Wouldn't stay anywhere else!”
Santiago was only a short taxi/bus ride from the train station and very close to great sights including areas such as Gion! The staff were super accommodating and welcoming and very informative! The guesthouse was comfortable and private yet a great social place to meet people! After my stay I would always go back to Santiago guesthouse in Kyoto!

Exceptional”
Overall, we had a great stay in Santiago guesthouse. Here are some good and not so good points: > They let you stay on their lobby and use their bathroom even we are not yet checked in. (We came from Tokyo and arrived at 8am while check in time is 4pm, they let us use their facilities and left our luggage in the 2nd flr.) > They keep the facilities clean (bathroom, common area, kitchen). I saw the two receptionist was also cleaning the kitchen and the carpet at the same time. > Even you accidentaly left some stuffs from the bathroom, they will put it in the lavatory for you to see it. > I love the carpeted hallway. Not so good... > 20 minute walk from the nearest train station. > You can hear the traffic noise.

Budget hostel with ambiance”
I really enjoyed my stay in the Santiago-Pension, Kyoto. It is a very convinient location and closely located to the bus stop. But you also can walk to many attractions from there. The rooms had multiple bunkbeds but each of them had curtains and gave you a lot of privacy. I would say that the quality of the beds was just fine and they provided good blankets. The showers are time regulated and you have to repress the button to get water, which I found a bit annoying but after all saving water is an important issue. On the groundfloor there is a small cafe where you can have some snacks and drinks and the first floor offers hot water, fridge and microwaves to prepare some food. I was fully satisfied with my stay there and will recommend it to my friends and if I ever return to Kyoto I would stay there again.

It was cheap, friendly staff and safe. ”
Santiago is a very nice to stay if you want to safe money and at the same time stay on a nice guesthouse. There is room for people who like to stay up late and party at the dining room and at the restaurant bar. Also this place is for people who sleep very early (the dormitory is very quiet and people are very respectful)and does not like to party. I was worry that In the dormitory that I stay with other girls, that they would be loud and have the lights on. The place is also nicely located in Gion, and the bus stop is very near. The hotel can give you a map of the different routes and you can even buy an all day ticket form the lovely staff. You will save money if you buy the all day pass.

Excellent”
It was a pleasant experience at Santiago, very conveniently located near Kiyomizujyo station. Staff, especially the student from Turkey was really nice. However, the room can get noisy due to the traffic but its more of a reminder to the light-sleepers out there to bring ear plugs and not of a complaint (: toilets were nice and clean (: the cafe also served decent toast for breakfast - cost and quality wise. but i had a bad experience with the pancake - was still frozen in the centre, i guess the microwave didnt do its job thoroughly.. all in all, it was a plesant experience in santiago! would recommend it to those visiting Kyoto!

Amazing Staff”
The place is clean, the people are friendly, the facilities are confortable. What it makes the difference though it's María, the receptionist and manager of the place. She was always there for help when needed and she was able to communicate in many languages. She also gave accurate recommendations on where to go to discover Kyoto. Thanks for all the people at Santiago for making me feel at home. Daniel

Good hostel, comfy beds - little bit far away.”
Enjoyed my 2 night stay at Santiago Guesthouse. Facilities are clean - although shower is a press every 5 seconds kind of deal - quite annoying. staff were really helpful. Would visit again!!

Awesome Guesthouse”
It was great! It's only a short bus stop away from Kyoto Station. Get on either 206 or 100 and get off at Gojo-zaka Station. Back track around the corner and it's right there. So many good points about this place: cafe on the first floor with plenty of seats and a few dining options. Staff was super friendly and helpful and spoke really good English. Beds were comfortable. In my experience, it was quiet - no noisy bed mates. At the first desk, you can rent a bike, buy an all-day Kyoto bus pass, and buy other simple amenities. Located right down the street from Kiyomizu-dera. About a 5 to 10 min walk from Kiyomizu-Gojo Station (subway station) - which along the way has plenty of spots to eat and convenience stores as well. Several shower stalls, a "living room" or shared public space with computers and free internet (a bit slow though), and free wifi. I highly recommend booking this place during your stay in Kyoto, especially if you're solo and on a budget. I would totally stay here again.

Soooo Good. Even better than a 5* experience”
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Santiago guest house. My first time staying in a guest house and I like it better than the 5* Nikko in Minato ku, Tokyo. Service are more genuine and the people are real in Santiago. It is the best accommodation we had in whole of our Japan trip. We were staying mostly in Nikko hotels ( 3 Nikko hotels)and another 5* hotel in Osaka.

Good location, nice staff”
Good experience to stay in Santiago Guesthouse! Nice location to visit Kyomizudera. I met lots of visitors from different countries here. Though I regreted to refuse when the staff invited me to sing Karaoke together at the ground floor. It should be of great fun.

par for the course”
Santiago is a nice place to stay. Clean, quiet, fun. Good facilities. The food/drink selection is too pricey and underwhelming. There should at least be a free instant coffee / tea bag option. This is Japan, after all. We enjoyed our stay altogether, and we would probably return if we found ourselves back in Kyoto in the future.

Our stay”
It was a great place to stay. Everyone in our group was really pleased with the guesthouse and happy that we stayed with them for 4 nights. The beds were clean, they offered wifi and computers, the showers were nice, the cafe/restaurant downstairs had some great food, and there was tons to see in the area. Also the staff was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the different things to see and do in Kyoto.

The best!”
The best guesthouse i've been in my whole trip in Asia! I don't know what to say about the Santiago Guest house, it was perfect! The staff is so helpful and friendly, all the time they want to help you!

convenient and pleasant ”
Conveniently located, corner intersection, same bus-stop for Kiyomizu Temple, close to local restaurants, eastern sights, and marts. Discounted coupons for the restaurant can be purchased at reception, can also purchase 1day bus-cards. Staff spoke english well, and helped me out in a little bicycle accident drama too. There's an area to place your bulky luggage, and a coin operated washing machine and dryer on the top floor as well as roof top access for smokers or just a pleasant view of eastern Kyoto and Kyoto Tower in the distance. Really pleasant stay, will definitely recommend, only note is that mattress is a really soft foam in that you feel the wooden base beneath, so might not be comfy for some. You can use the thick duvets as extra padding though, as the rooms are heated.

Very nice stay, not the most comfortable.”
Santiago Guesthouse is very clean, the staff are very friendly. However it is not in a very good location, and the showers were atrociously small and had very little water pressure.

Excellent”
Price: definitely getting your money's worth! Location: a little far from Kyoto station. Take either bus 206 or 101 and get off at Gojo-zaka, backtrack a little and it's right on the corner. Or take the subway and get off at Kiyomizu Gojo. It's a good 15 min walk from there. You're down the block from Kiyomizu-dera. You can walk there and a few other places as well. Getting to Arashiyama is a bit of an inconvenience. Service: staff were very friendly and spoke very good English. Super helpful, and they provide any amenities you might need (towels, toothbrush, laundry detergent, bike rentals, bus pass, etc.) for a small price. So convenient! Stayed there 2 nights. Beds are comfortable, quiet for the most part. Highly recommend here!

I liked it!”
I liked Santiago Guest House! The friendly and helpful staff, the location close to Kiyomizu Temple and Gion, the atmosphere, and also the sleeping pod was cozy and okay, although the air got a bit sticky with the windows closed. Great value for the price I paid.

Santiago Guesthouse provides just what you need for spot-on price”
If you're looking for low-price stay, shower, bed, kitchen etc. this is your best bet. Access to downtown and nishiki market is cheap and easy. Interesting visits and sights are close. Me and my girlfriend visited Kyoto for sightseeing and nightlife and this place gave us everything we needed. The only possible con is snoring roommates in the dormitory. But if you can handle that, there's no reason you wouldn't want to stay here. Excellent value for money. Recommended.

It was a good deal for solo travelers. ”
I stayed here for 5D4N and just paid less 6k JPY which is one of the best offers one could get. Note: It was July 6-10 (maybe a slack season) Access: For me this is better than staying near Kyoto Station. This is near Kiyomizu Temple, Gion District, Yasaka Shrine. So if you wanted to walk around these places, this is a good place. Walking down the Yasaka dori to Gion during sunset is a must especially with the Golden Hour. You can get nice shots. 😊 Amenities: The wifi does not work well and the room smells (i think musty) Kitchen - You can cook. Iron for clothes - I hope they have iron or steamer for our wrinkled clothes that we can borrow or rent. 😊 Toilet and shower room - the places are clean. They even have free bath soap and shampoo. Freebies: They offer good discount prices of the food in the cafe below. You get a free sake or a plum wine. Will I be going back? Definitely yes. Will recommend this place to friends.

Clean & quiet dorm ”
The only thing I can complain is that people here are so quiet in the dorm, you have to go downstairs to use your telephone. But the common room is obviously not big enough and you have to take and take off your shoes to the ground floor frequently. The location here is close to the Kiyomizu-dera, but since there's no metro or railway station nearby, use your google map to help you catch the bus. We visit here during the new year holidays, Santiago offered a very cheap price, it's very worth when all the other hotels and guesthouses were full in Kyoto.
