Fantastic resort in the heart of the mountains”
This place is in a stunning location, at the foot of Jebel Shams and near by the Grand Canyon. The rooms are spacious and for the adventurous traveller have just what you need: a good heater, comfortable bed and enough hot water - though I couldn't get the TV to work and there was not enough wifi/ internet capacity to get a signal in the room. The buffet dinner and breakfast included in the package had ample tasty food. I did the Balcony Walk in the late afternoon. The trail head is only about 15 minutes drive away along the ridge. It a stunning hike of about 2 hours and you only need to to be moderately fit. The hike to the south summit of Jebel Shams is another thing altogether, it is a long tough day. Start out at 6:30 (if you ask the night before the kitchen will give you a packed lunch); it will likely take about four and half to five and a half hours to cover the eight and half kilometres and gain the 1000 meters necessary to reach the top.
Excellent mountain retreat”
You can certainly make it to the hotel in 2wd car. We drove at same speed as 4wd vehicles in front of us. Many locals drive their toyota corollas up and down the last 8km dirt road strech with no issue. Locals will hassle you at the start to take you up for 40omr. Unless its been heavy rain and road is muddy, do go on your own 2wd. Hotel itself is strategically located, 5 min drive to start of hiking trail. Breakfast lunch and dinner were great, staff friendly and arabic tent was a nice touch of luxury in the wilderness. We stayed only 1 night, but would not hesitate to stays 2-3 for pure relaxation.
Best price quality ratio we experianced in Oman. ”
Great localation - can not be closer to the nicest viewpoints and balcony walk. Great service - all very friendly. Great food - absolutely beyond any expectations at this price point. We have been offered an upgrade to a bungalow but we preferred a tent - which was spacious and surprisingly luxury.
The location is great for hiking and relaxation. Stayed for 5 days! Staff were great , guided hikes by Majeed were fun. I would most certainly return. It’s great for all types of travellers. Solo, group, families. Highly Recommended.
Very well located for hiking and relaxing at Jebel Shams on an elevation of about 2000m. We’ve stayed 2 nights at a bungalow. Breakfast and Dinner is included. You have no choice to go anywhere else, because this area is very far from everything except nature. Both breakfast and dinner is served as buffet, with Softdrinks and coffee / team included. Guided tours can be booked. We did the sunset tour, only the guide we both with our daughter. Paid 5 per adult, nothing for our 11 year old. The young and friendly guide took us to a sunset spot we wouldn’t have found alone. Beautiful! He served traditional tea and we enjoyed the great scenery. The bungalow is simple but enough for short stays, but attention, the size in the description is wrong! It says 74 square meter. The room including toilet is around 24 m2. Even counting the terasse sums up to around 60 m2. Room was clean, bathroom simple. Attention. The last 10 km are rough and steep road, where you need a 4WD!
Good location but...”
It is located in the middle of the mountain so view was fantastic but the problem was the smell from the bathroom. I don't know why but the unknown smell from the bathroom made me awake all night long...
Loved this place! ”
We stayed in a Sultan tent and it was great, traditional but still comfortable. Breakfast and dinner were super yummy and all the staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to this area.
Einfaches Hotel in super Lage, gutes Essen, alles perfekt
We stayed for two nights there and liked it. No TV and internet - perfect. Our 5 years old son enjoyed playing at the playground. We did the 5 - hours balcony walk with the nicest guide from Husaak, that has an office next to the reception area. Dinner was exceptional. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Nice relaxing getaway spot”
The place is nice and clean, staff are friendly and respectful. For improvement, they could add a bit more stuff to the facilities: we asked for clothes iron, it wasn't available, the heater was too small and the blanket too thin for the freezing cold weather , plus it'd be nice if they had a pool table, foosball, board games etc. for additional activities with friends.
Location - close to W6 balcony walk. Food - breakfast w omelette station and good selection of fruits/bread/pastry etc (instant coffee). Dinner has selection of chicken curry/daal/rice/veg/hummus/labanh cheese/salad. Spinach noodle soup was very good. Room - we got upgraded from an Arabic tent to a chalet. Chalet was very charming. Bed+pillow was very comfortable, and blanket nice and warm which was necessary since it was cold outside. Hotel suggested you need 4WD to get there since it has a 7.5 km of off road driving. Our rental car was a Nissan Sunny (sedan). It made it there and back ok, but we were extra careful, and could see the car struggle a bit with the steep hill and bumps. Yes it'll be better if you have 4WD, but still can make it w a good car. We had a lovely stay at Sama Heights. It was based on the recommendation from a friend. And we would definitely recommend it to others.
We stayed here 2 years ago and recently visited again. The place is under new management and has made great improvements in the staff, facilities, and layout. We have stayed in 2 different places at Jebel Shams, and we would now consider this our top choice. Very relaxing stay!
Unique view from your room, especially north Bangalow, get away from crowd. Meal at hotel acceptable from every regional. 2WD can passing thru with easy 8 km off-road reach to the hotel. Only staff at receptions they can answer every question about attractive point to visit.
One of best options in Jebel shams”
To our surprise, our booking was upgraded to Grand chalet for free. Locationwise it's 2 km before the canyon point. Good location surrounded by mountains. Rooms were very clean with no odor and no insects. It was really good. Even the bed and pillow covers were good. Dinner and breakfast were good. Would recommend this place to anybody looking for a one night stay in Jebel shams. Part of road was damaged by rain. Still it was accessosible by sedans....
Sama Heights Resort is a very nice place for a stay in Jebel Akhdar. Only one disadvantage: they say they are an "eco-friendly" resort, but they offer small plastic bottles with water. The plastic bottles can be found all over the mountains when hiking in Jebel Akhdar. Please think about a more eco-friendly option e.g. as water to refill in reusable bottles the guests have to bring theirselves.
The key to the best experience of the location is to arrange transportation which fits your travel plans. Hiking down Al Nakhr gorge toward Al-Kateem village (W6a route) is challenging but it's worth to do it. Do your homework on time and everything will go smoothly.
Beautiful place in Jebel shams and thanks to the reception guy, I got a free upgrade to a chalet. It was raining when we reached and this good guesture from the resort staff gave us a real delight. The only point of improvement, I wud say wud be in the dinner menu.. It was very limited and we were not that very happy.. But overall a very good experience indeed!
Pleasant stay and enjoy with family. Rooms are very clean and good. Staffs are friendly support. The restaurant area was very nice and provided dinner with a good buffet as well as breakfast. We really like it.
Beautiful location in the middle in the mountains of Oman”
We had a beautiful room thanks to the free upgrade (thank you!) with a comfortable bed. There was a weird smell in the bathroom, though. We liked our stay at the Sama Heights. However, it cannot keep up with the Sama Wakan where we'd stayed earlier. In direct comparison, Sama Heights is lacking a personal touch (it's way too big and the dining room is huge, though quite empty when we stayed there). The staff is friendly but not very communicative (often basic English), plus we repeatedly heard weird snorting sounds from the kitchen area while waiting for dinner. Food was disappointing compared to other places where we stayed in Oman. Why not make more local food instead of trying to prepare some overcooked and tasteless "Pasta Alfredo"?We would have preferred less choices but better quality/more local dishes. The dining room was cold, even though there were some electric heaters (not very ecologically friendly, especially if you keep the door open!) people mostly ate in their jackets.
Good but difficult road if you follow maps”
Discuss with the resort on the route to take. Clarify if a two wheel drive vehicle can make it to the resort and the roite to take google maps show a wrong route which is not recommended.
