In 2023, after the COVID-19 pandemic, I visited Korea for the first time in a while and liked it so much that I used it again. The nearest station is Tongmyo, but it is also within walking distance from Dongdaemun on Line 1. Since it is close to a bustling area, there are lots of 24-hour restaurants and convenience stores. The location is excellent, but some might feel uncomfortable sharing items that are in the kitchen, as there are no refrigerators in the rooms. The amenities provided include body soap, shampoo, and towels, but there are no toothbrushes or toothpaste. There is a Daiso nearby where you can procure those. You should basically assume that there are no staff present. Self-check-in sounds nice, but your room's card key is simply kept in a shoe rack. So, you can check in at any time. It seems there is someone available around noon to mid-afternoon to make up the rooms and prepare for self-check-in. If you meet them, they might be flexible with requests. However, they do not speak any Japanese at all. Personally, I appreciated having a washing machine available for free laundry. Since I tend to sweat, it was a significant help. You need to provide your own detergent, though. If you are somewhat accustomed to traveling to Korea, I think you can have a reasonably comfortable stay, but I cannot recommend it to those who have only stayed in proper hotels. Before the pandemic, a lot of Chinese tourists flocked to Korea, and all the cheap hotels got renovated and became expensive. It feels miraculous that accommodations with showers in private rooms exist at this price on the 2nd or 3rd floor and close to the station. It is always fully booked, and it is difficult to reserve unless done well in advance. Though the bustling area is close by, the Dongdaemun region is also known for having slum-like areas, making the nighttime security quite poor. A Korean taxi driver acquaintance mentioned that his friends' windshield was broken when they went to this area at night, so he does not want to go there. I have seen young Japanese women groups staying, but please be fully aware that it is such a place and be prepared to protect yourself. The nearby stores mostly close around 7 PM, leaving the streets quite desolate.
