This was my first time living in a hostel and I have to say that Samesun Vancouver has given me a good first impression of hostels. The location is convenient, pubs, restaurants, and bus stations are only a few steps from the hostel. The front desk staff are very nice. The washroom and shower rooms are clean. I saw there were daily activities but sadly I only spent two nights there and didn’t have time for that. And free breakfast at this price is great value. I will definitely go to Samesun Vancouver or Samesun in other cities again next time!

The location is good. You can reach the center in about 15 minutes by bus or on foot! The hotel itself is large, the shower is clean, the bed is clean, and there are curtains for privacy. Towels are provided. The mattress is thick, so there is limited vertical space. For breakfast, there are three types of bagels, eggs, cucumbers, fruits, and other decent options, and it was delicious. At night, there are clubs nearby, so it can be noisy when returning. There was no explanation on how to use the room or where the towels were, which was confusing on the first day. There is no elevator, so luggage must be carried only up the stairs. It can be tough with heavy suitcases. I was grateful that the staff helped. Overall, I think staying in Vancouver for 10,000 yen is relatively cheap.

We do have rooms that face away from the street that are generally much quieter, and are usually available on request. We also offer free earplugs at the front desk. Initially, I was considering a different hostel, but this one was cheaper, and after actually staying here, I found no points of concern. If I have the opportunity to travel alone next time, I would consider choosing this place again. The mattress on the bed was soft, and I was able to sleep well and have a comfortable stay.

Overall, the Samesun Hostel was not horrible. The location was horrible and that could be my fault for not looking into the location but none of the reviews said anything bad about the area. For the price we paid for 3 days was too much. They provided bagels and some fruit but constantly ran out. There wasn’t enough seating and you couldn’t bring any food to your room. The rooms were very tiny and the AC unit was running air from outside and wasn’t being filtered. The air smelled like cigarettes, smoke, and food the entire time and it would never get cold enough. The area was downtown Vancouver and it was full of homeless people. They wouldn’t interact or be aggressive which is nice but you also never know. The entire area was locked up. We were told not to get a rental car unless we wanted to pay for secured parking 20 minutes away. We didn’t mind the walk and the staff was very nice. Personally I would not be staying there if I had to visit Vancouver again simply because of the location. For the price we paid it was just was not worth it.

The accommodation is great, fully equipped, safe, close to the center, suitable for those who like to travel alone and save money. The dorm room is a bit small, making it a little difficult to manage luggage. On weekends, the streets are noisy until late at night. Everything is wonderful.
