Ok hotel, very cheap, good location”
Aircon, flushing toilet, shower, small crt TV with sports channels and a fairly comfortable bed, some free water. But don't expect much else for this price in savannakhet. The best way to describe it is to say it is more popular with asian tourists on a tight budget, western tourists may expect a little more and might be disappointed. As an expat on a visa run I found it satisfactory, but I won't go out of my way to recommend it to any of my friends. Basic, a bit shabby in places but alright when the price is considered. Good location though, plenty of restaurants close by. But not a lot to do in this town.

Staff spoke zero English and no wifi ”
When we arrived at the hotel, the man on reception couldn't speak a word of English, nor could he understand that we had already made a reservation and paid for it already. He finally took us to our room but kept asking for money. Wifi is non existent away from reception. Our toilet was leaking so the bathroom floor had a huge puddle. Good location for savannakhet, but don't go there in low season as we were pretty much the only tourists and the majority of restaurants and attractions were closed.

DO NOT STAY”
The rooms very dirty and had gaping holes which let in a lot of Mosquitos. The staff took a long time to sort our booking. I have stayed in many budget hotels on my travels and this was by far the worst. It felt unsafe and we left a night early.

As expected”
Price, location and maybe the price again
The place was just a little less of what i expected, but all in all it was still worthed for the price i paid. When i first arrived, it looked as the place had just been bombarded, just after a closer inspection and the absence of any sounds of explosions i realize that the reasons for all those big piles of rubbles, bricks, cements and the buildings looking empty and devastated, was because a major refurbishment was taking place. There was no dead or alive bodies anywhere for the first 20 minutes, then a woman showed up and gave me the key for the room. At night it was quiet (if you don't mind the sound of the water dripping out of the air condition unit, i strongly suggest you to use the provided bucket you have in the toilette, unless you want to see your belonging floating in the morning). You also have a tv the size of a football, forget about being able to see anything, the signal (analog, not digital) it's so weak that if you are lucky and twist the right way the wire of the aerial, maybe you will be able to hear the news from BBC International. Internet it's not a known utility here, or maybe it exploded just before my arrival, i don't know, but if you select carefully your eateries around, it shouldn't be a problem. Small tip for you adventurous travelers: if you take the international bus, remember that you will have to get out at each of the two borders (thai and lao), do not leave anything into the bus (or you might just want to kiss it first and goodbyes) because the passports controls are incredibly slow and the drivers will just go without you, so, take your stuff with you or you it might be the last time you will see it. Even if you run to be the first of your bus, there is no guarantee that there are not other people from previous buses(or from wherever else) already in a queue, it's a total mess,....good luck!

Mosquitos ”
Location
Room was full of Mosquitos, changed rooms second night and was slightly better. Other than that the place was as expected for a 1 star room. Very sleepy town/village wouldn't come back here.

Grubby place to stay. ”
Getting a room, running water, electricity.
After killing a dozen mosquitos in the room. We noticed we were not the first who had that problem. Slipper prints all over the bathroom walls. Staff was not friendly or helpfull and they were building a new rooms. Maybe these will be better. I've seen many hotels but this one will not be recommended by me.

Perfect For Us”
Price, quiet location, convenient to shops and eating places
My wife and I stayed at Savanbanhao Hotel for 6 days. I read all the available reviews before booking. Price, quiet and convenient location were our top priorities and this hotel seemed perfect for us. We are experienced in traveling through SE Asia. Savannakhet is a small town in Laos. The hotel is what we expected for the price. The staff were helpful and accommodating, but reserved like Lao culture. It helps if you can speak at least some Thai. There was one your man who spoke every good English and was very helpful to assist us when we asked. Some new construction is happening on the property, but not active until our last day there. There is no food service at the hotel, but you can buy things to keep in the larger rooms with fridge. The bed mattress was thin, but we expected that. The one disappointment was discovering that the Thai Consulate has moved to a new location, but still an short tuktuk ride away. We would gladly book this hotel in the future.

Cheap, close to river and shops”
Location, price
Agoda asks is this hotel is the best hotel in the world. Daft question for a 1 star hotel. This isn't even the best 1 star hotel in the world. But it is adequate and fair for the price. On the positive side it is only a 10 minute walk to the Mekong River and a block from one of the main shopping streets in Savannakhet. My room was large with attached bathroom and I had the whole building to myself. There was a good balcony to sit on to observe the street life below. Good wifi in the reception area but very weak and intermittent in my room. My room wasn't cleaned during my time there (my choice) but bottled drinking water was left outside each day. On the negative side, my booking was recorded but not the room price: on Agoda I booked a basic standard room, but the guy at reception only knew rooms by the rate. He had to ask me how much I paid, which I could not remember: Agoda listed two types of rooms and two prices, the hotel has four room rates. My room clearly did not see a lot of service, there was a large amount of dirt behind the door and dust under the bed. The mattress was hard (something commented on by other reviewers) but this didn't bother me. One towel rack in a twin room. No longer convenient for the Thai consulate since it relocated up past the bus station - a 40 minute walk or expensive tuk tuk trip away. Cheap but good quality food options in Savannakhet are very limited. On the corner of Kinnali and Khanthabouly Rds (opposite Vat Xaiyaphoum) there is a small restaurant (Lao name only) that serves great food at affordable prices. Open 1100-2200, closed Sundays. Very highly recommended.

price, dog friends, location
Ok. Have good a.c. thou not say so on agoda. Not so much contact with staff as we kept our own room. Hard bed, but that's Lao standard. Under bed dead cockroaches. But no worries. I think for the price they charge the deliver good rooms in good central location. Close to Mekong river. Shops. Farang restaurants if that's what you like. I say stay here if you want budget, good value.

It's location, the size of the room ( huge) and everything worked
We thought this was excellent value for $10 US. The location is excellent, the manager was as helpful as he could be given the language difference, The water was hot, the aircon worked and the room was clean. Bed is a bit hard, the furniture a bit tired, and the curtains are just able to do their job. It's a " good " one star hotel

Okay for a night”
cheap price, air conditioning, cable TV
I stayed in one of the budget $9 rooms. I wasn't sure if it would be a fan or an A/C room at that price. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it did include air conditioning. The room was about what you would expect for the price. It was clean, but there was mold on the walls in spots. The bed was hard as a rock and the towel and linens, while clean, were dingy. The bathroom also had small slits in the wall to allow ventilation. They were up high on the wall and were quite narrow, so privacy wasn't an issue, however, there was no screen to cover them, so any kind of bugs could get in. I wasn't sure if there was wifi at the hotel either, because it wasn't listed on the Agoda profile. When I arrived, I was pleased to see a password written on the white board in the lobby. However, I was sad to discover that the wifi was only available in the lobby and not in the rooms. All in all it wasn't a bad place to stay for a night. You can't beat the price, but next time I'll probably spring for the more deluxe room.

I have stayed in Savanbanhao hotel 3 times, it a bit old and worn but its perfect location, Staff is fun and easy to deal with, always had a nice room with good mattress and aircon working good and good fridge, the rooms are massive and each building have a terrace with fans thats nice to sit and chill with a cold beer lao, the mekong river front is about 2-300 meters away so NO need for tuk tuk, Some might not like it but i do, and will always choose this hotel for my little 3 monthly excursions to Lao
