Do. Not. Stay. Here.”
We have been living in and/or traveling to Thailand for fourteen years, and this is BY FAR the worst hotel experience we have ever had. The hotel has the absolute rudest staff and most disgusting food of any establishment in the country. It is a wonder that it is still in business and that Agoda continues to partner with such an establishment. We moved to another hotel after one day there and both the hotel and Agoda refused to refund our money (around $200, which was an astounding sum to pay to stay at such a dump in the first place). Words can not do justice to how disgusting, overpriced, and slow the food was, not to mention the miserable staff who worked there. Do yourself a favor and do not stay here.
Always a haven for families who want to spend time together in Nature”
Thank you Samet Ville for always keeping the beach clean, and for banning plastic on the beach.
The very best beach of Koh Samet”
Ao Wai is located in the southern part of the island, about 6 km from all restaurants, bars and guesthouses. Samet Ville Resort is the only hotel on the beach, so it's calm and nice here, not as crowded as more popular beaches. And for me much more beatiful. The hotel is big, but during my stay only 1/4 - 1/3 rooms were occupied. The cottage was cosy, with great panoramic view over the beach. (Just has some issues with plumbing, do not throw anything into the toilet). The restaurant is nice, not overpriced (except for the alcohol and beers) and all in all you have no choice on this beach, if you don't have a motorbike. A motorbike is to be rented only in the village (another part of the island) or in other hotels down the road, overpriced. Tuk-tuk from the pier or from the village is 450 Baht, which is robbery. So I do recommend to rent a bike as soon as you come to the island, you can negotiate down to 250 Baht/day. The staff in the hotel is nice and friendly enough. I loved my stay!
So Bad ”
Need to lift up your game, the only good thing is the beach in front of the “resort”. Don’t aspect any confort! We are travelling from one month between Malaysia and Thailand and this resort is the worse that we have seen! Dirty rooms, pathetic restaurant, pathetic receptionist.
Angry woman who runs the shop should be in jail”
Rooms are stupid , fridge only on when key in room ?? Cannot use light switch because they install key holder over it ?? Miserable woman in shop overcharges , 395bht for 2 small chang and a sprite ! 195bht when added up myself. Then she will short change ever time if not check. Most expensive canoes on Island at 250bht/hr and the seats where broken and installed upside down ?? Big new pool , no shade for loungers , no drink allowed , closes early The beach it's self is probably the best on the island , so visit not stay this resort
The hotel has been renovated and it looks much better than before, the food is ok but a bit expensive. The staff is very helpful. Recommend not to take a boat of the resort, it takes about 45minutes to one hour and the it delay especially on the way back when the staff told me departure time was 11.00 but the actual time is 12.30!!we had checked out since 10.30 and we needed to wait for long time. If you want to rent a motorbike, I recommend you to buy a ticket to the Nadan Pier from the Pae Peir it costs only 50 thb and you can rent a bike only 300thb per day the shop is just right next to the Nadan pier and you can just ride to the hotel because if you rent from the hotel they will charge you 600 thb per day or take a shuttle car to Ao wai only cost 50thb per person. Overall is good, especially the beach is really white similar to south of Thailand and the water is quite clear. If you like snorkelling, this beach is perfect. It's not beautiful as the island in th south but you can see some corals and plenty of fish here.
Was a bit scared because of many negative reviews but we enjoyed our stay very much! The stuff is friendly and helpful, just need to make sure that they understand what exactly are you asking for. The beach is marvelous and very cozy and although a lot of people coming from other resorts, it’s quite empty before noon and after 4 pm, but it’s so hot during that time so we never spent it at the beach. We got the house that is the furthest from the beach but it’s still 2 minutes walk, quite secluded, we liked it. The houses located right at the beach looked very nice especially the further ones on the rocks. Our room was cleaned every day, the breakfast was fine too. The restaurant is overpriced and small portions. We rented a scooter right when we arrived at the pier so we were driving around a lot to the centre for the restaurant, 7-11 and massages but the drive isn’t that long (10-15 mins) and the road is good and the nature is stunning. Altogether perfect for 6 days relaxing stay.
Good Value for the money”
We have stayed at the island many times and only move around to new hotel if our favorite is booked out. This hotel is nice enough the food staff work very hard. And we thank them for looking after us.
Unhappy since day 1!”
Restaurant staff are mostly not polite. Be careful ordering set menu 99 baht, and they will tell you they don’t have, and you have to order as a dish at 230baht! This is what happened when we ordered garlic squid on rice. It’s as simple as put the garlic squid next to rice. They made us order it as dish at 230 baht + rice at 20 baht. Upon complaining, they said the set menu is for Chinese tourists. Very disappointed and unhappy in the first hour we stepped in here.
Very nice beach and pool, staff not very nice”
Lot of bungalows so it gives you enough privacy. The pool is very nice and sunny, the beach is clean and not crowed. Restaurant has decent food but service is extremely slow, unusual slow and not very friendly. That did not harm our week end but just have patience and don't take it personally (I guess?!). Also be aware that you are 10mins taxi drive from first restaurants/bar/shops and it cost around 300 to 500 one way depending on where you're going.
Excellent location with disappointing aspects”
The beach was fabulous and the food was generally pretty good, although they occasionally had to be prompted for elements of the order on food and drinks. The accommodation standard was very basic despite the price, and any requests were on the receipt of extra payment; including a bed for our son who was on the original booking!! The staff seemed friendly, but service culture was hard to find, and I received no responses to my 3 emails prior to arrival with several questions/requests. Despite this, the beach was idyllic and if are happy to forget everything else for the day then it can still be convenient lodging for a paradise holiday!
Pleasant staying at Samet Ville Resort”
Very quiet place, beautiful beach. Comfortable bungalows, cleaning made every day. Good restaurant and breakfast. Friendly staff. It's far away from the main pier and town, which is, anyway, easy to reach by pickup-taxi (50 Bat per person) or by bike, if you rent one
What a dump. Don't go there it is terrible. Been going to Thailand for 15 yrs and this is the worst”
Agoda has it at 3 1/2 stars, more like 2 stars. The taxi drops you up at the road and it's 150 m to the reception and the the same when you leave but up hill. The taxi is 450 baht each way. The food is terrible and very expensive and you can't go anywhere else unless you have transport. I ordered spaghetti and meat sauce and garlic bread. After half an hour she said they didn't have any so i ordered a salad. I got the salad and the garlic bread (3 slices of cold toast with garlic butter) because i ordered it. The breakfast is the best food but the food area smells of sewage. We sat as far from the food area as we could to eat. The rooms aren't very nice and the sheets are stained and don't fit the hard beds. My advice is don't go to this place. It's a rip off.
Positive : beach is very nice Negative : Totally overprized Room/hotel, bathroom is thai style so it s a water room in fact, the window and the door make a so Big gap that you sleep everyday with Geckos in the room , breakfast is so low food quality, even the coffe taste very very bad, restaurant is sow sow and small portion. Everything would be „acceptable” if you don t pay the Price of a good 4* hotel
In national park, all there but at first looks a bit run down ”
At first I wasn’t happy to have to go extra far on the speedboat to a more southern beach, and surprised to have to pay extra money for the hotel is in the national park. The bungalow was a bit of a walk from the reception and I felt bad that somebody carried our heavy suitcase. The bungalow looked a bit run down but it was spotlessly clean. Looking around at other hotels on the island, this seems to be the normal style and probably also due to weather conditions. Extra beds are 900 baht per night. We ended up enjoying our stay very much due to the beautiful beach (better than all others I saw), the icecream cart that came by along the main road and the friendly staff at the restaurant (long waiting times!). We would like to come back
Great beach, quiet, great for escape from noise.”
We stayed at the Superior Cottage Garden View. The room was spacious and old fashioned. It reminded me Russian dascha type of holidays: in the forest. The beach is fantastic with lots of trees which created shadows and protected you from the sunburn. The sand was white like flour. The color of the water was amazingly blue. There were a few small waves but it was possible to swim. It was a full moon period and it was very romantic to walk along the beach at night. The stuff was helpful. We like to drink hot tea or water and we asked for a kettle and they gave it to us. We rented a kayak for an hour which was a good activity to make. They have lunch menue with low prices. Minuses: my partner was bitten by some bugs, not sure if they are bed bugs or other bugs,so it is better to bring a mosquito/ bug killer with you as there is no use mosquito killer in the room. Bed sheet are grey color. It can be good to have more fruits for breakfast.
Great Beach, Okay Resort.”
This was are second visit to this resort. It's located on a great white sandy beach. This is about the best of it. The resort is just okay. This time we stayed in one of the sea bungalows. We thought they were very cool. Basic setup. Can see trough the walls and floor and perched up on stilts with a steep climb of stairs. Our room came with breakfast. It's a basic buffet of Thai food, eggs and omelets. The problem is its located next to sewage. The smell is pretty bad. Also, there are a thousand flying bugs. We were told they are a sort of bee. Climbing all over the food and table makes it not very enjoyable. If you plan to eat in the main restaurant , make sure you have plenty of time. It takes forever to get your food. I ordered coffee and it took 15 min. to get. We thought we would give this place a second chance, but this will be are last time going there.
uncrowded beach, helpful staff with excellent service, clean”
Congrats to all your staff who worked hard over the New Year & especially Mr F who served us well and always with a smile. He has made our first time visit to this beautiful resort a very memorable one. The New Year dinner and surcharge was worthwhile as all your staff deserves the highest commendation for the excellent service.
beautiful place but too expensive”
amazing beach good staff good position to stay out of the crowd but really too expensive for what they offer. Maybe it was a luxury resort now is a 2 star hotel but they still ask exagerate money. the resort is quite isolated also taxi and rent a scooter to move is absurd (all for thai standard). good restaurant good food(double price compare with other resturants in the island) feeling is I don't want to come back in koh Samet.
The worst place ever, dirty, old, bad service”
This was the worst experience ever durimg my new year season. I was there to enjoy my new year holiday with my family; but i got a bad service from staff. And there is nothing to eat/buy somthing but theirs(expensive). There is only one restaurant of theirs and taste is just so-so bht the problem is all staff is rude. No one get the order, no one do not care customer. I ordered(finally) 2 foods, abd it took 40 min. I would like to add but no one wanted to get order. Even we called one staff but she said we have to tell to other staffs not her. Amazing. Room is... amazing. Old, dirty, and please do not believe the pictures.
