Restaurant had a big enough menu, but I had to go through three different options before I found something that was actually available. The hotel was big a fairly well kept, but felt a little deserted by staff and other travelers.

Pretty Good Value for the Money”
Samaya Bura is located in Lamai Beach area, however, the ocean there is subsiding and a bit rocky this time of the year (mid-late April). Though no fault of the Resort, a good swimmable area of ocean is important to us. The pool is very nice but a bit small. The resort itself is beautiful and the staff even more so. Ask for a view room if you can get one. Daniel C.
Really beautiful place, highly recommended”
I'm staying here at the moment on a 3 week holiday and absolutely love it. The rooms have everything you need and are very comfortable, and there is a *really* beautiful garden area with a pool, bar, and restaurant, all of which is directly in front of the beach, which you have very easy access to. Service is also good. My only complaint would be that the hotel's WIFI is slow and unreliable, though I've been mostly able to get around with that with my phone through 3G and tethering. But I didn't come here to spend a lot of time on the internet, so it hasn't been a major inconvenience.
Great place for a family holiday”
We stayed here for 10 nights and would come back here again. In fact, we met another family who keeps coming back to this hotel. It is not a 5 star, but it is very comfortable, lovely location (the rocky coast has been cemented in and there is a sand beach right next door). The staff were very helpful and the manager even upgraded our room for free. It is about a 5 min drive to the Lamai beach and shops and a 10-15 min drive to Chaweng beach and shops. The restaurant next door is great and there is a coffee shop and a convience shop 2 min walk away. We enjoyed our stay and would come back.
Overall, the hotel is wonderful! lots of facilities, library, internet lodge, indoor seaview lodge(which is a good place to be sitting when it's extremely hot outside), 2 pools, etc. they must improve the variety of their food menu.
Nice hotel but not the best part of the beach”
Nice hotel, breakfast ordinary, not much variation during our stay (10 days). Small pool, quite ok. The beach bar was closed and the surrounded area was broken (maybe by a storm) so the walking way to the beach was not in good condition. Very few guests during our stay so the place was pretty quiet. Our room was on the beach side which was good, the road side seemed to be quite noisy.
Thank you very much of your taking the busy time to give us the review and sharing your experience to stay with us. Your feedback is value for us to know that our hotel operating is match with guest satisfaction. We do apologize form our heart of all the convenience may caused . We were fixing and improvement . We do hope that our hotel will in touch and get the opportunity to welcome you back to stay with us again. Sincerely Yours, AOF Operation Manager
On arrival they demanded 2000baht for a key deposit which I think is unreasonable. I refused and so they asked for my passport, which of course I refused. It got a little nasty so I said I’ll just not stay and they then told me that I’d not get any refund at all for the four nights I booked. I was put in an impossible position, so had no choice but to stay. In the course of the heated discussion, they forgot to take my deposit, which was a small blessing. I was shown to my room which had twin beds. I always choose a large bed. I refused the room and I was by now annoyed. They then moved me next door to a room with a large bed as I had initially requested. The room as it turned out was on the road side of the hotel. I didn’t see this when I booked (CHECK)! The traffic is so bad I was awake at 6am. I complained, they said if I paid more they would move me, otherwise tough. I went to speak to the manager (Vin) - who stood smirking and saying no. The manager needs replacing.
Great grounds with beautiful views and facilities. Breakfast was very nice with lots of options. ”
Cons- our room was left open twice from housekeeping. The second time the door was wide open. All our money/passports were right there for the taking. Manger suggestion was to get a free night but had to go through agoda to do so.. So mentioning it now Pros- Bath tub with hot hot water. Private Balcony. Was roadside but no problems as other reviews mentioned.
TRUTHFUL REVIEW REGULAR SCOTTISH VISITOR TO KOH SAMUI”
I am from Dundee, Scotland and have been coming to Samui for 13 years staying 4-6 weeks often at this hotel as well many other hotels so feel I’m well placed to review honestly. I’m Scottish and expect value for money, and this hotel is, especially now under their new manager Vince, (who speaks perfect English, is local and is very professional) unbeatable all round. It is a traditional Thai hotel with a laid back approach so if you want a quiet, relaxing, no fuss hotel this is perfect. Breakfast is quite basic but good value and served to you, not a buffet. Be aware provided they understand what you’re saying and they don’t always but smile as if they do - reception, restaurant, housekeeping will all aim to please you. Hope the new manager stays a while.
Great place ”
Pool sea beach clean and very nice staff. Highly recommended
Excellent hotel. Value for money . The elevator does not work. . If you are staying at the 3rd floor ,its a good workout..Noisy if your room faces the road. Breakfast is simple. This hotel is nothing fancy. Ocean View is good but NO beach.
Dear Boonsek, Thank you for your value time to express your experiences. The elevator on process to fix soon. We wish to welcome you back to stay with us again next holiday. Samaya Bura
Enjoyed my stay, the staff was very accommodating and attentive. Rooms were clean but the bed was like cement!! Need to update mattresses and bedding for a more comfortable sleep. Did not rest well but love the island.
Not good room by busy road , very noisy and hotel is in need of renovation. We moved room because of the noise and was asked to pay for this which you would have thought they would have offered for free due to our disatisfaction.
Dont go ”
I paid for discounted room and I got discounted room, reception made me wait 1 hr fro room, as they were dealing with irate customers complaining of hotel,10pm, gave me 2 single bed for one solo guy asked to move to double bed took them another day to do that, but the room gave was next door to pump room, so I was awake all the time listening to fun pumps complained of the noise to reception, 4 days later, they wanted to move me, I told them to forget it, and Ill be leaving soon. place is no way 4 star, id give it a 1 star, for being built, thats it, change the staff manager you may've a nice hotel, never ever want to stay there again
Nice place, recommended!”
We liked this place a lot. Staff are really sweet, upgraded us with sea view 3rd floor and extra bed free of charge. Can imagine that the room facing the street is not so great so better choose sea view on higher floor. The hotel was quiet which we liked traveling with children. If you choose this hotel we can recommend an very nice restaurant with fantastic atmosphere just 200 meters south down the street from the hotel, "The New Hut Bangalow Restaurant", very nice place by the Beach!
Excellent hotel amazing views and a quiet atmosphe”
We booked three nights in advance and made an extension for another 4 nights This hotel is great for those who hires a motorcycle or a car and want to go even in Htzawng and Lamai and relax in a quiet and great hotel. The hotel staff is very nice. Breakfast is nice. Large rooms and beautiful modern Oriental furniture comfortable bed duvets pillows. Amazing amazing ocean view. The birds are chirping. The atmosphere is relaxed. Front of the hotel across the street there is a restaurant that leases motorcycles. Good decent people. I'm sure I'll be back again
Matching my expectations”
In the professional Thai tourism environment, you get what you pay for. The rooms were expensive during the New Year period, the rooms and the service were just great, perfectly matching our expectations. The New Year gala dinner was very good but no vibes at all (the guests looked sleepy), so we proceeded to the Lamai beach where thousands of people were partying, dozens fireworks and thousands lanterns enlightened the sky ... Magic !
Very fine compromise”
Thailand booking was hard during Christmas, we found this hotel which was a good compromise price/service. Rooms were quite although hotel is close to road, pools were perfect and staff was great. Good value.
This is a very nice hotel and in a good location”
The rooms and hotel are nice and quiet, next to the sea. The breakfasts and other meals are delicious and served immediately next to the sea. There is Internet in the rooms, although it is not fast; it is fast enough to do your email. Staff service is excellent...top notch. The only negative thing is that the beds are hard.
A very tired hotel”
A very tired hotel, with disinterested staff. Gives feeling that hotel could be closing. Shortages of food, crockery and staff at breakfast made getting breakfast interesting. Beach chairs are badly in need of replacement or repair.
