Great as a coastal safari base”
Gorgeous pools, good AC, lovely staff
I didn't get a refurbished room and my friends did - there is a huge difference so make sure to ask. The beach isn't great as it is very tidal and is swarmed with 'beach boys' hassling you. However the hotel set up our safari and it was phenomenal - as a coastal safari base the place is perfect. It's a 2-3 hour drive from the parks but if you're doing a 3-4 day safari that's fine. As far as standard of hotel, it's not 5 star by any means but it's trying to be, and this or Serena is the best you'll do on the Mombasa north strip. Due to the lack of tourists recently the value was insane. The Kenyan people are incredibly friendly, and almost all speak English. The staff weren't always brilliantly competent, but were always eager to help and lovely people.

Beach, Staff and convenience.
Right on the beach wonderful Indian Ocean. Great for swimming and waterspouts. Restaurant good, staff friendly. Well located to Mombassa Town and the Airport.

Loved My Stay”
Sports and water activities, nnext to road, white beaches
We loved our stay there. We had originally planned to just attend a conference but decided to extend our stay coz of the cozy setting. No regrets choosing whitesands or better yet Agoda, to do the booking for us. Highly recommended

Started realllyyyy bad but finished smoothly”
Staff. Shisha. Renovated rooms
We were so disappointed with this hotel right from the beginning. First meal: cockroach in the brownies on the buffet table. Room: terrible. Without knowing, we booked the standard room which hadnt been renovated. Bathroom disgusting. The drain was clogued and sending back hairs which did not belonged to us. Had to stop the water running while showering to prevent flood. The general cleanliness of the room was really poor too. The bed was rock hard. And after a safari and long trip from Masai Mara, I was hoping to get a bit of luxury and comfort but I was wrong! I was sooo out of it that I got up in the middle of the nite to make amendments to my flight to come back home earlier. We complained and requested to be moved to a superior room so that we could at least spend a good night before leaving in the morning (and therefore cancelling the rest of our stay). We were then moved to a newly renovated room. Day and night compared to the previous one. Guys be aware that if you choose to stay in this resort to not book a standard room as these blocks have not been renovated yet. The superior rooms are very comfortable. The management did everything to convince us to stay as planned which we did. We however refused to eat from the buffet which was part of our half board plan so we ordered every single meal à la carte. So our whole experienced cost us more than expected. Although the management have allowed us to stay in the new room for the price of the standard and they offered us a nice meal in their seafood restaurant where the quality was a lot better than at the buffet restaurant. We were also given our last breakfast for free and received a bottle of wine. On top of that, I think we pretty much met with every single management staff member who came to apologize a trillion times and followed up on the rest of our stay. Thank God for these guys as they really changed our initial perception of the hotel and made the rest of our stay a lot more enjoyable.

Food, Staff and the beach location
Very enjoyable stay. Exceeded expectations. Okay the room was a bit dated but they are renovating them at the moment so I cant complain. Otherwise, the staff are very attentive and friendly and the food is exceptional.

Swiming pool, Beach, Sun bath.
Whitesands is a nice hotel, very relax. we stay there about one week. But we lost some money in the room, I lost $300 my friend lost $200, we found out later when we left.

NIce hotel but bad weather”

In June, the weather is not nice in Mombasa. So we had to spend a lot of time in the room. There could be a larger variety of TV channels. However, the hotel was full of pupils who obviously had gotten a good deal for the low season. But the hotel was not prepared to be almost fully booked as it was understaffed. Especially in the restaurant the service was really slow. And the food was not that good as expected. Maybe because they think that the youth is not so choosy with food? Otherwise, I assume that during normal season, the service and quality is better for such a higher priced hotel.
