This place oozes colonial history and the rooms are impeccable with polished teak floors and crispy cotton sheets. Savoy Hotel is just a 10-minute walk to Schwedagon Pagoda. Other attractions are all a short taxi ride down the street. Rooms by the pool can be quieter than those facing the road which does have some traffic. There is a lovely reading room on-site where one can enjoy a drink or simply read the paper. This boutique hotel is one of the top places to stay in Yangon. One of the more memorable details that leaves a lasting impression on guests is the collection of antiques and art that's spread around the hotel.

Comfortable Low Key Luxury”
we stayed at three "luxury" yangon hotels during our recent stay in burma: the strand, the governor's residence and the savoy hotel. the savoy was our favorite, mainly because it manages to offer great service without trying to hard. the staff is attentive without being obtrusive. the property is convenient for visiting shwedagon and within a short taxi ride of downtown yangon. there are several interesting dining possibilities nearby. the only downside for us was the smoke in the bar. it's a lovely spot, but too many smokers for us. fortunately, there is a connected lounge with bar service and, when we were there, no smokers.
Vacation in Yangon”
We loved our recent stay at the Savoy! We studied all the hotels in Yangon based on location and styles. We found this to be the best for us. We were visiting a relative who is living there and was told this location to be central for our all activities. It was a quick drive everywhere we need to go. The Savoy surpassed our expectations! The staff was so professional and the hospitality was amazing. Everyone was friendly, the rooms were extremely clean. The daily breakfast and the restaurant was great. The entire grounds were beautiful. My son unexpectedly was sick with high fever and stomach issues and the caring staff brought us a special tea. We were also celebrating my husbands birthday and they surprised us with a cake. their attention to details was very appreciated. The classic Burmese style of the hotel added to our cultural experience. I would also like to commend Ei Ei Zau Min, Wint The Maw, Teint Thander Swe, Thon Htut, and Tarson for the excellent Service!
A hidden gem!”
This was a little cocoon of quiet, greenery and relaxation in the middle of bustling Yangon. The hotel is small and is OOZING character, unlike most of the other large chain, modern hotels in Yangon. The staff were lovely (no surprise as this was commonplace throughout Myanmar) and the hotel was full of lots of interesting furniture, traditional laquerware from Bagan, weavings from Chin state and just overall had a very eclectic and homely vibe. The pool was such respite after a day wandering temples. We ate lunch and dinner at the Savoy, both times in the bistro and had the best food we had in our two week trip. The beetroot and feta salad was absolutely delicious, with a truffle dressing for added decadence! The only issue we had was with a room. We stayed 2 nights and everything was fine, I think that was room 307. Then we stayed another night before we went home (room 203) and the room smelt damp and musty, the AC did not work properly and the shower pressure was really bad.
Relaxing atmosphere with friendly, attentive staff”
The staff was friendly, competent and very helpful. The hotel has very good security and the rooms are spacious and have all the amenities you could want. The atmosphere is like a boutique hotel and the feel being transported to back another era The breakfast buffet was excellent, as were the restaurants with quick efficient service. Though I was in Yangon on business, the hotel is very relaxing and my stay was very pleasant. There are three totally different restaurants just across the street from the hotel, along with several small shops. I highly recommend the Savoy and will return my next trip to Yangon.
an oasis with exceptional service”
we stayed only one night at the savoy, and were pleased with the elegant decor, our comfortable room and most of all by the lovely pool area, which is indeed (as so many have described it) an ideal oasis after a morning of sightseeing in bustling, dusty yangon. it's the superbly trained staff, though, that earns the savoy five stars. we had several hours in transit in yangon before our morning flight from mandalay and our evening flight out of the country. when we returned to the savoy (paying a $15 pool-access fee), every request we had was met with a smile: reconfirming our flights, charging our devices, arranging taxis, posting mail and more. many other hospitality groups could learn much from the staff here.
Beautiful Colonial Feel of A Hotel”
The hotel premises was great and the room was also spacious. The staff were all very well trained and can converse in English. Front office are also very helpful and I was on hand to witness Miss Thazin Hnin and Miss Khin Po Po Myo assist a hotel guest, while waiting to ask something. Driver for airport transfer was also highly friendly and courteous and tell us more on Myanmar as we made our journey to hotel. Yangon traffic is not very good and it can take a while to get to places. Housekeeping and restaurant staff were also excellent and have good attitude. Great job Savoy Hotel!
Calming, intimate, colonial-style in bustling area”
Wonderful stay (alas only for 1 night) at the Savoy. It is small in size but with a lovely pool and full-service restaurant it has all the amenities of a larger hotel. The staff is very attentive and kind. Beautiful colonial-style architecture and design; you feel like you are staying in an old, private mansion. We had a room overlooking the pool and were not disturbed by any of the street noise; we rather enjoyed the hotels location as it was in a bustling urban township very close to Shwedagon Pagoda and within easy walking distance to a host of eating/drinking options (options begin literally across the street). Readily-available taxis to downtown Yangon cost 2000 kyat (about $2 US) each way.
Fabulous colonial hotel in Yangon”
Savoy Hotel is an amazing place in Yangon with a beautiful pool. Rooms are nice and comfortable. The staff is discreet and very attentive. The food is amazing, certainly the best place I ate in Myanmar. We really enjoyed our stay in Savoy Hotel. We recommend this hotel and we would stay here again without hesitation!
Wonderfully relaxing stay in great location”
Hotel Savoy was the first hotel we had in Myanmar, and it was lovely. The staff were all so wonderfully kind to us - helping us arrange transportation from place to place, as well as giving recommendations as to what we should see, etc. The food was lovely as well, a great mix of local and international (comfort...) food was available as well. It was extraordinary to just look out at Shwedagon Pagoda from our table... they light it up at night and the site was just beautiful. Apparently this hotel is formerly the governor's mansion? Anyway, it is a relic of old colonial times. The experience was so wonderful that we ended up staying here again on nightly return to Yangon to leave Myanmar the next day.!
A nostalgic trip to times past”
There are more modern hotels in Yangon, and I'm sure more luxurious, but there's just a charm about the Savoy that made it worth the visit for me. An echo to times past, you can have high tea in the cafe looking out of the window, and imagining yourself in a bygone age. The location is good, close to the Shwedagon Pagoda, and the staff were fantastic. Friendly and accommodating, they made me feel very welcome (and as I was a single traveler, this was particularly welcome). As an extra, you can hire a hotel car for about $15 an hour. Admittedly a bit more than a rate for a taxi, but the car is air conditioned with in my case an English speaking driver. I took it for 4 hours and managed a great half day tour to the Shwedagon Pagoda, Scottt Market and the Myanmar National Museum. All in all, a lovely stay.
Affordbale comfort & picturesque colonial style”
I travelled in a group of 3 girls. The triple room we had was spacious and beautifully presented with fresh flowers, robes, plenty of towels and complimentary water. The staff was attentive and kind. Always greeting us with a genuine smile and even gave us complimentary water pistols for the Thingyan Festival which was taking place in the city. I would recommend this hotel to couples, families with older children, groups, older travellers, business travellers. I would definitely consider staying at the Savoy on my next trip to Yangon.
Great colonial hotel, good location, helpful staff”
Stayed here for 1 night at the end of May. This is low season in Myanmar so the hotel was very quiet. It is a lovely old colonial building on a busy corner just outside the centre of town. The staff were super helpful and couldn't do enough to help - organise early wake up call, breakfast in my room, flight tickets, taxis etc. as it was low season there were some minor renovations happening and the pool was closed but otherwise was great place - having stayed in other places in Yangon I would definitely recommend the Savoy if you want somewhere with a bit of character and class.
From arrival at this beautiful place to check out, everything was amazing. The location is just outside the main hub of the city very close to the Shwedagon Pagoda. We walked into the main area where the markets and river are quite easily, although in November it was very hot & humid. After a long day sightseeing The Savoy really is a welcome oasis. Every member of staff we spoke to was very friendly, helpful and had a 'can do' attitude. We booked this as our first trip to Myanmar to get a taster and check it out in order to plan a longer trip in the future. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Yangon.
Charming in Yangon”
If you're looking for modern and western, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for quiet colonial charm in the midst of a bustling Southeast Asian city, this is the right place. The biggest downside of the Savoy is that, like all hotels in Yangon at the moment, it is very expensive. Staying here is a treat that I allow myself during the off season when prices are lower.
Very good in very difficult circumstances”
We stayed at the Savoy in the immediate afermath of the cyclone Nargis, when many other hotels were closed due to lack of electricity. The Savoy stayed open, operating a generator 6 hours a day and pumping water from its own well. The rest of the time it was candlelight and torches....and yes, at times it was very hot! Due to circumstances, the restaurant and bar menus were very reduced. Nevertheless, we appreciated all the efforts made by the staff and the General Manager to keep things going as well as possible. The hotel itself has a lot of charm, and we look forward to staying here again under more normal conditions! Once again bravo to all the team there for making it as comfortable as possible in a very difficult time.
A calm oasis in a bustlingcity”
Savoy hotel is among the best in Yangon, with (high) price to match. Even though located away from the main tourist area, I found the location great since its walking distance to Shwedagon Pagoda and many restaurant options are nearby. The staff work very hard to provide excellent customer service.
Superb colonial hotel in the middle of Yangon.”
Had a wonderful stay at The Savoy. A beautiful, colonial hotel full of character. Impeccable service and cleanliness. Cannot fault the hotel at all. Overpriced but all hotels in Yangon are at a premium. Try Onyx for a superb steak. Only a two minute walk away up a dusty side street.
Can't say enough good things about the Savoy Hotel”
We loved the place - the rooms, the pool, proximity to Shwe Dagon (5 minute cab ride), the wonderful staff, great breakfast, great restaurant, coolest bar in Yangon, the whole bit. The Savoy is great for families, couples, or business travelers (I have stayed there on business in the past, this was vacation.)
Christmas in Yangon”
We stayed at the Savoy for two nights over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The hotel is charming, well kept and takes you back in time. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and always had a smile. Our room was on the 2nd floor, facing the internal courtyard. The original wooden staircase takes you up two floors, past many original ornaments and paintings. The porters insisted they carry our bags up and down the stairs, which they did with a smile. There are many quirks with a hotel this age: the showers don't maintain a constant temperature, the last step on the stairs is higher than the others. But these all make the experience real. A truly majestic hotel, in a wonderful city. Highly recommend.
Nice small colonial style hotel”
Savoy is a small hotel in colonial style near Swe Dagon Pagoda. The rooms are ample and nice, the swimming pool, although small, is also nice, and the hotel staff is friendly and helpfull. The price I payed was not chip, but better than for other 4* or 5* hotels in Yangon. Weak points: zone with some noise (not terrible), some details in maintenance, breakfast OK but not very good. Overall, I recommend the hotel if the rate is good.
