We loved it here!!! ”
Getting anywhere in Thailand can be a little challenging when you don't speak the language, although almost all people in the tourist industry can manage to speak English well enough to figure out what is needed. Getting to Samet Ville Resort took a little planning but everything was done well, from flights to taxis to boats. It's a great experience to enjoy all the variety of travel modes. Samet Ville Resort is not 5 Star by international standards, I suspect, but for an average traveller like myself it was everything I would have hoped for in Thailand at a super good price for the accommodations, which included free breakfast. The beach was amazing and clean. The location is quiet, far more so than the north end of the island. You can get to Samet ville easily by boat or by taxi from the north pier. Just do your homework to figure out which option you want. We had a great experience and can't think of anything to complain about. The food in this resort is very good but if you want more variety, you'll have to travel with a taxi, moped or your feet. Highly recommend it!
The very best beach of Koh Samet”
Ao Wai is located in the southern part of the island, about 6 km from all restaurants, bars and guesthouses. Samet Ville Resort is the only hotel on the beach, so it's calm and nice here, not as crowded as more popular beaches. And for me much more beatiful. The hotel is big, but during my stay only 1/4 - 1/3 rooms were occupied. The cottage was cosy, with great panoramic view over the beach. (Just has some issues with plumbing, do not throw anything into the toilet). The restaurant is nice, not overpriced (except for the alcohol and beers) and all in all you have no choice on this beach, if you don't have a motorbike. A motorbike is to be rented only in the village (another part of the island) or in other hotels down the road, overpriced. Tuk-tuk from the pier or from the village is 450 Baht, which is robbery. So I do recommend to rent a bike as soon as you come to the island, you can negotiate down to 250 Baht/day. The staff in the hotel is nice and friendly enough. I loved my stay!
This is good, damn good.”
In spite of what many other people have written about Samet Ville Resort I must say: "This is so damn good, cool, friendly and beautiful!" Honestly this is a paradice. The Beach is super duper, the water is wonderful and only this resort. Not many people and lots of shade if u want. The Resort is really wonderful and cool. So Relaxing and friendly, and I mean it, everybody is really fantastic, smiling, helpful, friendly. We got the best service and the staff in the Restaurant were just happy and serviceminded, the food was also great. There are many options in this resort for every budget. We had the Private Cottage with Seaview, No 5. yes the furniture were a bit old, but so charming, like staying in an old wooden boat with a great private terrasse, treas and flowers and the sea. The only thing we didn´t like was the pool and the hard bed ;) Thank u Samet Ville Resort, we´ll be back ...
Beautiful resort on Ao Wai beach”
Stayed with my boyfriend. Bed very big, and very comfortable for Thailand! It had a sheet, a blanket and a nice pillow. Big, clean room with a view of the sea through floor to ceiling windows. Aircon worked powerfully and there was a fan option. There was one chair in front of the cottage. Food at the resort was usually very good, but take my advice and don't order a baked potato in the day - only from the evening bbq! Also the cheese isn't real cheese, it is burger style plastic cheese. The service was sometimes painfully slow, which didn't matter too much unless you were eating before going on a trip, but it was a little frustrating. My favourites were seafood green curry and pork bbq stick. The beach was amazing and not too busy. Much, much nicer than the other beaches we saw on the island. It had two snorkelling points that were deserted and peaceful. The resort has home made wooden swings hanging from the trees all over the place, some can fit three people at a time and are a lot of fun. There are hammocks too. There is a nice pool but we didn't go in as people with long hair must wear a swimming cap - and we prefer the sea anyway! The people staying at the resort were mainly families and couples, with a few groups of friends. They were mainly foreign with a few Thai visitors. The roads are extremely bumpy, and the taxis are more like jeeps. Make sure you get in one that has padding on the seat or you will get a sore bum! It costs 450 baht to go one way from the pier on Koh Samet to Ao Wai beach. It costs 400 baht one way to go in a taxi to the popular Diamond Beach from Ao Wai. I recommend taking a private speedboat straight to the resort from Ban Phe pier, because if you take the normal ferry you have to climb over loads of other boats at Koh Samet pier, and sometimes jump some big gaps between boats, though there are boat boys to help you with your bags. Also you don't have to bother with taxis at the other end!
Enjoy.”
The location is stunning. If you are look for a peaceful place to spend time with loved ones, this is for you. I have visited Koh Samet many times, and I enjoyed my the days at Samet Ville Resort greatly. The Thai food is very good, the western food average. Samet Ville Resort far exceeded my expectations based on the reviews viewed online. Enjoy what is around you.
Peaceful place to relax”
The room was clean and spacious. (superior room with ac - room 901) just meters away from the beach. I have read a lot of bad reviews of this resort, however I must admit that the resort was really good - worth recommending if you are looking for a quiet place with a nice beach. Maybe all the people who were dissatisfied were the ones who chose to stay in the cheapest accommodation with fan only.. Ok, the resort is old but it looks clean and well maintained. I guess you get what you pay for and that Samet Villa is a great value for the money you pay. I have stayed at other places on Samet before but this beach is really a private beach with very few people and hardly any speedboats coming in and out. The restaurant is not expensive and all the Thai food we tried was nice. To sum up.. if you are looking for a peaceful place to rest this is a good place. If you are planning a longer stay and want to go to a busier beach for dinner - it is easy to get to "more lively" beaches and come back..
Sanctuary on the party island”
I loved staying at Samet Ville, it is a quiet beach, with only this resort on it, and a great contrast from the party island side of Koh Samet, which I only knew about. Lovely, helpful staff. And I particularly enjoyed snorkeling there.
Private Beach straight out of a picture post card”
If you want to stay on koh samet, look no further than Samet Ville. The rooms are a bit on the older and musty side, but the location, that is pricless. Words cannot express how beautiful it is. Stay away from the other crowded beaches Ao Wai is the place to unwind. However if you are more of the party animal this place is not for you. It is very isolated from the rest of the island.
Great place to get away from it all”
Samet ville is a godsend. The location is way from all the noise and tourist trap. The staff were very helpful and catered to our needs including providing reservation for dinner although it was not normal. The trip around the island was great. DEFINITELY GOING BACK NEXT YEAR WITH FRIENDS.
The beach is very nice.”
The beach is very nice. The rooms are comfortable. Staff is friendly, especially kitchen staff. The resort is only one kilometer from Ao Lung Dum, from which you can start the 9 beaches walk. Unfortunately the path through the forest to Lung Dum is not well maintained. You have to walk on the road, or take a songtow which charges 200 baht for the 1 kilometer trip from Samet Ville Resort to Lung Dum. That is 200 baht for at least 4 people - I think they may take up to 10 people for that price. The road is hilly. The restaurant is expensive; the food okay, not great. Nothing there but the resort and a small shop.
Fantastic”
Every thing is great, good service, tasty food, pretty sea view, but it is far away from the pier to Samet Ville Resort, if you want to get the really nice beach, here is best chioce with no doubt. Tips: rent a moto-bike can easier and cheaper to reach here.
Good location - slow service”
Positive points: - Samet Ville is located on one of the most beautiful beach on Koh Samet, which itself is a lovely island with white sand and crystal clear greeny blue waters. This particular beach (Ao Wai) has trees therefore shade, which is useful with kids. - The bungalow we stayed in was well located, right on the sea, - They provide fresh towels/ bedding/ cleaning/ everyday if required. This is not always the case in Thailand - (Thai) food was excellent. Negative points: - Within the same price range, the quality of bungalowas vary greatly. We refused a couple before being allocated a decent one. Overall the cootages are quite worn out. You can get better bungalows for the money on Koh Samet. - There is only one restaurant on this beach and the service is VERY slow. At times we had to wait nearly an hour for our food where the same fare would normally take 5 minutes anywhere else. - Although still cheap comparatively to Europe, price of food was higher than usually found in Thailand - the beach is quite isolated which means that if you have kids or travelling at night you will rely on taxis to get to other locations/restaurants. - TYou will not get served any food after 9pm. Overall, a nice holiday but we had to take taxis to go to other restaurants to avoid the excruciatingly slow service.
Lovely resort!! Great crew!! ”
had great time staying at the samet ville resort. the crew was nice and welcoming and beach perfect. had good time at the pool as well. very recommended!!!
simple, but fair hotel on the best beach”
Ao Wai is the nicest beach on Koh Samed, fortunatelly too far from the hustle and bustle in Kai Saew. The rooms in Samet Ville Resort are available in many categories, mostly simple, but modern. The breakfast could be much better, restaurant is generally very modest.
Very pleasant stay - super friendly staff and stunning beach. ”
This is the second time we have stayed at Samet - much improved from our first stay, the staff were very helpful and happily helped us when we asked for a room closer to the beach. The food could use some improvement but otherwise we were happy. Make sure to rent a scooter at the peer to avoid transport issues though as the taxis were asking 400 baht per trip and this resort is out of the way - if you have a scooter to get around this is a great place to stay.
Pleasant stay”
I had stayed at Samet ville a number of years ago and had enjoyed my stay there then as well as this time. I even recognized one of the friendly staff who is still working there. Nice quiet beach and can walk 15 minutes down the road to see sunset. Was able to make it on time for the 10 am ferry at Ban phe pier after taking an overnight bus from Chiangmai to Rayong. My viewpoint is if you are friendly and try to learn the Thai cultural norms, you can have a great time in Thailand. Looking up "Thai cultural values" online can be a big help to understanding and will make your stay more enjoyable! Having a positive attitude helps a lot. If you look for things to complain you will not only make things miserable for others but also ruin your holiday, and what's the point of spending your hard earned dollars and flying a long distance to do that : )
Amazing place”
Had great time at for those couple of days. Prefect location room we got. Come out of the room and can here sea waves sound, 2 mins to Swimming pool, Beach, Restuarant, etc. Resort location in the island is also good. As it's slightly far from main happening area but that's make it quite. So we had an option of experiencing both the ways of Koh Samet. Resort also offer ATV, which we took and had awesome time driving around. I'm definitely going again. Cheers!
Nice hotel with a nice pool and restaurant. Secluded from the rest of the island”
The staff was nice and accommodating however their english wasn't great. Make sure you didnt book at Samet VILLA by accident !!! This hotel Samet Ville is much farther away from the pier, beaches, restaurants, and night life. You will need a taxi. The rooms were bare and decently clean.
four nights, february 2016”
Was a bit hesitant about this place because of the reviews saying the quality was highly variable, but I was impressed. Stayed four nights in a standard room (perhaps we got one of the better ones?). Room was clean, spacious, had good AC and good hot water. Only issue was ants in the bathroom but it wasn't a big deal, it's a tropical place. Staff were accommodating, not super friendly but that is totally fine. They left a bag with new towels and toilet paper every time the Do Not Disturb sign was up, which was great! Our toilet stopped working well and a staff member came to our room promptly and fixed it all up, nice. Breakfast buffet every morning was good, many options: eggs, toast, fruit, curry, rice dishes, sausages, pancakes, coffee/tea/juice. Not amazing quality or anything, but definitely good enough! Not sure about other meals because my boyfriend and I rented a motorbike to eat other places more cheaply (highly recommend this). Excellent location on Ao Wai if you are looking for more seclusion. I would recommend this resort to friends, it is very good for the price range (~40 USD/night).
Beautiful Place”
Had great time at for those couple of days. But while making a booking for this room which is Type II, we though as it's expensive it should be better but room was not as good as Type I, also it was too far from Beach. Anyway Resort location in the island was also good. As it's slightly far from main happening area but that's make it quite. So we had an option of experiencing both the ways of Koh Samet. Resort also offer ATV, which we took and had awesome time driving around. I'm definitely going again. Cheers!
