Authentic high class Ryokan”

Traditional, fantastic service, beautiful room.

For anyone wanting to experience the way a Ryokan would have been along the Tokaido in the days of the Shogun please stay at Seikoro. The service is magnificent, friendly and speaks English. The room is traditional except for the free wifi and spacious. Having your own Japanese bathroom in your room is a luxury. There is also a public bath too that should be tried. This wonderful haven is not cheap be warned, breakfast for two was over 5000 yen, however the price is worth the experience. Close to train stations, Gion, convenience stores, a coin laundry and wonderful restaurants and sights along the river that Kyoto holds so dear. As a long time traveller and former resident of Japan I can't recommend Seikoro enough for those wanting to capture an era of Japan that most will never see.

Traditional comfortable ryokan in great location”

Experience traditional ryokan rooms but with western bathrooms, quiet street, easy walk to the two main entertainment and dining areas, great in-house dining experience in your room and simple western or japanese breakfasts in room

My partner and I wanted to experience a traditional family run ryokan accommodation but with a few "western" comforts like showers and toilets and Seikoro proved a great balance - the rooms are very large (or ours was), very clean and traditional with woven matt floors and no furniture except for your low coffee/dining table which you effectively sit on teh floor to eat at but with hard backed chairs for support. Items like TV's and phones are conveniently covered to look like screens. On arrival it is shoes off at the front door but slippers are provided, it appears you are allocated a family member to look after you during the stay and she then comes in each night to put your foam mattress covered by a futon down to sleep - we like firm beds anyway so had no problem with the foam mattress - in fact very good sleep as quiet street. In the morning while you shower or go to the public bathhouse in the ryokan (separate for men and women) your attendant comes in and puts the bedding away and sets out breakfast on your dining table. If you want to sit around on a couch the ryokan has a library lounge area for that purpose. You can also order the traditional dinner where once again they come in and serve something like 10 or 12 small courses of delicious food washed down with beer or sake in your room.....all very enjoyable. Outside hotel in easy walk are two nightlife areas with 100's of small restaurants and bar to wander and mingle with the locals. Obviously Kyoto is renowned for its shrines and temples but the guide books will cover off on all of these....suffice to say we had a great stay...

Excellent Ryokan. ”

Excellent Ryokan,Very attentive staff, Relaxing Onsen

We feel that it lived up to its reputation and were very happy with our stay. The traditional Ryokan was very nice and one pleasant surprise was the lovely garden outside, something we have not heard anyone else mention. Perhaps we were staying a little above our pay grade but we simply couldn't afford the cost of breakfast or dinner but I am sure they would have been excellent. My wife and I were a little apprehensive about the Onsen experience but maybe because it was off season we had the seperate ladies and gents Onsens to ourselves. Great experience, especially after trekking around the many wonderful walks that Kyoto has to offer. Never has a relaxing hot bath seemed more appropriate. The location is great, 2 mins from a subway and 10 mins walk to the Gion area. One tip though. Use the buses. By far the best way to get around Kyoto as they are all seemingly directed towards getting tourists around town to the many sights as quickly as possible. The staff were very polite and attentive and Saori who personally attended to us, made us feel very special. The elder make staff were also very helpful and always polite. It was an oddly personal and welcoming experience and one my wife and I will long remember. Thank you to all at Seikoro Ryokan..

Superb services and Quiet surroundings”

Friendly staff, One of the best ryokan in Kyoto, Comfortable stay

It is indeed a good experience for me and fiance as we went to Japan for our pre wedding photoshoot. We stayed a night in Seikoro Ryokan as this will be part of our photoshoot at Seikoro. It is a fabulous ryokan we've ever stayed with its quiet surrounding and friendly staff. Even though they wouldn't speak fluent English yet they are willing to give the best and being an attentive staff to serve us. We love this ryokan and Kyoto! Definitely we will be back again. Happy trip~

Wonderful”

We had a wonderful experience. The Seikoro Ryokan had great facilities and a classic ryokan experience. It is a short walk from the older part of the city and a bit of a longer walk to the more modern downtown. The staff was very attentive and for reference they exchanged USD for Yen at the best rate we received in Japan. Their kaiseki dinner was delicious and it should be noted that this is a particular experience to be enjoyed in Kyoto.

Traditional Japanese Style Hotel”

Best Services and People are nice

i've stayed in seikoro ryokan for 2 nights. the room size is ok. they served us with some traditional japanese sweets/cakes with green tea for both nights. they are willing to teach you how to go to some famous sight seeing point with simple english. we feel very comfortable to stay there and we are willing to visit this hotel again next time. we have searched the route (from kyoto station to hotel) from the google map (japan) so it is quite simple for us to find the location of the hotel.

Exceptional”

The staff here embodies the best of Japanese service. We had three meals here (a kaiseki dinner, a shabu shabu dinner, and breakfast) and each was miles above the meals we had outside the ryokan (which were not slouches by any means, either). We happened to be staying here when Typhoon Jebi passed through, and the building lost power. At checkout, they offered us a 50% cash refund on that night (during which they had managed to serve us one of those fabulous meals), which was totally unsolicited. I will stay at Seikoro every time I visit Kyoto, no question.

Traditional Ryokan in the City”

Traditional Ryokan Experience at Modern Hotel Price

from what i saw this seemed to be a family-owned and operated ryokan which worked for the best since you know that the place would be really cared for. vicintiy is very good as it is located in the city so it is not too far to go around. the subway station is a short walk from the hotel and so are several bus stops where you can ride buses to almost any sightseeing place in kyoto. the staff are very nice and pampering ryokan-style is to be expected. when we left, the entire staff actually went out of the front gate to bid us farewell and did not stop bowing until we were out of sight at the end of the street! the food: you should try having kaiseki at the hotel at least once as the experience is totally great and the food would be totally awesome. the rooms: are to be expected, clean tatami-type rooms. we went in early november so it was already cold but not cold enough so we didn't need to use the heater provided. the onsen: nothing much to write about as it is not one of those outdoor type onsens with great view. it's basically an indoor steam bath good for maybe 3 or 4 guys. male and female onsens are separate.

Our stay at Seikoro was delightful. The pictures do not do justice to the beauty of the ryokan. Once inside it is as if you are the only guest and the staff is focused on making your stay special. They were very gracious and sincere. Our hostess was very attentive while respecting our privacy. She gave introduced us to the ins and outs of a ryokan while making us feel welcome. The public bath was a highlight. We enjoyed the multicourse meals served in our room for the full experience. Highly recommend doing so - it is worth doing just for the eye appeal. The room included a sitting area with western chairs making a comfortable area to relax, sit, drink tea and enjoy the garden. Wonderful experience.

Staff, Rooms, Decor

Our stay at the Seikoro Ryokan was very pleasant. From the moment we arrived, until the moment we left our needs were attended to in a superb and timely fashion. It is also relativly reasonably priced for a luxury Ryokan eperience. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone who wants to experience a taste of old world Japan.

Fantastic experience”

Awesome service, good food, spacious room with private bath, located close to subway station

it was our first time to experience staying in a ryokan, and we couldn't have been recommended a better one. it is conveniently located close to the kiyomizu-gojo station, and about 20 minutes' walk to gion (where it's nice to take evening walks and see if you have the chance to see a geisha or two walking around). the room was spacious, and came with its own private bath. separate public baths for males and females were also available. the service provided at the ryokan was impeccable, and the kaiseki (dinner) served in our room at the ryokan (additional charges) was itself a culinary experience. if not for the fact that there were so many pretty sights to see in kyoto, we would have been very happy to stay in all day.

Unique, authentic, traditional Japanese experience”

The design, staff and access to garden.

My partner and I were desperate to try a Japanese ryokan. We could not be happier when we arrived. The entrance is beautiful surrounded by trees and traditional style. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive through out our stay. The rooms were prepared for your return in the evening with hot tea and the futons styled beds. It was a unique experience and I would absolutely recommend this ryokan. You are 3 mins walk away from the local subway which is close commute to the Fushimi Inari Shrine, a must-see for Kyoto travellers.

Great place, great staff, only minor issues.”

The place is gorgeous and the staff are fantastic and willing to help any way they can. I'm actually not used to such attention and service and it was a nice change of pace. Location is right there in the river and is located near quite a few tourist spots and a quick taxi from Kyoto station. Only minor issue was with the tub/shower in our deluxe room. Water took a very long time to heat up and took so long to fill the tub that we didn't use it. They have a public bath downstairs so I was still able to soak. We didn't have the dinner but the breakfast was very good and well presented. We had both the Western style and Japanese style and they were exquisite. The price was pushing my ryokan budget but it really felt like being in a movie with the room design and helpful staff. Would do it again.

Incredible service! So friendly and warm!

We looked at loads of good ryokans to stay at and this one seemed to fit the bill, so we booked. It completely surpassed our expectations, it was amazing. This is the completely best way to see Kyoto and enjoy a stay there. The level of attention to detail and service, brilliant. The staff were wonderful and very helpful. We will return to Kyoto hopefully next year and we will stay here again. I highly recommend this place

Best Ryokan Experience with great staff”

Love the staff. They are very helpful with instructions and very accommodating.

if you are looking for a traditional jap experience this is the place to be. by the time you get into the inn they give u slippers and the whole staff escort you to your room. they welcome you with a tea and a custard cake and we thought it's really neat. make sure you sign up for their traditional breakfast as well. they are really good and they serve them in your room. this inn/ryokan is about 10 mins walk to gion district and ponchoto where you see really nice restos and geisha's at night. this is a 2 min walk to the train station and about 3 mins to bus stops. very convenient to get by just make sure you get a map from them or the concierge. this will be 10mins to kyoto station by taxi.
