. The on-site public bath and sauna are perfect after a long day in Kyoto, and the super-power of this hotel is the food. Both dinners and breakfasts are outstanding and the nightly jazz is worth enjoying. Grab a drink at a very reasonable price and sit outside in the sofa or table area for a truly restful experience. There are two convenience stores (7-11 and Family Mart) very close by and both the Avanti and Aeon Kyoto shopping malls are within walking distance. This hotel is away from the tourist areas of Shijo/Gion, so you can avoid the packed feeling of Kyoto here, but since it’s close to Kyoto station, you can easily get anywhere you’d like. Great staff, great food, great facilities. Definitely an affordable and enjoyable option for a stay in Kyoto. Please note that children under 13 are not allowed to stay in this hotel.
Sakura Terrace The Gallery in Kyoto truly exceeded expectations 😍🌸 The staff are warm and helpful 😊, and the overall atmosphere is relaxing and welcoming 😌💖 The spa area features a proper Finnish sauna — a rare and appreciated find in Japan! 🔥🇫🇮 There are also two comfortable lounges, each equipped with four high-quality massage chairs, perfect for unwinding after a long day of sightseeing 😴💆♀️💆♂️ One of the best touches is the lounge’s self-service coffee corner ☕😉, where you can grind the provided beans and brew fresh filtered coffee 😋✨ A variety of hot and cold teas are also available 🍵🧊, making it a cozy spot to relax 😌 A free welcoming drink is served in their nice restaurant too! 🍷🍹😉 The interior design of the shared spaces is stylish and modern 🛋️🌿, creating a calm and comfortable environment 🕊️🫶 The hotel is conveniently located near Kyoto Station 🚉 and just a short walk from Aeon Mall 🛍️, great for shopping or grabbing a quick meal 🍜🍣 Highly recommended for travelers looking for comfort, relaxation, and thoughtful details! 😊✨🏨
In fact, I had no expectations since I booked the cheapest room through Agoda. I thought I would have to accept any inconveniences regarding room condition, view, location, and staff response, but I got the opposite result. Everything was satisfying, and it was a hotel with great cost-performance, so I would rate it as an attractive accommodation that makes me want to visit again next time. It didn’t feel like a cramped hotel; rather, it felt like a resort in a vacation spot or even a personal mansion. The accessibility from the accommodation to Kyoto Station, department stores and shopping malls, Aeon Mall, Don Quijote, and Yodobashi Camera is excellent. The full-body massage chair was great for recovering my tired body, and the hot spring baths, salt sauna, and shampoo bar area became wonderful healing points. There was also a treadmill, which made my daughter happy. Moreover, the welcome drink time starting in the afternoon, accompanied by live music, was fantastic and greatly enhanced our satisfaction with the Kyoto trip. I was very satisfied with the staff's response skills and mindset, and there was nothing disappointing about it. I definitely want to visit again to enjoy the four seasons of Kyoto.
My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 4 days and 3 nights (August 28-31, 2025) and we were pleasantly surprised by the nightly welcome drinks (could be alcoholic or non alcoholic), affordable food options on the menu (very tasty and juicy steak, okonomiyaki is a must try, too), free use of washing machines, dryer and massage chairs, unlimited beverages in the lounge areas (tea and coffee) and public bath and sauna. We also requested for in room full body massage and they were able to book us in within the hour (this massage service is third party so they prefer cash payment only. We highly recommend it. Masseuse is a very sweet Japanese lady). Apart from that, it is close to Kyoto train station and Aeon, a big shopping center in Kyoto. We will definitely stay at this hotel for longer on our next visit to Japan.

“Good Value and Superb Location”
Location is great, exit Kyoto Station Hachijo West (near the Horai 551 takeout shop) and then straight down the street past the 24-hour 7-Eleven. There's two buildings, I do recall specifically choosing one building over the other when searching hotels so there shouldn't be any surprise. I believe no groups or small kids are allowed which is a blessing for some. It takes me about 5 minutes from room to station. Near Aeon Mall and Avanti anchoring the corners of this hotel zone. Family Mart, Lawson, and some other konbini shops are nearby; search for nearby food options on your own. Room is clean and fairly spacious. Balcony is great but as I was there during the summer, it was still annoying outside at 4am so I didn't use it at all. For temperate weather, grab some food and drink and enjoy. One thing I don't like is this step in the middle of the room: past the bed into the living is lower for some reason. If you have mobility concerns, double-check the room descriptions. Maybe it is only my room or floor. Toilet is loud but I've never heard any other room over a week of staying here so I'm guessing it is just well-contained inside. Room provides slippers, toiletries, amenities including a small fridge (cold but not ice cold) and electric kettle. Cleaning is the typical option: everyday, towels and trash only with mandatory 3rd day full clean. It's easier to not have to shuffle everything away daily for room cleaning if you only need some new towels. They offer complimentary drinks and during the summer, free ice cream. Restaurant is open for hotel guests only, price is fair and the portions are alright. A limited menu that looked like mostly western cuisine, it's convenient if you're caught in a freak random thunderstorm or too tired and don't want to go far. There's rotating live music playing and since it echoes up through the open courtyard, you might hear things until 10pm or so. Great if you like night life or awake then, bad if you sleep early and easily awoken. I see some people mention lack of outlets and as per my review date, there are outlets at: entry hallway (2), bath (1), and desk (2). None near the bed. I guess it's not ideal but also not a problem personally. I don't need nor want to interact with the staff unless during the check-in/out and nothing indicated a problem this trip to dock any stars. I do nod and acknowledge but I pretty much don't need or expect additional services from the hotel. For what I paid (about $** a night w/o breakfast), it's perfectly fine. Will consider it again for the location and access.
