Nice and well located hotel.”
The room and the bathroom are large and quite clean. The lights in the room were not very bright, but it gave a warm feeling. The staff was very nice and helpful. The breakfast was very good also. I totally recommend this place in Luang-Prabang!

A good friendly place right by the Mekong”
Sayo River has a great location facing the Mekong, towards the tip of the peninsula, within very easy walking distance of all the main sights and the night market. Our room was large and airy, and the bed very comfortable. The breakfasts were big, with eggs cooked as we like them and good coffee. We thoroughly enjoyed our 8 night stay, and would definitely recommend the guest house to other travellers. As with everywhere, there is still potential for improvement, and we hope the management will note the following points. A proper security box (which Agoda lists as a feature) in every room is essential. Being shown a wooden box, with the suggestion we should buy our own padlock, was not a good start to our stay. They did find us a padlock and key, but it must be a priority for them to install the proper item. Considering the size of our room (S03), there would have been a lot of space for a wardrobe and a chest of drawers, but we had neither. Being able to unpack and store clothes for a stay of our length is important. They need to find a way to stop the shower flooding the bathroom floor, something we achieved using the small hand towels, but it’s poor design. Biggest issue by far – breakfast starts way too late. It’s nominally 7:30, but a lot of tours pick up at 8:00am. If you could actually sit down and start to eat your breakfast at 7:30 prompt that would be OK, but they only start thinking about preparing it then, and it isn’t served until about 7:50 or 7:55, so you have to eat in a hurry. Also there is one young woman who arrives on her motorbike every day at 7:30, then just sits down and watches TV while the young guys work. We don’t know who she is, but she completely ignores the guests waiting for their food, she is lazy and useless, and creates a very poor image for the guest house. She should be told to do some work, or watch TV some place else.

Amazing and cheap stay”
I had an amazing stay at Sayo though the wifi isnt strong n consistent. Always had to get the staff to reset or go out wifi hunting. However, room size was great and toilet was quite clean. I have to thank one of the staffs for sharing great info about Laos during one of his nightshifts. A great pal. Also, Sayo had few cafes surrounding it so chilling was such an ease. Overall, I would stay at Sayo again but this time hope the wifi is consistent.

Rustic retreat on the Mekong”
We had to book a hotel in Luang Prabang at the last minute, and the Sayo Guesthouse was the best option we found. However, because it is very spartan and rustic, we found it greatly overpriced. The bathroom had no shower basin, just a too-short curtain, so the floor stayed wet a long time. Luckily we weren't attacked by mosquitoes, given open spaces around window and door. The hotel is close to the best temple in town and ten minutes walk to the center, on a relatively quiet street near the tip of the peninsula, thus a good location. There was free tea and water at anytime, unlimited, which I appreciated. I especially enjoyed sitting out on the balcony watching people go by and the street action. The staff was also helpful. Our main objection is that we paid more than double what the room was worth, perhaps given the mass of tourists in high season who visit L.P. We could eat breakfast across the street, bordering the river, which was pretty decent.

heritage guest house”
Comfortable rooms in one of Luang Prabangs first guest houses. Nice views of the Mekong from upstairs rooms, but busy minor road outside. Close to the centre of town. Staff helpful and friendly; most speak some English. Good breakfasts.

Cheap Clean Quiet .... Sayo 'River' Hotel”
Don't expect too much from this low budget Hotel, but it was clean, everything in my room functioned OK, it did have free Wi Fi but it was slow, suitable for sending and receiving messages only (Not downloading) ... there is no restaurant as such, breakfast consist of everyway that eggs can be cooked (Your choice), endless supply of tea and coffee throughout the day, no dinner service but there a lot of good quality restaurants along the river front just a short walk away. Like most places in Luang Prabang, the airport is only a 10 minute drive by Tuk Tuk away, the bus station is a little closer. Its a good 10++ min walk to the Night Markets, bars and main restaurants ... which is not so bad for a walk back on a full stomach of excellent Luang Prabang food.

Nice rooms, good value. ”
The stay at Sayo River is easily recommended. Even though the staff could be a little bit friendlier (not that they were unfriendly) and they did not serve breakfast, we found this place to be great value for this location on the peninsula. Relaxed atmosphere and beautiful rooms. Their cheapest rooms are nice enough, pay more to get to the second floor with better view, but we didn't find that neccesary.

Great small hotel”
Had a great weekend at Sayo as usual. This is my fourth time in LP and we're always stay at Sayo guest house. Lovely small hotel, nice rooms, friendly staff and reasonable prices. Only few minutes walk to night market. Highly recommended

Nice location, but...”
Sayo River is in a beautiful location overlooking the Mekong. Someone our group knew had recommended it. The staff was nice, but never seemed to go out of their way to make the stay extra special. For example, once I asked about something for the room and the guy behind the desk barely looked up from his mobile phone to speak with me. He followed through with the request, though. Linens on the bed were quite old and there was a strong sewer smell coming from the drain pipes in the bathroom every night. Their solution was to leave a dirty looking rag on top of the drain in the floor. This issue with the smell is what would keep me from booking this property again. Breakfast was not very good, so we decided to go out to breakfast the last two mornings. This hotel has such a beautiful location, a few updates and some extra training would make it a truly lovely experience.

Good location”
we ended up staying in their largest room in fact the bathroom alone was the size of some double rooms we have had. it was like something out of an agatha christie movie, fabulous. besides that though the daytime staff were very unfriendly and one man at times was quite nasty. it is a good walk to get to a cafe for breakfast and everything in luang prabang is quite pricey but worth it for it's uniqueness.

A great find”
Very happy with our four days at Sayo. Certainly not the most flash place in LP, but homely, on the promenade, close to everything and with helpful staff. Got a nice big airy room with mozzie nets, looking out across the Mekong. Loved the room safe; a great iron trunk, no problem fitting everything in there, but bring your own padlock. There are so many classy options for breakfast close by that not including it is actually a positive.

great location”
Sayo River, The hotel as it is announced, is in fact a guesthouse placed in a quiet street. The guesthouse is in front of the Mekong river which means splendid views from the balcony. The rooms with their tcorresponding bathroom, have been recently refurbished. The breakfast is O.K. However, the price is excessive; just in the same street is possible to find several guesthouses, even a hotel, with similar quality and lower prices. Obviously, in the rest of the city there are a lot of cheaper accommodations with similar standards.

Accommodating Staff, Good Value”
The staff was very accommodating. I got to LP super early at 5:00a and there werent any rooms available at the time so they contacted their sister hotel and for half the cost for a day ($10 USD) i was able to stay at the other hotel until my actual checkin time. Location was very quiet and away from the loudness but close to walk everywhere. It was directly in front of the mekong so I was able to walk across to see the beautiful sunsets each day. The AC broke my last day there so I used the fan and it was okay. The showers need to be upgraded as it was a shower head inside a bathtub and the water would spill out. The room wasnt fully enclosed from bugs so the first night I got plenty of bug bites. i also wasnt sure if there were bed bugs because i couldnt see them but the linens made me itchy. There wasnt a daily room service. Dont expect a lot from this hotel although It is a nice place to crash while exploring and with a small family

Excellent”
Lovely, traditional Lao guesthouse, a variety of rooms. Nice location, close to river and many sites. I would stay here again. It is a bit noisy on the road in the morning, a bit of a downside, otherwise good.

sometimes noisy in midnight”
This guesthouse faces Mekong river with good view, but riverside is the party area for local young people so sometimes we can enjoy their loud music and joyful voice through the night.

Excellent location and very good room”
This is located on the river-front close to the main area for food and markets. The accommodation was very good value with others near by being up to twice the amount of money. There is much cheaper out of town and much more down market.

Great location, not so great staff”
I was lucky to get a great deal from Agoda. However, my joy came to end as soon as I arrived at the hotel, as the staff could not stop being unpleasant due to the low price I have paid. I had to listed to the receptionist lecturing me that the normal price is much higher!!! Very unpleasant welcome. I booked a room with a bathtub, and was given one with shower only. Had to insist strongly to change. However, the bath could not be enjoyed as: (1) the bath was dirty with old hair, (2) the water heater capacity was so limited that even taking a shower was a challenge, not even mentioning washing hair or filling the bathtub with hot water. The breakfast was low cost, consisting of processed food, package juice, sour fruits, robusta coffee. This hotel has great location, great potential to be worth the 50$ that receptionist lectured I should have paid. However, with the current lack of hospitality and cleanness, and poor breakfast set this place is not worth much more than the 15$.

Great proximity to alms giving ceremony”
I have no idea I've chosen a guesthouse where it just took me less than 3 minutes to the old quarter and sakalline road. This guesthouse is peaceful during night! Close proximity to wats and night market
